Hello! We are a month out from our first Disney Cruise and so excited! Question about dinner. My kids are 5 and 8 and I'm curious if they will be allowed to order items from the adult menu if they wish at our dinners? I'm sure for the most they'll stick to the standard Chicken Fingers/Mac&Cheese diet that they have at home but some nights there may be apps or entrees that they would enjoy from the adult menu.

My children have (unfortunately) very pedestrian tastes. We always order one appetizer (or entree) off the adult menu for them to experiment with, in addition to the food they wish to eat. Most often they don't appreciate it, but we use it as an opportunity to expose them to new dishes.

(I am reluctant to do it at restaurants on land, because ordering meals with a low probability of success can get expensive fast!!)

Yes they definitely can. I strongly encouraged my daughter to order the escargot. She did and felt fancy ordering it and then did try one. Didn't love it and then I got two plates of them. :)

Kids can order whatever they want. Adults can order off kids menu. The servers will be happy to get whatever anyone wants

My kids are the opposite, and would take salmon and escargot over chicken nuggets any day. They had no problem ordering from the adult menu, and after the first night the servers didn't even bring them a kids menu.

They absolutely can - and conversely, you can order off the kids' menu if you want. (One of the nights I didn't care much for the adult soup/salad offerings, but the kids' menu had a delicious sounding potato and... carrot? I think? soup, so I ordered that instead. :)) Our kiddo usually did something from each between starters/mains/desserts, as per what they were interested in that day. Unfortunately, they did NOT like the mac 'n cheese, so their usual go-to was a no-go.

My son just learned we are sailing in a few weeks. The first thing he mentioned was the dishes he planned to eat :

- Escargots (every night !)
- Black truffle pasta
- Ahi tuna tower
- The fish (every night !)
- The chocolate dessert (every night !)

His main problem with DCL is that he can’t use his free Palo brunch even if he is Platinum. In 11 cruises, only once he chose to order from the kids menu and said ‘Never again’ ! That meatloaf was bad.

I REALLY hope that on the new ship, they allow kids in at least one of the upcharge brunches, or at least have some kid-friendly time slots and others adult only.

Yes and you can also ask for items to be modified. Several nights they had a pork tenderloin on the menu and we just asked for the meat with none of the sauces. The kids menu is rather repetitive and not very healthy.

we have ordered for our child off of ADULT MENU as the CHILD MENU disappointed our little snob :-)

You can even mix and match. Some from kids menu and some from adults. We like to order the garden salad off the kid's menu sometimes. They are very flexible.

Yes!!! And the bigger kids (adults) can order off of the children's menu.

This is one area that DCL surpasses WDW (food choices for everyone).

There are no limitations imposed by DCL. I have never allowed my kids to ever order off of the kids’ menu, so our servers very quickly acquiesced and never tried to offer them to our kids again.

Our kids order whatever they feel like. My teenager got the chicken breast several times with the fries from the kids' menu. My then four-year-old got the soup off the adult menu pretty much every night.

My 10 year old daughter loves to order off the adult menu. Especially on prime rib night. The waiter is always impressed when she orders it medium rare without prompting. Haha!

I was told by our server on our cruise in August that the are able to get the kids menu items out quicker. The meat was horribly overcooked on the kids menu so our server got my son a steak off the adult menu - but it took a bit longer. He was much happier. After that we mixed and matched off the two menus - no problem. Mickey bars are not on the menu but my son got one every night for dessert.

My daughter orders salmon off the adult menu every night (with a side of fries from the kids menu). On our WBTA, after 10 days, I was kind of done with all of the heavy food and what seemed to be a lack of variety, so I ordered a corn dog off the kids menu. I was ready to get home to home cooking. We almost never eat out and while I usually enjoy it on my cruises, 10 days became a bit much of eating out every meal.

When we did our first Disney Cruise, my DD was 6 and it was our server on the first night gave her both the children and adult menus. He also informed us to enjoy what ever we wanted on the menus and if you can not settle on one item, order several. They made it a real Dream. As a matter of fact, if we did not order at least one from each category, he brought us something from the missed category.

Thanks for all the responses!! I'm happy to hear that they'll basically let you order whatever, my kids will be pretty pumped about that! February 14th cannot come soon enough!!
