Kinda OT: PDA

For those of you who aren't all that into PDA, how was the wedding for you with the constant kissing in front of so many people?

If you're not into PDA, why start on your wedding day, sez I! You should only do what you feel comfortable doing, even if it isn't what people expect.

Are you worried about the tacky glass-clinking thing where you have to kiss when people start tapping their glasses? Cuz if you're uncomfortable with that, just lay down the law the first time it happens - I've heard of couples turning it around and announcing that guests have to donate a dollar for every glass-clink, or that they'll draw names out of a hat each time it happens and make THAT couple kiss!

Hmmm...Good question...DF and I aren't into being all over each other in public...but it seems after the first couple of days at WDW he's relaxed enough not to care.

I LOVE THAT IDEA...If we had a big guest list I would SO be doing this!!!

DH family kept doing the glass clinking at V&A and after many polite turndowns (trying to) I finally said I think my Dad is tired of seeing his only daughter making out all day so I think the clinking needs to be retired. They got the point

I'm always slightly uncomfortable with extended (or, heaven forbid, you-can-see-tongue) kisses. I was at a wedding last weekend where every time they did the glasses clinking thing, the couple kissed for at least a minute. Yes, I timed it. Honestly, I didn't know where to look. Do you look at them? Start talking to the person next to you again so as to afford them some privacy?? Do you join in the clapping even though you really think they should stop??

Anyway, I stuck to more chaste peck-type kisses at my wedding. Because no one needs to see more then that.

I'm actually concerned about the glass clinking thing myself (just because it's so annoying! I want to eat the food I paid for, people! lol) so I looked up some advice on the internet. My favorite was to tell people from the start that if they want you to kiss, the entire table has to stand up and sing a song about love, TV theme song, etc..

I got stuck doing that with my then 8 year old niece at a cousin's wedding. She made me go up with her and sing L-O-V-E by Ashlee Simpson. No, not embarassing at all! She still talks about it to this day.

I was actually thinking about the kissing thing. My dad loved our Roots pictures but he was like - "did you have to kiss your way around the Boardwalk?"

LOL! And it isn't like we were full on making out (tackay!) but I am not used to kissing around my Dad at all so anythign made me embarassed. And I did not even know this was a custom til it started happening and it was only DH family that did it. I wanted to kill them. So once I made my polite but somewhat snarky comment they got the clue and stopped.

I am not really bothered by PDA, but all of a sudden, DFi is embarrassed to kiss in front of his parents. Has anyone else had this problem? or is DFi still stuck in that high school phase?

I'm all for quick pecks. That's what DH and I did, but thankfully we didn't have too much clinking.

Like Ember said, where do you look? It does get a bit old watching someone make out, even if it is their wedding day. If you are having a DJ ask if they can ask people to refrain from clinking their glasses for kisses as to not intrupt the events of the day. Also avoid using bells as favors.

thats so nasty that people actually tongue kissed for a minute with the glass clicking, I dont think I would b able to even eat the dinner if I was at that wedding. I really do not get the appeal of this tradition, and it is always like the weirdo cousin that nobody likes that is 45 and still living with his parents that always seems to start the banging. I really hope nobody does this at my wedding.

The glass clinking thing doesn't happen here, so I should be pretty safe that my Australian family wont try and learn American traditions for our American wedding, however, I was more worried about the kissing photos... Yes, I'd like one, maybe 2... but that will do...

From what's been written here I'm assuming the guests can start clinking their glasses whenever they feel like it, and the bride & groom have to kiss (or more) . Should be amusing, but I can well imagine how it can get out of hand as the alcohol starts to flow. As with BecBennett, I think we'll be under strict instructions from our DD to give this American tradition a miss!!
