we do a lot of business with Louisiana. we've been getting cake from our business contacts almost every day.

so far I haven't found the baby. ;)

each year. A Diser turned me on to one of them a couple of years ago! They are fun!

You are going to share aren't you?:D I know it's crazy down there, but I would love to go to Mardi Gras:D I was looking at this fun site www.mardigrasday.com :jester: :jester: :jester:

I've never been to the real deal, but we did Mardi Gras at Universal/IOA two years ago. it was wonderful!

Was there breast flashing there:eek: :jester:  :jester:

it's a sanitized Mardi Gras at Universal. parades, beads, coins, jazz, but nothing rowdy or raunchy. at least, not ant any event where kids were welcome. which pretty much covers all the outdoor events.

We got one in an office I worked in a few years ago and I was lucky enough to get the baby! :teeth: I think the King Cake is a really fun tradition.

we've gotten quite a variety of cakes. some that have cinnamon, some that have nuts, some with fruit inside. all have sugary icing and/or in purple, green and yellow tones. but I don't think we got one with cream cheese filling. maybe tomorrow.

I saw one in our grocery store the other day. Usually don't see them much in Oklahoma.

Love King Cakes!! :) :) :)

Not this year, but several I've been down in Lousiana this time of year and always get a King Cake or two. . . :) :) :)

I'd like King Cakes if it weren't for all the purple, gold and green sugar sprinkled on top and too much frosting. A light drizzle of icing on top of a tasty filled King Cake could be very good.

But how can you have a King Cake without all the sugar sprinkled on top?

King cakes are fun. We have had a couple up here in my office.

5 years ago, and had NO Idea what it was! I had NO idea what a KING Cake was, and WHY there was a tiny plastic baby in it. But, it tasted real good, and than I found out what it all symbolizes!;) Here in Miami, I don't think I will find a King Cake, maybe Key Lime pie, but NO King Cake!

I got a king cake one year for my birthday and we worked on finding the baby and there was none in there. It was a cute cake though :)

Could someone please explain to this Northerner DIS family member what a King Cake is?

It's a cake (usually ring-shaped) that is served between Epiphany and Shrove Tuesday. They are sometimes filled with cream cheese and/or fruit. Sugar sprinkles on top are usually gold, green and purple. There is usually a plastic baby inside or sometimes a bean. Whoever gets that piece has to provide the king's cake for next year's Mardi Gras.

Have I forgotten anything?

Thank you for the insight into King Cakes and the link - it's a fascinating tradition and something that I knew nothing about! :)
