Heading to WDW next month and Fast Passes are set, including one for FOP. However, I have never watched Avatar and have no real desire to. Just not my genre. DH on the other hand loved it. Will I get anything that is happending throughout this ride?

I've never seen it, and still enjoyed the ride. Though, I wasn't as impressed as other people seem to be--so I'm wondering if I would have enjoyed it more had I seen the ride.

Never saw it, and have been on FOP half a dozen times. You don't need to know anything about it. It is just a beautiful experience with fantasy creatures. ENJOY!
Ahhhh thanks! That's what I like to read!

I saw the movie. Barely remember it. I either didn’t finish it or fell asleep. The ride was beautiful without knowing the movie’s story.

Now Na’vi was a snore fest for my family. Won’t go on that again unless we are going with people who haven’t been.

AGREE.

So sad because it's beautiful but clearly comes off as unfinished.

BUT we do go on it when the line is short (at end of day we have walked right on) or pick it up on a rolling FP+.

I think FoP definitely stands on its own!

I have mentioned elsewhere that the River Journey Ride seems to be the one where "context" may matter more to people, and there was a discussion that perhaps watching the movie and loving it adds to the ride, but just watching the movie and not really enjoying it would not add to the ride. So, for example, my hubby and I are huge fans of Avatar, and I do think loving the movie made me really enjoy River Journey... and it made FoP my absolute favorite.

It’s a great ride. While similar to Soarin’, I think it’s better. But I don’t think it’s the best ride at Disney like many do. I prefer the coasters. I don’t think having seen the movie enhances it much at all.

I also like the Navi better than most. It’s not a thrill ride but neither are many other rides like Pirates, FEA, PP, etc. and Navi is much more beautiful and modern than those. So I guess I don’t get the dislike of Navi.

I didn't see the movie until last year. I really expected to not enjoy it; in fact, I thought it looked downright silly and had refused to see it for years because of that. It is not my genre either. But I am so glad I changed my mind. I actually really liked it, and I'm glad I saw it before riding FOP.

I do enjoy the N’avi river ride because I love the visuals!

I really liked the movie but I like Sci-Fi.

I agree. I didn't bother watching it, it just didn't sound like something I'd like. One day I was there and the movie was in front of me and I'm so glad it was. I loved it. Give it a chance, you may be surprised.

I agree that FOP is amazing on its own. That being said, you will get more out of the ride and Pandora in general I’d you can bring yourself to watch the movie. DW and I rewatched it before our last trip and showed it to our DDs (even though they’re a little young) upon our return so they would appreciate Pandora more on our next trip. They loved it.

I've never seen the movie. I hope to never, ever see the movie.

Found this ride to be pretty darn amazing. Like a dream. Worth getting up early.

I fell asleep watching the movie at the movie theater, just found it boring!!With that said I've ridden FoP I think 6 times now,2 times with FP and of the other 4 times 3 times I waited around 2 hours more or less, one time it was around 35 minutes. If I made the 2 hour wait three times the ride has to be good, not liking the movie has nothing to do with not being able to enjoy the ride. After the first 2-3 times I rode it I was certain it was the best ride in WDW,however like all simulators, they're not as good the 5th time you do them as they were the first time.I've gone back to ToT being my favorite ride in WDW.The Navi boat ride is nice but not worth more than a 20 minute wait.

I've seen the movie, but I didn't enjoy it. At all. In fact, after the movie my thought was, well that's three hours of my life that I will never get back.

I am also terrified of heights.

I thoroughly enjoyed Flights of Passage. I was able to ride it twice. And I hope to be able to get fastpasses for our next trip. It is a pretty short trip, so I may be out of luck.

Na'vi River was a snoozer. Even with a fastpass, the wait is too long.

I liked the movie. Not loved, but liked. It has beautiful scenery that I think would be better appreciated on a big screen (I saw it at home). I LOVED the ride!! I didn't get to ride Navi, but hope to next week!
Just to let you know, in my opinion the Avatar movie is basically a sci-fi version of the European people taking the "new world" from the native Americans. But.. It is a visually beautiful film.

A common question actually.

I usually ask if you also enjoy Splash Mountain since most have not seen Song of the South. It really is never necessary to have seen a movie to enjoy a ride or an attraction
