Kilimanjaro Safari during Christmas

We are planning a full day at Animal Kingdom on Christmas Eve. Our plan is to ride Kilimanjaro Safari first thing in the morning, then have a fastpass to ride again in the evening. The latest fastpass that I could get is 2:30-3:30. I've read that it is best to get the last tour before closing because the animals will be up waiting to be fed. But since AK is open until 8:00 that evening, will they feed the animals while the tours are still going on? Plus, I am assuming that the attraction closes earlier since sunset is at 5:36 p.m. that day. Does anyone know when they will be feeding the animals and when the last tour would be? I've been stalking the website to get a later fastpass, but maybe there is no need. Thanks for any input!

For the most part they don't feed the animals while they are out, they bring them back to the barns to feed them.

I would imagine that the last ride will be around 5:00. Most of the animals are housed in barns at night. That is where they would be fed. While they may be a bit more active as the ride closing nears, you can still have great animal viewing in mid-afternoon. Particularly if it isn't too warm a day.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll continue to try to get fastpasses for a little later. I'm thinking around 4:30 would be ideal, but what I have now will be fine.

I have been on the Safari from every time frame from 11:00 AM until after 5:30. I have always seen animals. I've read people say not to go at high noon because it's so hot but then others say not to go in late afternoon because it's so hot. I've read not to go when it's raining.

Best time to go on the Safari? Anytime.

When we were there last week, we rode the safari around 4pm (they were open until 8 that day) and it seemed like a lot of the animals were not out. However, we did get to see some animals up and walking around - like the lions - that we usually just see sleeping.
