Sorry, I meant that from what we could see it was only connected at that one spot. So maybe they just didn't connect the rest of the supports. We thought that was strange because you would think they would connect it to the supports first at every support. We couldn't figure out why they are so much taller than the walkway too.

it's a very clever design.
in this photo you can see how the bracket has been installed on the third column to the right of the the CR and is just waiting for the next section of the walkway frame to be attached

The serpentine design is quite interesting, I am sure there is some theme thing to go with it. It is a great way to reduce the “tunnel” effect, which can be quite disconcerting to some people. I have been trying to figure out the extra height to the pillars also, I am guessing this is also some “theme thing”.

Too funny, I also just got back and took a few pictures from the Wilderness Lodge ferry on our way to the Grand Floridian via the monorail at the Contemporary. I didn't take quite as many pics but have some other angles and will post later.

Am I the only one who won't ever walk across that bridge? I'd have to crawl across it or be led with my eyes closed. My DH said, "It will be enclosed." Well, not enough for me!

I was just thinking the exact same thing!! Good to know I'm not alone...

You aren't the only one...I'm wondering about my mom. We may have to go to the first floor and THEN across.

Thats so funny! It would never have even occured to me that some people wouldn't like it...why, you ask? Cuz up in Minnesota we are always walking through our skyways and I barely even notice them. Granted this one is longer and higher than most but I love the curve design. So funny what one is used to...just an observation.
But now I am wondering, don't they have skyways in IL and PA?

We DO have some skyways here. My mom has ALWAYS been afraid of heights. (But she's from out in the country.) I have no problem with it, but sometimes I forget SHE has a problem...as is evident the day I put us all in the front car of the Monorail. She closed her eyes in some places.

I love the curved design also, it breaks up the "monotony". I was thinking they'd put something above the walkway, like glass, or the name of the tower or something. And the appearance that the walkway is detached? They'll probably put concrete there on the outside and when it's all done, it will look like one piece.

Thank you for the pictures. It looks like the progress is moving forward. I would like to see how and if they "theme" that bridge, because it looks like it's going to be a long walk. I think I read somewhere there was going to be a moving walkway? (like at the airports).

I'm not sure how they could have moving walkways if the bridge is curved. They'd have to have several in a zig-zag fashion, and I'd think they'd be quite narrow, judging by the pictures.

And...why do the support posts look so high? Is there going to be a big dome over the top, or a second walkway? It just looks odd to me. They look like four miniature Washington Monuments to me.

Perhaps it will have the look of a suspension bridge?
I like that it is away from the main resort, adds a sense of myserty for the uninformed

Nope, not as many skyways here....tunnels in the Loop instead. But skyways don't bother me. As you said, they're shorter and nearer to the ground. It's sort of like the difference between the bridges over the Mississippi in the Twin Cities (we lived there for four years) and Mackinac Bridge.

But I do think the serpentine design is quite pretty.

There will be cables from the top of the concrete towers to brackets on the side of the bridge, similar to a cable stayed bridge. There are currently braces underneath the bridge sections that have been mounted already to prevent them from buckling until the cables can be attached. Floor 13(14?) is complete and they are starting on floor 14(15). If spiceycats plan which show 16 floors are correct, we should be topping off by the end of the month.
