Corn in the fields,
listen to the rice when the wind blows 'cross the water,
King Harvest has surely come.

Scarecrow and a yellow moon,
and pretty soon a carnival on the edge of town,
King Harvest has surely come.

Okay, so I only have tomatoes and pole beans...lol...but I'm enjoying them, and all the great Fall produce that grows here in Foodland Ontario.

What's made it from the garden to the table, at your house? :)

Nothing...I grow nothing, but we really enjoy apples this time of year from the farmer's market up the street.:D

That counts Lisa, they came from somebody's garden/orchard! :)

You have a farmers market on your street? Oh, I'd love that!! :)

Vanessa, those are some of the lyrics written by Robbie Robertson of The Band, for the song of the same name. You would probably recognize it if you heard it. :)

I've managed to bring tomatoes from my neighbours' garden and my brother's garden to our table but would really like to try a few patio tomatoes next year.;)

Kim the beans sound really good too!:)

Just as a footnote Kim, Robbie is Guy's cousin!:)

....see I do lurk around here:p ;)

Sammi!!! :) It's great to see you here! :)

Robbie Robertson is Guy's cousin!!! That is SO cool!! :) He's amazingly talented. One of our favourites is Robbie Robertson & The Red Road Ensemble ~Music for The Native Americans~ CD. We love it!!

Er...um...you wouldn't happen to have a spare autograph or two lying around the house, would you? ;) :)

Sammi, if you have any partying with The Band stories you'd like to share, I'm a good listener! :teeth: ;) :)

LOL Kim no we don't even have an autograph from Robbie!;)
Here's a couple of links you might like to read about him....... you'll read about the "Mykes" particularily Herb in these articles that's Guy's father and all of his uncles. He taught Robbie to play the guitar many many years ago. My sweet DH is also a guitar player. ;)

Glad you enjoy his music as he really has a talent especially his native stuff.:)

Fruits & Veggies...Garden delights--not our garden, but there's a few farmer's markets & stands nearby. :)

Granny Smith & Gala apples

Last nite:
Roasted red peppers
Mixed green salad

Tonight's dinner:
Broccoli & macaroni w/sundried tomatoes & pine nuts.

Snowwark: What's a "pole bean"? Are they like string beans or fava beans?

An aside...this thread just brought back a memory:

As a kid my Aunt Jo in Brooklyn, NY had my cousin & me pick the dandelions from her lawn as part of dinner. I thought it was the strangest thing. Later, when my DMom came I told her that my Aunt Jo was making us eat the weeds out of her lawn. My DMom just laughed...she never served dandelions, but she said it was very common.

Anyone else ever do/here of that?

I guess if we count the dandelions, then I can pick dinner from my own garden, too. LOL :p

Thank you for the cool links, Cindy! :) I'm going to show them to DH also, he'll be very interested! :)

So, DH serenades you does he? Lucky Bud! ;)

N4D (you don't mind if I call you that, do you? :)), pole beans and bush beans (aka Snap beans), can be grown as a bush or vinelike, often supported with a tripod structure.

Some people find bush beans to be more tender, but pole beans more flavourful. Many people plant both kinds, with bush beans generally harvested first. Pole beans will often produce right up until the first frost.

I don't know much about Fava beans (aka Broad beans), except that I think they are actually related to the pea family. I do know that Hannibal Lector likes them with a little chianti.... ;)

Lots of people enjoy dandelion greens! They're used in making tea, wine, and other dishes. Here's a recipe for you to try out....lol...:)

Garlic parsley dandelion greens recipe

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:

4 tbsp. butter

4 tbsp. fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 minced garlic

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. black pepper

1 lb. dandelion greens, soaked in salted water, washed and shredded

1 tbsp. pimientos, chopped

METHOD:

Melt butter in a pan. Add parsley, garlic, salt and black pepper. Fry gently for 3 minutes.

Add pimientos. Cook for 4 minutes.

Add dandelion greens and simmer gently for 5 minutes until tender. Serve hot as a side dish to pork or chicken.

N4D is fine. I'm also called Nuts. They're all OK. I suppose I should've thought my username out a bit more.

Oh...I've heard of snap beans & fava beans. Thanks for all the info. WOW, one thing about the F&G bd, you not only get your questions answered, you get trivia, diagrams, photos, & recipes. LOL. Pretty cool. :)

I think I'm getting addicted to the F&G bd. LOL :)

I think I've heard of Dandelion Soup.

Speaking of apples again...
This time of year, one of my favorite snacks is apples and colby longhorn cheese...together.

A bite (or slice) of apple, and a bite of the cheese, together...yum, yum.

Lisa, that's like apple pie with cheese. :) When we have apple pie, my Father ALWAYS say..."Apple pie without cheese, is like a kiss without a squeeze"......he ALWAYS says that! :)
