Kindle Touch 3G or Kindle Keyboard 3G

Can someone tell me what the main difference would be between these two? Im trying to decide on a Kindle for dd for Christmas and Im not sure if there is a big difference. Will the prices come down on Black Friday...or should I just order one now?

The new ones aren't even releasing until Thanksgiving weekend, so no the price won't come down. If you want one for Christmas I would order a month ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they are sold out long before Christmas.

The Touch is exactly that a touch screen, like an ipod Touch, iPad, iPhone etc. The keyboard has a keyboard where you have to type everything in. For a kid I would do the touch.

You can go onto Amazons website and compare them.

Except that the Kindle Touch is an eink screen, just like a traditional Kindle, and not an LCD backlit screen like any of the Apple products you mentioned.

OP, the 3G service is different as well. On the Kindle Keyboard, the 3G will access the full internet. It's slow but it does work. On the new Touch, the internet itself can only be acessed by wifi. The 3G portion will only connect to the Kindle store and Wikipedia.

Also, for Amazon Prime members, starting tomorrow (November 3) there will be a lending feature from Amazon itself. There is a library of about 5000 books you'll be able to check out for free. Pretty nice if you are not a member of a public library that loans ebooks. For $79 per year, you can have access to the Amazon library and free two day shipping for the year on Amazon purchases as well.

That is one thing I was wondering about the 3G. I thought I read something about there being a difference in the internet access betwen the two. Is the internet access worth it if I get the keyborad Kindle?
At this point...Im not going to be getting a touchby Christmas if I go that route?

I have almost never used the internet access from my Kindle if I am browsing the web. Maybe a couple of times just to see how it worked, but I always travel with either my iPhone or my iPad and both of those have vastly superior internet connections. So I'm not worried about 3G for that use.

What I DO use the 3G for and like having is to access the Kindle Store and my Archives when I am out of wifi range. For example, I was reading by the pool at WDW last year and I finished a book. I knew what I wanted to read next but I had forgotten it was still in my Archives and not on my Home screen. With 3G I could have moved it that minute - instead I had to wait until I was in wifi range.

I'll always get 3G if it is an option but that's because I always want the broadest range of options available to me. If you can preload your Kindle from your Archives before you travel, or you know you will almost always be in a wifi spot and can stand the very minor inconvenience of having to wait if you can't immediately access something, then 3G isn't necessary.

I pre-ordered my Touch so it will be here by Thanksgiving but I'm not sure what the current delivery dates are. if you go ahead and pre-order you can see if it is supposed to come by Christmas or not. You can always cancel the order before it ships if you change your mind.

Yes, but the concept is still the same. One you type on the keyboard, one you touch the screen.

Kindle is not made for internet. Yes you can get the internet on the kindle, but from what I understand it's a pretty cumbersome process. It's not something I would even really factor into my decision.

I don't know what the current shipping date is, but if you even think you want one I'd order asap. When you order it will tell you the estimated shipping day. You can always cancel up until it ships and you have 30 days to return it, no questions asked.
