To start off we finally are making our first trip home after being a DVC member for almost a yr now. So let me start by stating I feel like I really got screwed.
To start we make the ressie and buy the airline tickets back in Nov because I had the money then and plus it was dirt cheap for 75bucks rd trip
Then I find out they are starting the big 50 yr party may 8th so I was like ,well that sucks, but i can deal with it.See we are down there from april 21 to may 2. Then I find out that they are offering free travel from the airport to disney .. That made me upset. I miss out on that and cant afford to go back home until the end of 2006.
Now I find out that the two weekeneds we are there ,they are closing MK at 7 because it is highschool weekened, at which they are opening the parks back up for highschoolers. So I am ok maybe they will allow DVC Members the chance to purchase those tickets.. NOPE. Unless your there with a Highschool student , we cant.
I though the big reason to be a member was you got perks like this ??

I hear and sympathize with your disappointment. But I thought we joined for a hedge against inflation and first rate accommodations?

The rest is just gravy. :rolleyes1

Yes and the main reasoni put myself in more debt is for that :rotfl2: ,but I thought that you get some perks with it.

These sound kind of minor to me. I took my family to MK on *Gay Day* one year and I didn't complain. Stuff happens. You got great airfare and the weather isn't too hot yet. The parks won't be very crowded at all. So go to MK early and leave at 7. Then come back the next morning. "Always look at the bright side of life."

The reason you become a member is to be able to stay at fantastic resorts at WDW and other places through your membership. That's the only thing you are guaranteed.

Any other perks are nice, but they're not the reason to buy. :sad2:

Again , I never mentioned that was the main reason why I bought it. I was under the impression that when your giving disney 14,000 bucks along with the 1000 bucks of my hard earn money a yr on dues, they threw you bone..

Not sure what you were expecting, but no where in anything you signed did you get the "perks" you seem to be wanting. And TRUST ME, you don't want to be in the MK on grad night.... (Think teens on homrmone overdrive!!! RUN!!!)

No matter when you book a vacation you will be missing something going on at Disney, not sure what Disney could have done, (started the celebration early, I think there is a reason for the May 5th date) Just go have a great time and remember the DVC mantra "We don't have to do it all.... we'll be back!"

I guess you could look on the bright side that you are forewarned about the high schoolers and can avoid them on those nights. The place might be kinda wild if its all high school kids

Sounds like you made assumptions that weren't true. My guess is there will be other surprises that are actually more important to you than the ones you quoted for the upcoming trip. Things like getting a room that does not meed your expectations/requests or having the time you can't get up for rent from another member. These are just a few of the reasons one should investigate before buying. Didn't you read all the legal paperwork before you bought, if you didn't you should have.

I too sympathize with your disappointment.

The two major reasons I bought DVC are
-pre-payed vacation (I have been a member since 93 and DVC has already paid for itself plus)
- first rate accommodations ( I could not afford the one & two bedroom suites without being a DVC member)

Hopefully all your future vacations with DVC will be "vacations of a lifetime".
All of mine have.

Pleeeeease don't take offense to this-but you didn't get screwed. Of course, you're disappointed, that's understandable, however, Disney announced their plans for the 5/05 celebration back in 5/04. They announced the Magical Express, I belive in late 12/04.
And if they are closing MK at 7:00, no big deal, you as a DVC member have many trips ahead of you. Didn't we all buy this for lovely Disney accomodations, and a lifetime of memories? I know I did. I didn't buy it for ''perks'' I was never promised to begin with. And the perks that we do get-like the AP discount make me pretty happy.

Did you really think that DVC members could attend Grad Nite in the Magic Kingdom? Grad Nite is for high school seniors. The place will be MOBBED. Why would Disney allow an extra few thousand DVC members in on top of the regular Grad Nite guests?

DVC members do get many perks that are not available to the regular Disney guest (a great annual pass discount, member receptions, member cruises, various discounts, etc). But admission to private parties in the Magic Kingdom is not one of them, unless it is for a private DVC party, which they have offered in the past.

I would think that before you dropped $14,000 you would have done some research. If you would have, you would see that you were not entitiled to something meant for high school groups unless you were a high school group. Also, did you want/expect Disney/DVC to check with you before they plan things like a 50 year party to make sure it coincides with your trip? Sorry, I am not trying to be mean. I think your complaints are very minor. With a little research, you should have known exactly what you were buying into. DVC is NOT big on perks. That is made very clear just by reading these boards. The biggest "perk" are the great accomadations. Sorry you aren't happy.

Lisa

It doesn't seem like your problem is with DVC, it's just the unfortunate timing of your vacation. If you would have planned a trip to a non-DVC hotel for the same dates, you would have the same grivances. The 50th anniversary celebration starts 05/05/05. DVC had nothing to do with the scheduling of that. The Magical Express from the airport starts that date, it is also available to DVC members so no discrimination there. Do you really want to go to MK from 10pm to 5am with a bunch of 18 year olds?

Hi,

I just wanted to know what IS the MAIN REASON why YOU bought into DVC?
Sorry you're not happy. Can you sell it back?

Sounds like you have lots of gripes about some timingissues not working out on your vaction. But they sure ain't DVC's fault, your ire is misdirected IMHO.

I was disappointed in many things in life. Then one day I learned to roll with the punches. I realized I couldn't control everything and have everything.

You are experiencing something called "that's life".

Sorry that you seem so disappointed in DVC and you haven't even experienced it yet.

Instead of looking at the negatives there are some advantages to your trip.

With the major celebration starting 5/5 some people might have put off their trip until then so you might find it less crowded.

With the celebration so close the castle will already be decorated for you to enjoy.

The local teens will be in the Magic Kingdom those nights so you and your family can enjoy Epcot, MGM or your resort without them.

No matter what DVC resort you are staying at you will be in some of the best accomodations on property!

Best of all as a DVC member you have years and years of enjoyment ahead.

Double post - sorry about that. :flower:

She did have some bad picks but geeze.

Althought, DVC and I are even on what I bought I wouldn't mind having a few extra perks myself.

Heck they will be getting my money for the next 40 plus years, how about a free
hat? LOL
