Kilimanjaro Safari in the evening

In June 2017 we went on the 9 pm Safari (AK was open late because Pandora just opened). I will never do the Safari in the morning again. The night ride was spectacular! The Lions were active and standing. We did the Safari two times that week at night.

We have been on the safari tons of tmes. The best ever ride was around dusk in the summer. The lions were out and the male lion was on "pride" rock just like the lion king. If that wasn't enough he let out a roar that was just unbelievable. The entire vehicle was silent. In fact even before we got to the lions we could hear him roaring. When we pulled away the guide/driver said that we just saw a rare sight. It doesn't happen that often.

As others have said it's just in the timing and luck. We have been riding the safari since opening week and very rarely even saw the lions and had never heardtje male roar. It was quite a sight.

We had this same experience! We got loaded into the vehicle before dusk but just as we pulled out they stopped the line due to an animal in the path. So there we sat for quite a long time and dusk arrived, at this point we had already left the loading point so no turning back and figured we would not see much. However it turned out to be really exciting when we got to the lions, They were *VERY* vocal! Both the male and female had just started roaring back and forth as we pulled up, since the line got cut off again and no one was behind us we were able to sit there and watch for awhile. The guide said its not often they they roar, but she'd never heard them roar that much and that long, the CMs were talking about it on the radio asking who was the lucky one up there. But it was 100% timing as just before we pulled away when another vehicle showed up they stopped and we didn't hear any more.

I think middle of the day is the worst time to go on. Animals usually seem lethargic. We went on at 6:20p yesterday and it was great. Rhinos, elephants, lions were out and about. We got stalled because a giraffe was blocking the path, but I consider that a bonus.
