We are planning to go to Kings Dominion over Memorial Day weekend. I have looked at prices and they have an option now where you can prepay for lunch. Has anyone had this last year or is this totally new? If you have had it, was it any good?

Here is the description from their website:
The warm weather has returned to Virginia and what better way to celebrate than with a Picnic in the Park? Spend the day riding your favorite rides and dining with an all-you-can-eat buffet in the park’s picnic pavilion. Enjoy a tasty menu of fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, soft drinks, iced tea and ice cream treats 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm. (Picnic tickets are required for entry into the Picnic Grove.)

Choose the date you would like to visit, purchase, and print your ticket out at home - it’s that easy! Space is limited, so reserve your date early! Picnic in the Park tickets are not available at the front gate – all purchases must be made in advance. Sorry, no rain checks or refunds are available for Picnic in the Park tickets.

This sounds like something new they are trying. To be honest, I had something like this a few years ago at Busch gardens and it wasn't that good. Why not just pack some pb&jelly sandwiches, chips and drinks and picnic in the parking lot and then use the money you saved to buy popcorn or ice cream for later on?

One year we packed our own lunch for 4th of July at BG. Mom brought a fluffy blanket and we sat on the ground right there at the car. tasted better than eating in the park. Of course that was before the Smokehouse was built with that yummy chicken.

This must be something new this year, I have had season passes for many years and I have never heard of this. I will say that over the years I have been to picnic lunches such as this as part of a corporate event and I must admit that the food wasn't that great- I would say "School lunch" quality.

You could save yourself some money by taking a picnic. The picnic area is right outside the gate and parking is really not too far to go back and get something from your car. If you really must eat in the park then you could get Chick-filet. They have that over in the Kiddie area- just keep in mind that the prices are double what you would pay at your local Chick-filet

Thanks soo much for the replies. I haven't been to Kings Dominion in years (really want to go to Disney this year but out of the question)

Actually, this is not a new deal. I have had the season passes for the past few years and it has been offered at least all of last year. I believe you get to eat in the area where they do catered events. I haven't tried it out though. I thought about getting this last year, but decided to pass. I usually just eat at the Chick fil A onsite and grab some starucks while I am there. Have fun.

I did this last year and it wasn't too bad.... The food they listed is all that they have so if you don't like it then you're out of luck.

I haven't been to KD in years but when we were teens, we'd walk over to 7-11 for a cheap lunch. It's not a long walk so a picnic in your car shouldn't be too bad.

I don't know if it's new or not, but the company my DH works for (Northrop Grumman) has their summer picnic there every year and if KD is doing the catering..the food will be gross. Hot dogs not too bad, burgers...forget about it.
