Kim's new and improved life journal!

First of all, that baby is beautiful!!! Her parents should be so proud! She is adorable!!!

Second....Em wouldn't be allowed to leave the house for 2 weeks if she were mine.....in addition to all of the other!!! OMG kim...I can only imagine the panic you felt when she didn't get off the bus!! Cam is pushing the limits here too. She'll be 8 in July and she is driving me nuts!!! As it stands right now, she is not allowed to go anywhere but in the backyard to the trampoline. That's it. No tv, no music, no computer....trampoline or books. Gonna be a long summer!!
New punishment.....old punishment....hand to butt. It worked for us (me) growing up....wonder if it would work on our kids? :confused3 I'm not really one for it, but I feel that my DD is getting entirely to big for her britches and needs to be reeled back in.

Anyway Kim....good luck....call if you need anything....and don't worry, you're not alone!!!

marie

Thanks ladies. I'm still reeling and can't even commit to a punishment yet.

I'm not a mom, so I'm not going to offer any advice--I'm not sure what advice I'd give! I think that age kid, esp. girls are so tough to manage. I hope I can handle it someday.

I'm thinking good thoughts for you, and I hope you came to a good solution--what am I saying--I KNOW you came to a good solution :)
:grouphug:

Hiya Beaner...

Just to add my 2 cents on the whole parenting deal, I basically agree with Amy (i know, i know). I believe that she should be talked to, making sure she understands the importance and significance of both lying and not being where she is supposed to be. After that I'm all for tying in the punishment to the crime....not allowed to go to friends houses, not allowed to go places with others (movies, parties, etc) until she shows that she is capable of being where she is supposed to be at all times. I'd strip her of her independence until she shows that she is reliable and trustworthy. Gosh, I'm making your kid sound horrible!! I'm sorry...I know she's a GREAT child with GREAT parents :) Just chiming in on what I'd do with mine in a related scenario.

It's so tough nowadays to let them be kids, but still control and dictate their actions...and it's always a tough judgement call...I question every decision I make with my DD. Just know that she is a great kid and that you are a great parent doing the best job that you can. Every kid goes through phases like this...try not to get too worked up over it. :)

I am amazed that the school let her get on that bus though...it takes an act of congress for that to happen around here. I'd definitely find out if they stuck to policy and raise a ruckus if they didn't.

Great job on the runs though!! Here's hoping you have a nice extended weekend...

and how about Lost!!! Oh my!! Fast Forwarding to the future :) Had to be Sawyer in the casket, right? And poor Charlie :( I wonder why he didn't just swim out the hole created by the explosion? :confused3 They sure did a great job of setting things up for next season...can't believe we have to wait until February!

Ok, guys. I think I'm calm enough now. :sad2: This one really threw me for a loop. Anyway, yes, she's grounded. We have a few committments this weekend (why does she do this right before a holiday weekend? :confused3 ) that we can't get out of, so she will be there with us, just certainly not living it up with the rest of the kids. (which might be a better/harsher punishment than just letting her stay home). She will be writing us a report about what consequences there were for her just deciding to do something on her own, and lying to get her way. Also, yesterday I called the school and asked for a guidance counselor to meet with her about it. She has no idea it was our idea, but the counselor said she's extremely remorseful and thinks that meeting scared her big time. GOOD!! :thumbsup2

Oh, and I called the school THAT AFTERNOON about her being allowed on another bus. No, it's definitely not policy for that to happen, and if I actually wanted her to go home with a friend, it would never happen. The vice principal was supposed to talk to the bus driver yesterday about it. :headache:

LOST - holy freakin cow. I don't know, Scott, I was thinking Ben at first (in the casket), and then maybe Locke. Who else would have no one? Sawyer's another good guess. How about Hurley? He was hysterical driving the VW van!! :) Gotta tell ya - I knew when I saw Jack with the beard that it was a fast forward. And then when Kate met him at the airport, it sealed it for me. BUT - why did Jack say to the doctor in the hallway to go see his father upstairs? :confused3 Isn't he dead? :confused3 Poor, poor Charlie sacrificed himself so that the rest of them could be rescued. I'll miss the bloke. :goodvibes And yes, unfortunately we have LOTS of time to ponder on it.....OH, one last thing...supposedly the funeral home's name was the words "flash forward" all mixed up?? That's what DH heard. :upsidedow

