Has anyone here gone to see it?? Our kids are off from school for 3 days the first week of Nov (Jersey week).
We just decided tonight we will take one of those days to go into the city to see the exhibit.
I was wondering about how long it takes to see it, and anything not to be missed. thanks

If it is the same exhibit that was in San Francisco a year ago at the deYoung Museum, then IMO it absolutely is worth the visit. DD and I went and it took us almost 4 hours to see the whole exhibit to our satisfaction. It was amazing

I'm thinking of taking my kids too. There is a discount ticket price on groupon for $22 and it includes a 3D movie.

Nevermind, I just went to buy tix and the deal is closed

Costco had discount tickets over the summer. I will go back this week and see if they still have them.

I saw King Tut when I was a child and it was in NY. I am so excited to be able to take my kids

I saw it as a elementary school student in NY, and ds12 went last year. According to some parents I know who went on the trip, it was PACKED with field trips, and the kids didn't get to see much. The parents felt very sorry for the individuals who were there to see the exhibit, not on field trips. That week should be less crowded, with the NJ kids out of school.

Have to say I took DS 8 to it last month (NY) we were really looking forward to it but were sadly disappointed. DS said it was fun but boring and he is a big fan of everything ancient (Greek, Roman, Egyptian) We did the 3d film and then the exhibit. Cost me $75 for the 2 of us and IMHO was not worth it.

In the 3D film all they talk about is Ramesses The Great. Then you move on to the exhibit which is basically a bunch of small artifacts and stuff to read. Seems Tut was a nobody and was king for @10 yrs then died suddenly(he didn't even have his own tomb, they buried him in someone else.

The kicker for me was I looking forward to seeing King Tut....but he is not there just a replica. Seems Tut never left Egypt and never will :(

we almost did this last Friday, but got tickets to a show instead. Having read this, I don't feel so bad about missing it. It did seem like an awful lot of money for this - and what you wrote shows it isn't really worth it. My DD is interested in this, but we have already seen mummies and sarcophagi at the Smithsonian for free!.:)

Wow, that sounds like its on par with Natural History Museum where I grew up. It doesn't have a King Tut replica but it has real mummies on display. Maybe I'll take my kids there the next time we are visiting, its free :)

I agree completely. Took DD14 over the summer. She had to prepare a Powerpoint presentation for school on the Ancient Egyptians and, while we got a lot of information, I wasn't impressed. The thing that bothered me was you're not allowed to take pictures. Now I understand how it can be distracting if everyone is taking pictures of the artifacts, but I wanted to take pictures of the signs. Instead we spent the entire time handwriting all the signs they had so we had information to review when we got home. And it was basically all small artifacts. I paid full price and was very disappointed.
