Kids to old now to consider buying a DVC?

We bought in 2000, DH and I are in our mid to late 40's, no children. Need I say more?

The flexibility that DVC gives is the best thing. There is no end to what you can do with your points. So far we've used them just for us, but one day I hope to be able to share with others.

Next year we're cruising (not on points) for my 50 b'day. Can hardly wait - who would have thought someone would enjoy having a milestone birthday?

Enjoy - no matter what your decision is!

I bought into DVC when my kids were 24 and 21! I bought it for me, not them. (They rarely go to WDW.) DH is just starting to come around regarding Disney. ;) Talked him into 2 trips later this year and an AP. I love WDW, and DVC is just perfect for me! :D

DW and I just bought into DVC last year....our 2 boys are in their early 20's. It's never too late to buy. We will enjoy this for years to come and just maybe we will let the boys and their families use it when they get married.........only maybe though !!
Mom and Dad still get 1st choice for use of the points.

Personally, I love DVC. But, my personal opinion is that I don't think I'd be buying if my kids were 15 or older. I'd rent points instead, and maybe look at another time share. But that's just me, and you asked for opinions, so there's mine.

I was 45 and my husband was 60 when we bought DVC 12 years ago. All of our kids were grown. We take friends and family with us sometimes. Most times we go alone. Sometimes our kids use the points and three times we were able to bring our grandkids sans parents( the best way to enjoy grandkids). We have given our kids trips to Concierge destinations and enjoy going to them as well. We have 1100 pts and use them all over the place. People tell us how envious they are of us to be on vacation so much. We tell them that by prepaying our vacations we are always assured we will go somewhere.

When we bought 170 points 6 years ago, we figured that we would start going down to Disney by ourselves because our kids were 20 and 17, and in college. Well, that only happened twice in 15 trips, so we bought enough extra points for them to go with their families. Our problem is that both kids keep falling for people who are anti-Disney. That just will not do--either they change, or they don't stay in the family, since we are two generations of an extended family of Disney-lovers.

Our kids are 16 and 12. I would imagine they could get bored going to Disney, but I never will. And I can go without them (when they're older, of course).

It's funny-my parents couldn't afford to take us when we were kids. But after we were all grown and out of the house, they took a trip with their friends. And then another. And another.

I kinda hope they will look into DVC when they come with us in June.

If YOU like Disney, then do it now as a family vacation investment, and you can use it later for yourself and spouse. Good luck, whatever you decide.

We bought 11 years ago, and now my three are 22, almost 21 and 18. We haven't figured out a way to make them stop wanting to go with us.;) They still love it.

We added on a VWL contract so that we'd have plenty of points to share when the time comes that they have families of their own.

Cruella, bite your tongue! I guess if they fall for someone who doesn't like Disney (*GASP*!) that will just leave more points for the rest of us.:p

We purchased last June when DS was 16. We decided this was a good time for us (financially) to do so. Also, DS will be going off to college in the fall of 2004. We would like to be able to go on vacation while paying college bills and this will work for us. We also thought is would be nice to allow DS and friends to use some points for his breaks too. We look forward to many years of vacationing with and w/o DS. I had to laugh about the Disney commercial because DH says that will definitely be DS when he grows up!!! Annmarie

We don't have any kids and certainly aren't going to have any just so we can go to Disney. HMMM.... in fact that would probably slow us down. Do it for yourselves, and eventually you will have married children to share it with, and then grandchildren. And even each other in your empty nest. If you love it for you, don't justify it now for later, because later you may have the reason but not the DVC.

When my DD brings that potential hubby home to meet the parents my question will be "Boy, you a Disney fan" of course Ill be sittin on the front porch with a 12-gauge in hand. He better hope he's a fan of Disney is all I can say!! Otherwise he's got a long hard life head of 'em. Yep, long, hard life, that thar's for sure. He'll me mumblin' DVC this and DVC that for the rest of his natural born days.