OK, on to me stuff. I didn't run today, since we have a nice long 3 day weekend. I plan on running tomorrow and Monday. And I want them to be a little longer, and definitely slower. I've done a few speedy Kim-fast runs in a row, so I want to slow it down and go longer (but not too long). I finally finished the Marathons for Mortals book and saw the 1/2 marathon training plan. I hope to start that up in the fall, even though I won't actually be running a 1/2 marathon. I figured I can do the 13 mile "race" with myself or against my virtual Garmin running buddy. :rotfl:

DH and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last night. We went out for drinks (I had a few too many :rolleyes1 ) and dinner at Carmines in AC. It was a lot of fun. It's no Vegas (had thought about doing that for our anniversary), but it was fun. :goodvibes

Ok, all. I think that's it. Have a WONDERFUL holiday weekend!!:woohoo:

Wow, can you imagine Em sitting there next to you, WATCHING the other kids playing!! Harsh mom...harsh!! BUT EFFECTIVE!!! I'm going to have to remember this conversation next time I need punishment ideas!! I also love the fact that the guidance counselor talked to her!! EXCELLENT mom!!!
You are such a good mom....teach me yoda, teach me!!
When is school out for you guys? Our last day was Thursday.

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like you two had a nice evening! Much nicer than what we did on our 10 yr....(tell ya later!)

have a wonderful weekend....relax and have fun!!

marie

When is school out for you guys? Our last day was Thursday.

June 11th & 12th they have 1/2 days and then that's it. :thumbsup2 Summer camp starts on the 18th. We're taking the kid to Hershey Park the 13th - 15th, so it should be fun. Barring any more lies from the little girl.....:sad2:

Hi Kim,

Happy Anniversary to you and your DH! Sounds like you had a great time last night.:goodvibes

I'm sorry to hear about the situation with Em. :( Parenting can be so tough sometimes. I think the grounding, the report, and the talk with the guidance counselor are all good ideas.

Those pictures of Skyelar are adorable! She is a beautiful baby!princess:

Hope you have a great weekend!:goodvibes

Hey guys. Not too much to report today. We started the day with DD's soccer game at 9:30 (we won, still undefeated :thumbsup2 ) and then I came home and ran. I planned on a slow, short run because it was already about 80 degrees and I had already eaten a small breakfast, so I wasn't sure how my stomach was gonna handle it. I ended up running 2 miles in 23.45 minutes. At one point, I looked at the Garmin and it said was running at a 9.something mpm  . I think I just wanted to get it done today because it was just stuffy and hot out. I guess I'm used to my early morning, cool runs :sad2: . Hopefully on Monday I can get out earlier and enjoy it a little more.

After that I cleaned up, finally watched the Gray's Anatomy season finale (not too impressed) and then went to a super fun graduation party for someone we know :rolleyes1  .

Tomorrow's plan is church then up to my parents for another barbque. The one that Em will not like too much. ;)

and then went to a super fun graduation party for someone we know :rolleyes1  .

WOAH! you went to a party for someone?!?!;)

Thanks for coming! did you guys have fun? My mom said come over again..
i hurt myself after you left by the way-dont know how, but my ankle is all swollen..ugh!

Hi Kim
The photos of Skyelar are gorgeous!!
Sending a belated happy anniversary :)
Hope DD behaves now ;)
Fantastic news with all the running you are getting in, & i didnt know about the 10% thing so i've learnt something too!!!
Hope your having a good weekend.

Oh, that's why you didn't come to my party....you were too busy at Jens!!! :rolleyes1
Glad ya'll had fun!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

marie

Hey girls. Thanks for stopping by!

Jenny Lynne - YES, we had a great time.

