King crab legs are gone from Coral Reef?

When I was younger....muuuuuuuuuuuuuch younger, my family always used to go to Disney on "the plan." We were given 3 table service meals/day/person. Each of those meals included an app, entree, and dessert. Now you can't honestly tell me that the now much modified and stripped down version of the Disney Dining Plan is the cause of the menu issues. It in no way compares to the amount of food we used to get. Now I am talking about 15-20 years ago, but we ate at places like V&A, Top of the World (Now CG), King Stefans Banquet Hall (Now Cindy's), and the Empress Lily, and there was no 2 credits for 1 meal shennanogens!

It's all about Disney trying to streamline and make a quick buck...very sad!:sad2:

i wish they would add certain items that have a supplemental charge. For example a item is on the menu for everyone to order, non-DDP people pay the list prince, DDP people pay a $x.xx supplement. This is the way prix fix menus work, see VandA for example.

I have to add that the crab leg dinner, as someone else has already mentioned, was pretty sad anyway so you are really not missing much. I don't believe they were "king" crab legs either, but instead those little "stringy" crab legs (if they were king crab they were extremely poor quality) with hardly any meat!

:sad2: :sad1:

I was only going for the crab legs and baileys jack daniels mousse. Any other recommendation on what entree to order?

Sorry this post is late, but the Blackened Catfish is amazing!

This stinks.... First I hear that they are doing away with Filets... no biggie there since I don't eat filets, prefer strip.... but it got me wondering if its filets or all steak.... so kept searching... also heard buffets are doing away with the prime rib.... still not a disappointment to me but my Mom was looking forward to having that.... the same rumor says they are replacing the pr with strip so that sounds promising (at least a little) to me.... now.... I was truly debating whether to get the crab legs (which were not yet on the menu on our previous trip last Aug.) or having the NY Strip again (as it was my favorite dinner for our whole trip last year)... I guess the decision is out of my hands now.

Btw if it wasn't for the DDP and being able to prepay for our food, we would be only be eating food we brought with us our entire trip.... pb&j for 5 days strait... yummy (not)! We can barely afford to go at all and if we had to pay oop for our food we could NOT do it!

So, I'll ask...what are the 3 non Disney owned restaurants you eat at? As well as what 2 Disney owned do you eat at?

1) We prefer
. . . fine food
. . . excellent service
. . . innovative dishes with flair
. . . overall great value
2) I recommend
. . . Bistro de Paris (Epcot, France, upstairs)
. . . Victoria & Albert's (Grand Floridian Resort)
. . . Citrico's (Grand Floridian Resort)
. . . Todd English Blue Zoo (Dolphin Resort)
. . . Shula's Steakhouse (Dolphin Resort)

PS - For great crab legs, take a cab to Joe's Crab House in Celebration, about 2-miles away.

Thanks for that. Been wanting to try Bistro and Shula's. May be willing to give Citrico's a try as well. But that Joe's Crab House, is not to be confused w/Joe's Crab Shack??? Thanks.

1) This gets a little tricky.
2) Joe's Crab Shack was owned by Landry's.
3) It was sold this year by the Landry chain.
4) The people at Joe's in Celebration said they are becoming Joe's Crab House.
5) I need to ask Lamont Cranston if the name is changing.

The Dolphin has the two best restaurants on the property, IMO.

Very pricey, though. But hey, it's vacation.

There's a great review of bluezoo on Deb's site.

Sorry. Back to topic....

OK, you're right, that is tricky. I've always wanted to try Joe's Crab Shack anyway. So, Thanks. :wizard:

I contacted the Coral Reef about the crab legs.
This was their response.

"Roberta,

The crab legs have been removed form the menu due some quality issues with the product.

We do not have a date for when we will start using them again or if we will."

. . . The crab legs have been removed form the menu due some quality issues with the product . . .

1) Sure.
2) Good cover story.
3) If that were true, how many off-site eateries would be out of business?
4) In fact, why not remove them from other WDW eateries if quality is bad?
5) The real truth is that they are becoming more expensive.
6) The restaurant managers are responsible for Profit & Loss of the eatery.
7) With the fixed DDP reimbursement, the costs have to be cut somewhere.
8) Is the quality the same reason for restaurants eliminating steaks?

NOTE: Unfortunately another story. Just like the one we tell guests when their key cards mag strip gets scrambled and don't work. Hey, it isn't WDW's fault, you kept the key card next to {pick one: cell phone, other credit cards, magnets, left hand, right hand, quartz battery watch, in your back pocket, in your side pocket, in your wife's purse}.

Ok so don't offer King Crab legs, but at least offer crab legs... the local chinese buffet can give you unlimited crab legs for $8.99
