During our last trip to WDW in October, 2007, my then three year old son came down with a double ear infection and the croup. We were staying at the Dolphin (that place is laid out like an insane asylum) and the front desk arranged for a shuttle to come pick us up and take us to the local "clinic." Yikes. The doctor was horrible and it was freak show walking in and out of there. Needless to say, we will preface all of our trips with a visit to our pediatrician. We had to cut our trip short by three days. It cost and extra $300 to change flights but my son felt much better going home. I told this story to a friend at work who suggested that I use the ER at the Magic Kingdom next time. I didn't even know it existed, but according to her, a full blown trauma center is hidden behind a tiny first aid sign entrance near City Hall at the MK. Has anyone ever used it? If so, how was it? This woman at work raved about it.

Never heard of it, but in all honesty I can't imagine being able to take someone who is sick to an ER at the Magic Kingdom. My guess is it may be there if a guest in the park requires it, but to just take someone who's sick there? Seems odd...

Not to mention...how would you be able to use it 'after hours'?

The first aid station at MK is set up to handle non-life threatening situations. In the case of a emergency situation, paramedics are called.

The first aid station is not really set up to handle illnesses other than to tide a person over long enough for them to exit the park and go to another facility. They are there more for minor accidents or interim treatment.

If you are ever again in need of a doctor for your child while visiting WDW, I recommend After Hours Pediatrics. It is at the corner of Sand Lake Road and Dr. Phillips. If you don't have a car, you will have to use a cab to get there, but it would be worth it. I can't recommend the doctors there enough. I live in the area and it is where I take my own DD. In fact, I'm very sad. DD will turn 21 next March and I will no longer be able to take her there.

This has been a while but when my daughter was little she ended up with a double ear infection while at WDW. We were staying at the Polynesian and were told that there was a house Dr. that would come out and check her. What a waste of time. He told us to take her to the ER. We ended up spending the morning at a hospital ER in the area of Sand Lake Road.

When we were in Disney in Aug 07 my son had a really bad rash on the back of his leg. It was blistering and looked really bad. We brought him to the clinic and they told me (after waiting about 5 hours) that he had an allergic reaction to detergent that they use to wash the sheets at disney resorts. They gave him some medication and we went on our way after spending over $300 on the medication and the visit. We went home 2 days later as it was getting worse and went right to our pediatrician. My son had a huge staph infection!!! My pediatrician was so mad, she said that if we didn't come home she is afraid of what might have happened. We go to disney again next month, hopefully he stays healthy!!!

Before moving to Florida, DD became ill on one of our WDW vacations. She had been vomiting for a long time. I took her to the Centra-Care on CR-535 across from The Crossroads. We waited a long time to be seen. Once inside, the doctor examined her and decided DD had appendicitis. I knew she didn't. I was positive. The doctor insisted that we call an ambulance to take DD to Celebration Hospital. I refused the ambulance. I said I would drive her to the hospital myself. The doctor was really bent out of shape that I wouldn't use the ambulance.

When we got to Celebration, the ER doctor examined DD and said she just had a form of gastritis. He put her on an IV to hydrate her and gave her something to stop the vomiting. The released her a couple of hours later. We went back to the hotel and DD slept the rest of the day and night. The next day, we were able to do one of the parks slowly.

The doctor at Centra-Care didn't have a clue. That is why we started using After Hours Pediatrics. The doctors there are very good.

Thanks for the advice. I will definintely keep them in mind if I ever need them again!!!

Just a sort of OT addition: if you are sending your kids off on any vacation with their grandparents or friends; please include a "permission for medical treatment" statement with them.

I was in our local Urgent Care Clinic with my husband a couple of weeks ago (WDW locals here) and a grandfather could not have his little girl treated by law. It was very sad and frustrating for both him and the staff.

About 10 years ago when my DD was only 2 years old she woke up in the middle of the night running 103.5 degrees. My DH didn't take this trip with us...I was with my DM. I called the front desk at the CBR and they had a doctor at my door within 30 minutes. He diagnosed her with a double ear infection and called her perscription into Walgreens. Within 3-4 hours the perscription was in our hands after being delivered to the hotel. That's why I stay at Disney. Also, since my mom could not be around anyone who was sick, they accomodated us with a different room for a day or two (of course we paid for it), and sent a stuffed toy to my daughter the next morning. Disney turned a very challenging problem into a relaxing day at the hotel.

Celebrations Hospital is right down the road from Disney and we used it when our 1 yr old got an ear infection on our last trip. Kicker was...I had taken him to our pediatrician two days earlier because I suspected he was getting one. She told me I was paranoid. Needless to say....she's no longer our doctor.
The hosptial was wonderful and we were in and out in less than an hour. The bill was close to $300, but well worth the comfort of knowing he was on the road to recovery. I've only heard bad things about the clinic.
