Argh, my post got eaten! Here's the TR so far...
Alex cried his eyes out leaving his girlfriend. She cried her eyes out in the carpark waving and wearing his seat of earmuffs. We got out fine, no drama. Had the entire first half of the plane to ourselves and were treated like VIPS for some reason.
Spent four or so hours in Koru Club. OMG you have to do it if going thru AKL. It's $55 per head entry if not members or on another airline according to DH. Fab food, prem wine and beer, kids area, barrista service and the best shower rooms in the known universe. I'd have lived in there.
One son really struggled to get comfortable to sleep (why I don't know, try being my size in economy child!). Finally he fell asleep all over me, his seat and his brothers seat. I slept 90 mins as a result and chucked up in the loo due to extreme fatigue (I'd not slept more than four hours the three nights before and hit the wall big time). The kids were all over the place while asleep, so I had to keep a constant eye on them and move them around lest they fall off the chairs. So we are looking at the possibilty of upgrading to Sky Couch for the kids - it's $900 extra per couch. Problem is you pay it then look for availabilty. Need DH on the case there.
Got a free upgrade on the rental.

Toyota Highlander and I feel safe. No way I'm driving here tho', leave that to DH.
Lunch at 4pm at Johnny Rockets. No pics, just ate. Okay food but great milkshakes. Kids were more interested in the free colouring pages. Went to Trader Joes and got some provisions and OMG the salads. Stuff eating anything else we'll eat those in the carpark every day!
Holding pen hotel has huge single beds for the kids but they've flaked out so much I don't think there's much chance of them falling out tonight. Good thing if they don't as the beds are so high the kids were having to do an Edmond Hillary to get on them.
Tomorrow off to Carlsbad. Kids were disapointed
LegoLand and
Disneyland were not convientantly placed at LAX on arrival.
