Kingdom Tower becoming Bay Lake Tower

I can see why they named it BLT, it's all part of Disney's long-term marketing strategy.

Mark my words, a few months from now, or whenever this thing goes on sale, here's what will happen...

You'll pickup the phone, call your Guide to buy in... "I'd like 160 points of BLT".

And your Guide will ask, " Would you like FRIES with that?"

Brilliant. :worship:

Another possibility...information suggests that Disney will eventually wreck the South Garden Wing and build a second DVC tower. If that happens, they need some method of distinguishing the two buildings other than "the one on the right" vs. "the one on the left."

Sounds plausible to me...

Another issue that crossed my mind was the rumor that the Tower itself may be mixed use - not DVC exclusive. If that is the case and there are Contemporary hotel rooms mixed in with DVC units, they really couldn't include "Villas" in the name, could they?

There are no hotel rooms in the building - it's all "villas" - i.e. units designed like timeshare units.

By the way, I feel like I'm talking to a celebrity here!! :worship:

Don't worry--I won't let it go to my head. :)

If they worried about such things, do you think they would have ever creased All Star Sports :)

:rotfl: Good point!

Upon further review ( ;) ), I'm going with the building identification theory. Just as the two buildings at AKL have unique names, Disney wants to make sure that the two (or three) Contemporary buildings are uniquely identified to eliminate ambiguity over where guests are staying. I suppose they could have gone with something like "North Villa Tower" but that's a little :bored:

Personally I liked "Kingdom Tower." But I think "Bay Lake Tower" still has a Disney feel to it. It's a little more bland but doesn't carry the negative images many seemed to link to the "KT" name.

Question for everyone. Let's say BLT goes on sale in July which is, what the rumors are pointing to, will owners get to use their points for the first year for other properties or will they have to wait until BLT opens for business next year?

Members cannot use their ownership in a given resort until that location is ready for occupancy. In fact, even if DVC begins to sell points in 2008, the "first year" you refer to should be 2009.

All signs point toward it opening in late 2009. If so, they MIGHT be able to issue some points with 2008 Use Years for UY months that are late in the year--perhaps October and December. Other than that the first points owners will receive will be 2009 points.

That said, DVC could bundle "Developer's Points" with the sale to give owners something they can use immediately. That's what they are doing now for AKV. The points being sold are deeded to the Kidani Village building which will not open for about a year. Rather than just making owners wait that long to use their DVC purchase, Disney is supplying a set of points which can be used immediately at Saratoga Springs.

yea but the first documents say 2010 - so opening might be earlier in 2009 - but it might 2010.

oh really wish, that DVC or Disney would announce this thing....

even if I can't buy now - really want to make sure it is DVC! do you know how disappointed I (and a few others here) will be if they are for the CR and not DVC....

wanted it to be DVC - a DVC on the monrail - my dream come true!

Good info, it would seem logical to offer some type of developer points to get folks like me in to the park to spend money.

But where would Disney get the developer points? Right now, they are mostly coming from built but unsold SSR units. Those will all be sold soon. Disney has been actively preselling Kidani - will they end up with built but unsold units there?

no proof this is what will happen - but

with II exchanges I get another week. now most Orlando timeshares don't have this - but DVC might.

DVC might be kepting those weeks to use for CR.

now we can't kept them for more than a year. but not certain how the corporate contracts works.

maybe Dean or someone who knows how the II corporate contracts works can say.

this WILL NOT be for the DVC units (like developer points) but for other places that II has.

plus developer points can't be used at DVC villa can they - I though it was only for the WDW resorts, disney cruise and things like that.

of course the rules have probably changed. Maybe DVC has enough in ROFR that this is where the points will come from.

Thank heavens they're changing the name! I REALLY didn't like Kingdom Tower. BLT is much better - it does have a yummy ring to it.

I grabbed these last week from the monorail.

BTW - I like Disney's Bay Lake Villas pretty well.

The tower thing doesn't seem to suit it IMO, and I hated the Kingdom part. I don't plan on buying there but I do think it will be cool when finished. Also, of course the girl that was hostess at the AKV models at SSR last week when we visted to show my mom was clueless when I mentioned DVC and Contemporary in the same sentence  !

Hmmmmm, wonder how much "Lettuce" it will take for that BLT.
