Kids Shipboard Freedom

ok i'm a lil late on posting but no big deal. my parents gave me and my twin free roaming and we could be together or seperate(we are 16) well we ended up being seperate the whole time. i went to common grounds alot and walked with friends. since my parents didn't care if i came to dinner or not somedays they wouldn't see me at all because we were in separate rooms. my parents had to actually ask my older brother if i had come in last night. because of many teen activities going on i was usually gone from 11am till 2am and i would grab a bite to eat at plutos or something but my parents figured i was old enough to take care of myself. btw we did not have any walkie talkies we had cell phones but they stopped working.
now that i say i was allowed to go places on my own i also have a 10 yr. old sister who was allowed to sign herself out of the club and she was alound to go places on the ship on her own aslong as she told my parents where she was going and came back right after. my sister basically stayed by my parents the whole time but there was a few times i ran into her by herself at the stores or getting ice cream but there were very rare times of this because she stayed pretty close to my parents.

Ok so not everyone can be trusted but there are ppl everywhere. But even though i trust them i guess i don't trust everyone else so if they were 9 or 10 i would think twice about letting them go off on there own. They would have to stay together and check -in alot......Now that they are 13 and 16 i'm not as worried and don't mind if they do as long as they check in(still) with there walkie talkies. :D

My sons are 12(just turned) and 13. I am a very protective mom and still drive them to school every day, 2 blocks away. They are very responsible and wonderful kids but I guess I just don't trust the rest of the world. On our cruise last week I let the 12 year old sign in and out of the club himself and the 13 year old didn't have to sign out because he was in the teen group. We also travelled with other families so there were a total of 8 kids, ages 11-15. We parents decided to let the kids have total freedom BUT they had to be with at least one other kid at all times and we had check-in times with the parents to discuss bedtimes, family event times etc. We let them stay up late every night but they knew that they would be woken up in the morning for certain things and if they were tired it had been their choice to stay up late. All 8 kids were awesome!!! They were always on time to check in and they behaved wonderfully. After I got over the separation anxiety the first day or so I saw that it was great for the kids to have the freedom and the responsibility that goes along with it!!! We were proud of them and they were proud of themselves!! And boy did they enjoy ordering roomservice by themselves!
