We have two Kindles in our household and love them. Amazon's customer service is amazing. One of the Kindles froze and customer service shipped me a new one overnight. In addition, I find the Kindle VERY easy to use. The most recent software update is great.
I do wish that the Kindle was compatible with library books, but that was not enough for me to consider buying a Nook or Sony. We have the Amazon Chase Visa and often get Amazon gift certificates as we accrue points. I often use those gift certificates to pay for my ebook purchases. Plus, I have downloaded a TON of free books.

You can use the touch screen and swipe your finger to turn pages. Works very easily. (this is on the Nook of course)

Thanks for the tip. I tried it and did get it to work although it is inconsistent for me. My husband can get it to work every time. I will keep trying. This feature will probably make it the one that I will buy, although I pretty much had decided that I would buy it since I can get library books.

Thanks for the tip.

For some people, those types of things work only sometimes.
My dad has trouble using the touchpad on microwave. It takes several time for the microwave's buttons to respond to his touch. It doesn't matter if he presses lightly or hard. He has this problem with just about anything that has a touch screen or pad.

So for some, it's not a good idea to use.

I have a Kindle 1st gen and an iPad. I vote for either one. I love my Kindle, love the free books at Amazon but also have no problems reading on the iPad.

I just learned something new in the N vs K debate...

You can return Kindle books with 7 days of purchase. Nook books cannot be returned.

The Nook lend feature only allows you to lend a book once to a person. If they don't read it during the lend period (14 days, I think) you can't lend it them again.

Minor but new to me.

What stops someone from reading it and returning it? I am deciding on a nook or kindle now also..my sis in law has a kindle so we would put them on the same account and share, but I love the idea of borrowing from our library too. Do you think Kindle would ever do that?

Nothing apparently as long as it's within the allowed time. What stuck me is that with B&N if you purchase something by accident or purchase a book twice, it sounds like you're out of luck.

I would think that Kindle has to address the lack of library borrowing. Some day. :lmao:

At some point, I bet they will. But we'll have to get through all the DRM nonsense first, which could take a while. The digital music industry had to go through it, and digital books will do the same thing. Once DRM-free books start hitting the shelves, as it were, everything will open up and get easier.

I love that there are more e-readers out there, because it puts more pressure on the publishers to meet their needs. I know already, just in my every day book buying, if it's not in digital format, I'll move on to something else. Same thing with paying more for the digital copy than a paperback. There's too much selection to bother with this and eventually the publishers will catch on that this is a market economy just like paper books and things will sort themselves out.

Keep in mind the iPad is almost 3 times the cost of either the nook or kindle.

I have a nook and love it ~ I feel it's far superior to the kindle, but that's just personal preference.

Reading on the iPad can cause major eye strain, since it's just like reading on a computer.

For me, I didn't like the look of the keyboard on the kindle. I preferred the sleek look of the nook.

The nook can play music and has a beta browser, as well as being able to side-download library books (though I haven't done that, yet).

My sister has an iPad and she download a free Kindle book the other day to see how it would look and she said she was ok reading it and her eyes didn't strain but she prefers to hold books or ereaders rather than laying them flat and she said after awhile she got tired after holding the iPad upright.

I have a Kindle and I love it.

I never borrowed books from the library, so that's a function I don't need. I LOVE that there is a kindle web board where people share links to free books.

I am currently following a blog whereas the writer is introducing us to new writers every day for three weeks. And you don't need a Kindle to enjoy it, she just is making sure all writers are available ALSO on Kindle.

That blog sounds pretty cool do you have a link to it?

I bought Kindles for my parents recently and they love them. My parents aren't into being apart of libaries. My parents are into a lot of classical literature which can be found free in the ebook format. They also read a lot non-fiction sports and entertainment books which aren't found much in libraries. My parents will usually buy 2-4 books a month and they only buy if the books have majority postive reviews.

I don't know anyone who has a Nook. One of my friends who is in Air Force and lives oversears as a Sony ereader that he received as a gift and he loves it because he doesn't have to worry about having to add to his belongings at his base apartment.

I think that is the thing that all e-readers have the most appeal over. . No need to add another groaning bookshelf to your house.. We moved to our first house last year, and the amount of books in boxes we had was staggering. And backbreaking!

Me too! I've had mine for 2 weeks now and I'm a big fan of it. So easy.

And I LOVE IT!!!! It's sooooo easy to use. I put off getting one for a while because I just like the feel of a book in my hand. But I'm really enjoying my new Nook. Highly recommend it. :thumbsup2

Did you look at the Kindle also? Just wondering what drew you to the Nook? Thanks~ :)

Your dog is beautiful. :)

I have friends who recently got the Nook. I spent some time playing with it and liked how easy it was to use and read.

I liked the touch screen of the Nook over the keypad of the Kindle.

The price was also right with the Nook. $150 vs $300

With the Nook you can go to the Barnes and Noble store and read any ebook for free.

Thank you! That's my Mugzy. :)

What costs $300? :confused3

That's not a fair comparison - the $300 (actually it's $379) product is the Kindle DX - the larger sized 9.7 inch screen, as opposed to the Nook and the regular Kindle, both of which have the 6 inch screen. I think the price of the 6 inch Kindle is now $189, while the wifi only Nook is $149 and the wifi plus 3G Nook is $199. All Kindle products have free 3G, none of them have wifi.
