Hi! 50's prime time cafe looks like a lot of fun, and we have lunch reservations there with our 2 dd's, 2 1/2 and almost 8 months. We are ready for a good laugh, however... I was reading where some one had to stand up and sing in front of everyone. Dh Would be all for it, but I WILL NOT do that. Does this really become a pressing issue where they will not leave someone alone if they don't follow through with the acting? TIA!

No, we didn't HAVE to do much of anything (although we did remember to sit up straight, no elbows on the table and we ate all our vegetables). I have found that most Disney CM's in the interactive type restaurants get a feel right away for how far you want to take it, and will play along, or not, based on your responses. They can't force you to do anything (except pay the bill!). I've been to WCC at WL and had a very peaceful meal, with total chaos surrounding me, but the server could tell that we were there to eat and be on our way.

Thanks!! Singing out loud in front of anyone is one of my worst nightmares, lol. Dh on the other hand, loves that stuff. Funny thing is, he eats no veggies, ever... and almost always wears a hat, so it should be amusing!

I wouldn't worry about it. I've been there a number of times and have never seen anyone badgered into doing anything. Their schtick is mostly about finishing all your vegetables, keeping elbows off the table, and sometimes some harmless clowning around. As fla4fun said, I think that the servers do a good job of sensing how much clowning around various people want to do or NOT do. I've taken my parents (in their 70s) to eat there a couple times, and they would NEVER want to be singled out or made to look foolish. Well, in both cases the servers teased and made jokes with my parents just right, and they loved it. :) Nothing embarrassing at all.

Go and have a good time. The food is great!

Just behave, keep your elbows off the table, don't wear your hat in the restaurant, eat all your vegetables, use your silverware properly, say please and thank you, don't tattle on anyone else,,, just generally mind your manners and you'll be fine :teeth:

I think if you told them you didn't want to do what they said they would listen. The first time we went I was put in a corner:eek: for not finishing my dinner. We have been a few times since and are not bothered at all. They kind of feel you out as to how much you will do. A plus for you is the age of your children, the CM's know when to set the limits.

I think it depends on you level of participation. The CM's are good at knowing who will do it and who will not. We always have a great time there! We are the ones singing "I'm a little teapot" everytime! We also include the entire room because ,after all ,they are our cousins, aunts and uncles! :rotfl:

We aren't the kind of people to participate in things like this either. But we go to the 50s and have never had to do any of the "embarrasing" things there. Go and enjoy. The servers are there to entertain, not to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

When we last went, we informed our server at the start that we were there for a nice meal and each other's company, not the show. She thanked us and said that she was frankly relieved to have people be honest with her.

We ended up talking to the couple next to us most of the meal (well, the husband talked to us most of the time while his wife looked slightly annoyed ;) ) and the server tried to hit me up for a job.

So while we went in as a twosome, five people ended up having an intelligent, adult conversation about a variety of topics, and everyone, including our server, was happy with the outcome.

I was told to finish my meal and said no I don't like that bit, the server was fine. When I went to pay the bill the server took the water out of DH. Letting a woman pay the bill was a big nono. It was great fun.

Don't worry you won't be bullied into anything you don't want to do. It really is just harmless fun.

Last time I was there my family and the couple next to us did not finish our veggies so we made a mountain of veggies and put it on an empty table so the servers couldn't figure out which of us had actually eaten or not eaten them. It was very funny. (Had to be there LOL) P.S. i don't eat veggies either.

If you don't want to be bothered- then you won't be. I had a girls only trip and our waiter was Vinny- what a hoot we had. I had to go to the corner and wear a dunce cap- we got in a lot of trouble... but when a family came into our room, Vinny was normal with them. It depends on your level of fun. I've had normal meals there because my hubby hates the attention... to having everyone yell at me for not eating my green beans. So I ate them and then realized it had a nut mixed in and I'm allergic to nuts. OY! My waiter went around and found me a benadryl to help with the reaction. Then he hassled me for my 'blonde' hair - :rolleyes1
I love 50's :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone, it helps to hear others experiences! They can pick on dh all they want, and me too a little, just don't make me sing, lol!

Forewarning: If you dont like being singled out then dont sit in the middle of the theater during the Monsters Inc Laugh Factory attraction.:goodvibes

We like 50s Prime Time too! We just ate there in July and it was fine - food was good and the waitress didn't pick too much. Just playfully reminded my DD to set the table!

Last June, my whole family was there and my two older girls played into the silliness with the waiter. When my middle DD didn't eat her vegetables, he told her she'd have to sing I'm A Little Teapot! When she wasn't singing loud enough, he told her she could sing it right the first time, or he'd take her to each of the sections and she could sing for the whole restaurant! It was really cute and Amy just hammed it up a bit too!!! Our waiter was really good and played around just enough!

Have a great trip!!
