kids/tween clubs age strict?

Hi, does anyone know if DCL is strict with their age restrictions? I have a 15 yo that would like to go to the tween club with her 12 yo sister.

The ages are pretty strict. Only exceptions I've seen is aging up (a younger sibling wants to go with older one, or "my kid is so mature, he/she will hate the club/lab" situations). And, even then, it's not always allowed.

You are correct. Aging down is not allowed at all. They do sometimes allow kids to age up to the next club if they are close to the age allowed, there is space available, and the parents are willing to sign a waiver. But the decision as to whether it will be allowed is not made prior to embarkation.

In the OP's case, the kids will only be allowed to be in the same club during open house. The 15yo can't be in the Edge and the 12yo is too young to age up to the Vibe.

On our last cruise two weeks ago there a few times Edge invaded Vibe. It was rather late at night but it might be fun for your kids.

My oldest was 3 weeks too old for the 3-12 club on our last cruise, and I asked if he would be allowed in on just the first night of our 7 night trip just to help settle his slightly autistic brother in. (On our first cruise my youngest was a little nervous on the first day, but with big brother there he gave it a try, liked it, and there was no problem for the rest of the trip.) Even under those circumstances Disney wouldn't let him go in for one day to the 3-12 club. So I'd say that there is no circumstance where they will let a kid go into a younger age group's club.

My DS was a couple of weeks shy of his 11th birthday when we cruised with his cousin who was 12. He didn't want to go to the Lab because it was our 5th cruise and he had been there all our previous cruises and been bored by it. They would not let him into the Edge with his cousin.

In cases like this, it often has to do with the number of kids on board in that age group. If there are enough kids in the 11 to 14 age range booked on the cruise to put the Edge at capacity, they can't allow anyone to age up. If there are fewer 11 to 14 year olds on board, they are more likely to grant the request.

My daughter was 13 when we went on the Med cruise this past June. We went and toured the Vibe and without asking they told me that if I signed a waiver my daughter could use Vibe, so she was able to use both clubs. So they do allow flexibility with aging up at least sometimes.

As noted, as long as the complement of kids in the correct age range for any specific club is not full, then most kids will be allowed to age up, depending on how close to they are to the correct age.
