Sorry, my search function must be out to lunch...

My sister bought this book for my 8 yr old DD. I have no doubt that she could read the book, I was just concerned as I flipped through it and seems like they tell you the characters are not real.
So, DD still believes...should I put the book away for a while?

I plan to read it as soon as I finish the book I am reading now, just wanted to know incase she wants to start it soon.

Actualy, they tell you the characters are VERY real! Malificient is a real live villian trying to take over the MK under the orders of the Overtakers (I think that's what they were called). She atcualy almost kills one of the kids and is bent on doing them all in. She's not the Big Boss, but like second or third in command. The dolls on IASW come to life and attack the kids in the story, the pirates from POC come out chasing the kids....all very scary to a little one so I would check how high your DD's fright factor is before I let her read it. It does talk about the employee entrances and costumes etc....I don't know. I know it's written for kids, but to me it makes WDW seem a little too scary. I loved the books, but then I'm 40, not 10 :rotfl: Maybe you should read it first and see what you think. I'd hate to have it ruin the magic for her and have her wind up terrified of everything there.

I totally agree with the PP. Read it or listen to it first. I'd be very hesitant to give that book to an 8 year old that still believes.

(Children's librarian here.)

Give her Carol Marsh's Mystery at Disneyworld instead. It's not my favorite book, but its written for a younger audience and the setting is WDW.

Thanks guys! I do not want to spoil her magic, b/c at 8 I do not know how long it will stay! (although this is the kid who wants to be Santa Claus when she grows up)
I am excited to read the book now!!

Honestly, the book is very dark at points, like the PP said. I mean Mal is trying to kill these kids. I'd be hard pressed to give it to any 8 year old. I believe my review sources say 10 and up at the least, maybe even 12.

They are VERY good books though. Every Disney fan should read them. And you're lucky that you aren't like me and read the first one the day it came out and then had to wait 5 YEARS for the next one! The next book better not take that long!

I did that too!!! They better not wait so long for the next one...I'm already pacing! Can't wait :coffee:

He says it took so long because he did so much in-depth research. :p

I really didn't enjoy the second as much as the first, probably because I prefer MK over AK, but I think DS and EPCOT would be really cool.

My dd11 has now found the perfect excuse to NOT ride IASW anymore. :rotfl2:

This is CruiserMom's daughter...

I'm a little older then your dd but I still love the books. She might not like it because they have a couple parts in the books with the costumes and cast members. In Kingdom Keepers 2 they talk about how the Tinkerbell who flies out over MK during the fireworks isn't real. And they do have Mal trying to kill the kids and the IASW dolls biting and attacking the kids. I would suggest waiting another year or two.princess:

I had seen these books for a long time but it wasn't until this last trip to WDW that I finally picked them up. I agree that it might not be right for an 8 year old who still believes in the magic. I also agree that you might want to read it first.

Also for those wondering when book 3 is due, on Ridley's website is says September 2009. I know 7 months stinks but better than a year or so. Also wanted to add that if you check out the blog on his website, he is asking for input on KK4.
