No, it's not where's the best place to eat your can of corn!

I have had gastric bypass surgery and can eat only a small, small portion of food. I have a 'restaurant card'.stating that I had surgery and asking the establishment to allow me to order a child's meal or half portion.

Does anyone have ANY Disney experience with this issue? I would love to go to Boma but really don't want to pay $15 for four bites of food.

Just wondering.

I have never done this myself, but I have heard from others on the dis that they were able to order childrens meals without a hassle. If you have a card stating that you have a medical reason to order half portions and such I can't see how that would be a problem, the cm's are usually very accomodiating. Also, if you are going call ahead ask them to note that on your PS, you might not have to even show your card.

You will have no problem eating off the kid's menu... I do it all the time, however I don't think they will give you any $$$ off the buffet price.

Kim, that's kind of what i was thinking, too. Oh, well. Still goin' to Boma.:earsgirl:

I think your best bet is to contact the manager at the restaurant that you are interested in and ask them... I think most managers have alot of say in regards to these things, and are the ones that deal with other food issues like allergies and such.

Call Boma on a non-peak time and speak with the manager about it. I'm sure they will be wililng to accomodate if you approach them in advance =)

Actually, that would be $23 for 4 bites of food at Boma. ;) If 4 bites is literally all that you will be eating, an expensive buffet might not be the best choice.

Well, it depends on the day. On a good one, I can eat a Mickey d's cheeseburger (the happy meal one) AND the bag of apple slices.

One a bad one, I can literally eat 3 bites.

I really wanna do Boma, but you might be right. i'll have to think this over.

I am, however, becoming quite the cheap date....not that I wasn't 'cheap' before. ;)

You can always cancel if you're not up to it. Everything there is pretty spicy. I know my friend that had WLS wouldn't have been able to eat anything other than mac & cheese or something at the kid's table.

I seem to remember some kind of food sampling thing there in the early afternoon. I'm not sure if you have to be staying there to attend, though but it's worth looking into.

We were in WDW last Easter and at Chef Mickey's for Easter dinner and at Crystal Palace for lunch, they let us pay the child's price for our 14 YO very picky eater DD. We explained that she would only be eating from the childrens buffet and after asking the manager, the waitresses at both places said no problem. So, it can't hurt to ask!

You can always ask for the chef and explain the situation also. When we were there we talked with the chef at the Pepper Market and mentioned how large the portions are. He said that at any time, ask for the chef and explain what it is you would want and they will try and work with you. There are times where they just wouldn't be able to make anything smaller, but he said most of the time they will be more than willing for a reduced cost.

How that would work with buffets I'm not sure, but with just normal dining it should

Hi, my DW had Gastric Bypass last month. We are going to WDW in October and we were worried about this as well.

A very nice person here on the DIS, who has also had the surgery, said she had no problem ordering from the child's menu or getting the child's price at a buffet. She did say the dinner shows were another matter as much of the price is for the entertainment.

We also plan on splitting a lot of meals as most of what is on the children's menu are things like chicken nuggets, etc.

Good luck and have a great time.:wave2:

That's one thing I'll be looking at too, for our trip in November. I am
two years out from having had my surgery, however, so I can eat a small plate's worth depending on what it is.:) Kind of like a bread and butter plate. At our big sit down dinners, so far I'm planning on splitting with our son, who is ten and kind of adventurous in eating. At some place like Le Cellier, I would order the kids steak plate, and what I don't eat give to him. (He likes steak!)
But, what I do in a lot of cases is case out the appetizer menus. That way if we order two appetizers, I can munch on both if I like them. And, not have to pay a whole lot for a meal. For example, at Macaroni Grill, we order two appetizers usually. One of them will be the bruschetta, which I love, and I can eat about two pieces, along with the bread they bring out earlier. My daughter will eat the other two, if she's real hungry, or I take the extra home for the next morning.
Good luck on your choices. I'm kind of glad now, that we didn't go so close to my surgery.:)

Sirius and Luvn~travel,

thank you both so much for the info! I'm 3 months out (62 pounds so far!) and my doctor makes our pouches a bit bigger than most but it's still a far cry from a 'normal' meal...even a kid's meal.

Sirius, how is the wife doing? I'd love to hear.

Luvn, I am with you. I wanted to do Dis this year but felt 8 months would be too soon after surgery...size wise and tummy wise. :p
