I am ready to buy one. Just not sure which one. Opinions please! :)

I went with the Kindle about 6 months ago. Love it, but all I want is to read books.
DS wanted more. He wanted to be able to copy certain books over and all these other things, not sure what all. He went with the Nook a couple months ago. He wishes it had the keyboard instead of the touch pad thingee, but seems happy with it.
I think there are pros and cons to both and you just need to go with what seems like it will work best for your needs.

I have a Kindle that I love. It was purchased right before the Nook was released. When it's time to replace it :sad1: If I had to replace it tomorrow, I'd get another Kindle. Nothing wrong with the Nook, I just don't think for me that it's better.

There are a lot of threads discussing both ereaders that you use to help you and there are also many online comparisons.

That said, I saw a Kindle refurb on Amazon for $110 the other day. For that price, it would be a no brainer for me.

Neither! Sorry ;)
I have the Ipad instead and am so happy with it. I have Kindle for Ipad app and also the Nook(barnes and noble) app and now one from Borders too. Not to mention the Ibooks app. I wear glasses and was so worried that reading on the Ipad wouldn't be like on an ereader and would hurt my eyes, but it doesn't at all! I can change the font, change the brightness, and change the size of the text, as well as the background color. I love it! The Kindle for Ipad app is the best and I have "one click" purchasing and it is so easy to purchase all my books! When I am not using it as an ereader, I can check my email, listen to my Itunes, look at my pictures on Iphoto, or surf on the DIS like I am now! Yes it is more expensive but with everything else you can do on it, it's worth it.

And I LOVE IT!!!! It's sooooo easy to use. I put off getting one for a while because I just like the feel of a book in my hand. But I'm really enjoying my new Nook. Highly recommend it. :thumbsup2

You can do that on Nook too-not sure about the Kindle but the Nook allows you to email, play music, etc.

I second the Ipad. I bought mine and I love it. You can choose from Apple books, Kindle and B&N and maybe Borders (not sure if the app is there yet, but I think I read something about it?) Plus it does so much more than act as an e-reader.

IPAD ... just got it and LOVE IT!!! IPAD even gives you ONE FREE BOOK to download!!! :thumbsup2

Loving the feedback! Hating that I have to add the Ipad to the mix.:rotfl:
Didnt even think about that! OK so Nook, Kindle or Ipad.

Thanks for helping me make a decision.:thumbsup2

 I have a Sony Reader and I love it. Goodbye stacks of paperbacks under the bed...

Keep in mind the iPad is almost 3 times the cost of either the nook or kindle.

I have a nook and love it ~ I feel it's far superior to the kindle, but that's just personal preference.

Reading on the iPad can cause major eye strain, since it's just like reading on a computer.

For me, I didn't like the look of the keyboard on the kindle. I preferred the sleek look of the nook.

The nook can play music and has a beta browser, as well as being able to side-download library books (though I haven't done that, yet).

So not true! Read my post above. I wear glasses and often get headaches when on the computer too long. Before buying the Ipad I was all set on the Nook, which I think is great. But DH came home with the iPad and when I tried it I was shocked and so happy!! Reading on it causes no eye strain. You control what your screen looks like when you are reading and it's perfect!

Yes it costs more than the ereader, but you are getting a mini laptop, not just an ereader!!

I have a nook, and I love it. All the featured it advertised work beautifully.

For those with a Kindle, can you only read books that you buy online? Can you only buy them from Amazon?

My sister in law is a nun. She is looking to buy an ereader and is trying to decide between a Kindle and a Nook. She was given a visa giftcard last Christmas and hasn't spent it yet. She does not have the budget though to buy ebooks throughout the year.

I love amazon and do tons of shopping there but chose the Nook for myself because of the ability to read ebooks from the library.

I love my Kindle for an e-reader. Already have an iTouch and didn't want another toy. Plus, the Kindle now is only $189.

I have a Kindle and have bought books from a ton of different sources besides Amazon. Many, many of these have been free which is a nice added bonus. The kindleboards have been very helpful in pointing me towards newly free/cheap books or websites where you can download books besides Amazon. There's some really good deals to be found on refurbished kindles right now also, which comes with Amazon's fully warranty.