Tracey - I'm glad that 10% pointer helped you out too! Is that you in your new avatar pic? :confused3

Marie - How was YOUR party? I don't remember receiving an invite. :rolleyes1

We went to my parent's bbq today and poor Em sat & watched. She actually did really well with not whining (too much). We did let her in the pool for about 10 minutes by herself (so as not to have fun with her cousins while punished). It was just unbearably hot out, so it would have been TOO harsh of us to not let her cool off a little. I ate way too much (as usual) but had lots of laughs with the fam.

The plan is to wake up somewhat early & run. Then we'll go buy some flowers, and the kids & I will plant them while DH goes in to work for a few hours.

Nite all!

Hey all. Well, I'm EXHAUSTED!!!

I didn't run this morning. I woke up early, but my legs (especially my calves) were very sore. I think this faster running pace is doing a doozy on my legs. So I took today off, or else no flowers would have been able to be planted by me. :headache:

I finished the 2 front and one side flower beds, complete with some new shrubs and lots of flowers....and de-weeded. :thumbsup2 I was going to go out back and put up the brick border on the flower beds we're making back there, but I'm just too beat. Not even cooking tonight...pizza it is! :thumbsup2

Tomorrow will be a run day no matter what. :goodvibes

Hi Kim!
Happy Belated Anniversary! It's great you got to go out and have a little fun. :)

I can't believe how fast you are going - that is amazingly cool and very inspiring. I can believe your calves would be grumbling about it, though!

Great job getting those flowers planted.

Tomorrow will be a run day no matter what. :goodvibes

Yes, I quoted myself. But THIS is the phrase I heard in my head this morning when I was trying to convince myself to stay in bed this morning. This was a day when this journal really came in handy. If I didn't run again today, I would have had to come crawling back here begging myself for forgiveness.

So I ran. I ran 2 miles in 23.07. :scared1: Felt great once I actually woke up probably 1/4 mile into the run. But I just am having a hard time recovering from the runs. Today my legs were crampy, stiff and my calves were still really sore. I also had a bit of an issue with my left hip. (I think I mentioned this before) When I was younger I thought I was "cool" to show off that I could pop my hips out of their socket. On days like this when my hips hurt...I wonder if my cool-ness led to any sort of damage. :sad2:

As of now, I plan on running again on Thursday. If I don't feel good enough, I'll put it off until Friday. I'll keep you all posted. :thumbsup2

Oh, and my buddy Janine started back up on the couch-to-5K program this week. She is the one that told me about it way back when, and has been a huge running inspiration for me. I know she'll do great and get right back into it.

Corinna - Thanks for stopping by! :)

Great job getting out there kim!! You rock!!!
I can't believe how fast you are going....sore legs my butt!!!
Keep it up girl....maybe I'll get inspired again....:confused3

talk to ya soon
marie

Hey all! I had a GREAT day off today. Breakfast with the teachers at Jake's school was awesome. They made me cry (his teachers) by telling me how much they are gonna miss him. Yup, I knew that already. He's a sweetie pie.

After bfast I went for my ultrasound. Cross your fingers they find nothing wrong with me, so I can go ahead with that ablation and be done with the issues I've had for so long. :wizard:

I then met my mom for a little mom/daughter Q.T. lunch. Don't get those often enough. (what was that I said recently about eating better? :rolleyes1 ).

Then I went for a new 'do. Got myself some color and a cut and I'm revitalized now! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

My hip felt perfect today. My calves still a little sore, especially when I squat down to pick something up or tie a little one's shoes. But I guess that'll work itself out.

I hope to run in the am. If for some reason I don't...then I'll do it on Friday.:goodvibes

I'm going to live vicariously through you!! New hair, lunch out, no female issues.....man......:thumbsup2
Get out there and run tomorrow.....it makes for a great day!!!
I'm actually thinking of getting on my DH's bike in the morning.....:rotfl:

m

Wow, sounds like you had a great day there Beaner!!

Here's hoping you heal up soon so you can get back out there pounding the pavement. Who knew that in the grand priority of things, planting flowers actually superceedes running? :confused3 (kidding) (kind of)

Have a good evening and good luck with the run in the morning ;)