All of the above.

Kids age is absolutely not reason not to buy. Heck, life can take some strange turns, and one thing I've learned is to never be sorry for what I didn't do. My children are 18, 13, and 9. My oldest daughter is going off to college in August, and we are planning our first visit home next August. The first thing out of her mouth was that we will have to go a bit earlier so she can come before she has to return to college.

Our daughter is 12, and we bought two years ago. Our biggest hurdle may be eventually convincing her that the DVC contracts belong to US, not HER. She's already thinking along the lines of WDW wedding, honeymoon cruise, trips when she has kids. Oh well, I guess as long as we still get the master bedroom... Diana

We bought in 4 years ago(230)......our kids are now 28 and 17. We also plan on staying at OKW during Jan and Feb.Now we have 600 pts and only have dues to worry about for the next 39 years.:D

We purchased BCV last year at the age of 63. We have four kids and six grandkids. We look forward to each visit to WDW, with or without them. I must admit, it is more fun when we have any of them coming with us.

We looked at DVC several times when we went with our children. My DH couldn't get the idea that it was a good value. We went every year for several years. We bought the first time we went alone in 2001. He realizes we still loved it and enjoyed it just as much alone. Of course we have three married children who along with there children have been with us. Also our college age son came with us in November and golfed everyday. He won't go anywhere else with us but he's always ready for Disney. My DH now thinks its the best thing ever. We bought 230 points resale and have added 50 pointa resale.

Our son was 39 and our daughter 37 when we bought at VWL in 2001. We have since added points. Sometimes we invite them along but mostly it is just the two of us. We love DVC.

I didn't see this post until today....so it's a little late. Our kids are 14,12 and 3 and we just added on more points at BWV AND BCV. We just doubled our points becuase when we go now we need a 2 BR and we like to go for a week to make it worth all the packing and travel time. My oldest daughter is graduating from middle school in June and has been begging to go back to WDW since we left last August. We used so many points on that trip we would not have been able to go back for another year....now we can go next April and maybe get in a short trip this summer.

The girls are getting more independent, but that translates into wanting to go downstairs to the pool on their own or the ice cream place at the Beach Club. We can give them a little bit more freedom than we have in the past and I find that it's easier to do that at WDW sometimes than at home!

We also bought more points because we love WDW so much we'd like to share it with family and friends. Once every three year or so we'll able to afford a grand villa or we can go on a cruise. I like the flexibility. And as they get older we could opt to use the points elsewhere or let them go on their own in college (ouch.....I can't believe I'm getting that old and have been married that long!).

Best of luck with your decision.

My kids have been going to WDW since they were 1 &3, they are now young adults. I didn't purchase DVC until BWV opened and by then they were teenagers. We have taken many wonderful trips together and will continue to do so. I also look forward to someday having grandkids to take to WDW. As my kids have gotten older their trips to WDW now average 1 a year while I go an additional 3 times with friends. I love going to WDW, it truely is a vacation destination that offers everything from theme parks to great dining, gorgeous resorts, shopping, clubs, etc. I love taking WDW trips with my children but I enjoy trips without them just as much, I never bought my DVC membership for them, it was always for me. I love going to WDW and a DVC membership has afforded me the opportunity to not only take more trips per year but also stay in some of the best resort accomendations WDW has to offer. Nope my points were never bought with the thought that they were for the kids, I knew I would be the one using them all up! LOL Matter of fact, I just added on another 100 pts at BWV and I'll have no trouble using those up every year either, with or without kids! LOL

We joined Dvc in 2000 and have never regretted it. Our children are all grown with families of their own. We are going this summer as a family trip. ( a group of 14). Our Granddaughter who is 4 thinks this is her house at Mickeys and that it is her home. She has been there 3 trips already. we have added on thru diney and thru resale. I am now trying to convince Dh that we need more points added at the BW, But I think I may need some pixie dust.
