FWIW, the TM bartender I was talking to at Duff's had heard Kong might "pick up" the vehicles, which would be very cool. And, yes, it's a TM rumor which I'd hesitated to put in the TR for that reason. But it jives with your great post, so I thought I'd throw it out there.......
