Kind of gross....

It's kind of embarassing to admit but I have a cat that is making me CRAZY!! He poops in front of our front door all the time. He will pee in the litter box but not poop. He knows better - he hides when we walk out there and he has done it. It's not medical we have had him checked out. I can't get rid of him, I've had him 10 years and I love him. I have a new baby so the cats have been already isolated to the entryway most the time. I don't want to put him in a cage when we aren't home but I don't know what else I can do. Any suggestions??

New baby??? Did the cat begin this "activity" just after coming home with the new baby? I've heard similar tales from others with cats. We have friends with a cat that HATES the man's mother. When his mother visits for holidays, she always has a favorite spot on the sofa to sit and watch her soaps. (The man and wife are usually at work.) Twice now, the cat has peed in her favorite spot on the sofa. Cat always waited till no one was in the room.

Is there a reason you have isolated the cats from the baby? I don't believe in leaving any young child alone with any animal in a room but the cats' won't cause harm to the baby. They do not "smother" them. Our cats never even wanted anything to do with that smelly, noisey, grabby creature.

Oh no.....I know My furbabies won't hurt my new baby. It's just that he does the pooping thing (he has for a while) so we won't let them in at night.....he was pooping on the corner section of our sectional (it's like an endtable). This is a long occurring event. So long I don't remember when it started. We started leaving them on the entryway several months before I had the baby in hopes they wouldn't connect getting the boot with the baby. They have always slept with us up to that point. But he was doing it long before that. I have just gotten to the point that I'm ready to put him in one of those play kennels when I'm not there and I think that's mean and don't want to do it. I don't know what to do with him.

Well, I had a male cat that was doing this. He was neutered, so it had nothing to do with that. The vet gave him some type of shot, and he never did this again.

Years later, i had another cat that did this, and the vet in that city stated that he could give the cat a pill to try to get him to use the box. The pill did not work, and we had to give him away eventually--he was going on the carpet, and we couldn't deal with that anymore. He was so sweet, too!

So, maybe that can help you. I don't know what the shot/pill was. For some reason, I think it was some type of hormone, but I'm not sure.
