Does anyone have a cover for the kindle they can recommend for the beach/pool? Or do you just no risk it? I love reading at the pool and beach. We are headed to Great Wolf Lodge in a couple of weeks and wondering if I should bother brining it there.

Was thrilled with my kindle anniversary gift last week :) I am an avid library goer so facing the challenge of amazon vs library ... have found lots of free books to stick on there but not ones I would normally read. Good to go outside my comfort zone though, right? :)

Any other new kindle owner tips? Currently, it's living in a bubble wrap envelope when not in use! Assuming I need a regular cover in addition to the water proof one? Where to get?

I just use an extra large ziploc bag.

Looks dorky but works just fine.

I have a Nook and my DH bought me a waterproof case on Amazon. It is by Trend Digital and they have them for the Kindle. It was awesome at the beach. Put it in before we saw any sand and left it pretty much the whole time with no worries on water or sand damage. Also did not have any glare. Highly recommend.

I don't bring mine to the pool or beach. I don't want it to get stolen when I leave my seat. I'm sure not about to bring it in the water with me.

I've got an Oberon cover that I love but it's leather and not waterproof.

I bought a Guardian case from M-Edge. It's a little pricey, $80, but totally worth it. We put in an inground pool this summer, and I read my Kindle out there every day. I tested it for leaks prior to taking the Kindle poolside. I've totally submersed the Kindle in the case with no problem. The case is waterproof, nothing gets in. You can drop it on pavement and no harm done. It's by far the best thing I've found to protect my Kindle.

another vote for zip-loc bag. We just put our kindle in the bag and never take it out, you can read it through the bag.

I just got my timbuk sleeve today. VERY nice! Lots o padding. Not waterproof, but lets me keep the Kindle naked. I don't want a "book" like cover. I like the thin kindle. i plan to keep it in my purse all the time now!

I use the gallon ziplock too. I do keep it in my hard cover case now in my beach bag. On vacation this summer just threw it in the bag in the ziplock. When I pulled it out the screen was damaged, luckily they replaced it with the warranty even though I was at fault.

Putting your kindle in a plastic bag sort of defeats the advantage of the no glare screen. Too much light reflects back from the baggie. You might want to invest in one of the waterproof trendy digital cases. It will work better than a ziplock bag and last alot longer. If you want something to use when your not at the beach or pool you might want to take a look at the leather book cover with book light that amazon sells. They arent cheap but there very sturdy and the book light disappears into the side of the cover when its not in use. I have one for my new kindle and I love it.

I have a trendy digital case and have used it at the beach and at the local waterpark. My only complaint is that you have to unziplock the top if you stop reading and your kindle goes to sleep to turn it back on, but that's really no big deal. It's lasted through 2 summers so far and for under $20, it's been well worth it.

I also recommend a ziploc bag...have taken it to the beach, pool and will be taking it to Disny at the end of the month:banana: we have down day and I already told the kids they can find me at the pool on a chair reading my kindle...they can swim, eat do whatever they want just leave me and my kindle alone :lmao:

Another vote for the ziplock bag. If we were at the pool every day, I would invest in a "real" waterproof cover, but for the amount of time I spend reading pool-side, this is a sensible choice.

I don't actually take my Kindle into the water -- I just read from a chair, so I'm really looking to avoid the accidental splashes or water dripping from my kids' hair or towels.

Glare is not a problem.

It really doesn't reflect that much...

The lighted covers, from what I know, are ONLY available for the Kindle 3. not sure if that'll change, but it's the status right now as far as I know.

I agree.

Another vote for the M-Edge Guardian case. I took one on my trip to Aruba and literally sat in the water all week and my Kindle never got a drop of water or grain of sand on it! :thumbsup2 Well worth the $.

I put mine in "upside down" so I did have this problem. Put the plug part toward the zipper part and you only have to open it when it needs charged.

Congratulations!!!
I have one of the leather m-edge covers but I use a gallon size zip-lock bag if I want to read near water. It works great!
I highly suggest searching the top 100 lists. Sometimes they have books for a dollar if they are trying to get you hooked on a series.

this is a bit off topic .. but..

I noticed you (the OP) said you go to the library a lot. Since you can download library books on a nook for free, why did you pick a kindle? Did other features outweigh the benefit of free library books?

I'm trying to decide which to get DD for Christmas.
