How many days of school have your kids missed for a cruise and how old/what grade??

How many days of school have your kids missed for a cruise and how old/what grade??

Our DD8 (now) has missed 1 week of school for the past 4 years... We've always sailed DCL during (Canadian) spring break and then we usually stay in FL or LA a week before or after... she misses 1 week and of course her teachers are never happy but oh well..

In 2015 (ceteris paribus) we're doing the TA in September and she will miss 2-3 weeks of school... :scared1:
We are busy planning a scheme to come up with to present to her school so she's allowed to miss that much... We'll see how it goes..

How long are you planning on having your kid(s) miss school?

We travel on 2-3 Disney Cruises a year , we usually miss anywhere between 1-14 days of school depending on the length of the cruise. thease trips were done between K-3rd grade. the next few years will have to be less cruising unless I can get Disney to schedule there itinerarys to match up with our schools schedule, LOL. Our school requires that the kids and Parents sign a contract for school work while gone. (its more for the school to get there money)
But I believe travel is a great learning experianace.

DD missed 1 week for a Caribbean cruise and 2 and a half weeks for a med cruise in 2nd grade. That was probably our biggest offender.

She missed 3 days in 3rd grade and 2 weeks in 4th grade for a Panama Canal.

Now that she's in middle school, I wouldn't dare missing more than a couple of day!:(

My 8th grader and Senior will miss the 1st day back after Christmas break next year.

My 2 boys (5th & 6th grade) missed 5 days this past school year for our cruise. Both principals were onboard with it and it was the week AFTER testing with only 3 weeks of school left. Testing decides whether they pass or fail and that was done so we felt okay about it. We plan to do the same thing in 2015.

This past year, mine missed a week for a trip to New York City and then 3 more days at another time during the year for Disneyland. Even though the teacher was OK with it, we still got a warning from the truancy police! Even for the one in Pre-K!

Next year, they will miss 3 days for a cruise, and will likely miss a few more in the spring for vacation. They will be in Kindergarten and Third grade then.

Each year so far I evaluate how they are doing and decide whether or not it's OK to miss.

I am contemplating this as well. My DS will start Kindergarden next year which will cause a problem with us cruising in Jan.....We are in Texas which I hear is pretty strict about attendance.

My son missed 4 days for a cruise he's in 3rd grade this November will be 5 days but he's good in school and has no other absences during the rest of the year from 3yrs-8yrs never missed a day of school so he's good!!!!

Our kids miss at least one week every year. This year it will be 3 days for WDW (Wednesday thru Friday) then leave on 7 day cruise on Saturday!

My DD was in 2nd grade and 3rd grade when we took her out 1 day before her spring break to make our Caribbean cruises. I wouldn't even think of taking her out of school now that is she starting high school.

We've never pulled our kids out of school for a vacation. As an educator, my wife will never do that, plus she teaches in the same district as the kids attend and absolutely loathes when she has to have a sub, not to mention they have 2/3 weeks off in October, December, and March because it's a year round district.

I am booked on the Magic in October for a back to back and my twins would miss six days of school!!

5-6 days each school year. We've done it 4 years now. We will stop in 2 years, when my oldest goes off to middle school. :(

First cruise my kids were in 1st and 3rd, missed 3 half days. Second cruise was a week long and the kids missed 1 full day (a Friday because we travel from the west coast) and 3 half days, Monday and Friday were school holidays. This past fall the kids missed 1 day and 1 half day. We always look at the calendar and look for those strange weeks with teacher work days or parent conferences. Those days also tend to be off season cruises.

My daughter missed a week this year (kindergarten) and will miss two weeks in February. I'm a teacher so I'll make sure all her work is done. I'm very lucky to be able to take time off mysf!!

We try to cruise over school breaks and then tack on some days on land to extend the trip. We limit it to 2-3 days missed per trip. Figure we will be even more restricted once they start middle school / high school so might as well pull them out for some longer trips now while we can.

DDs miss at least one week of school each year for vacation - this year, they were out for almost two weeks.

My kids have missed school to cruise or go to WDW every year. I admit it gets harder every year. This year, my DS-4th grade and DD-2nd grade missed 4 days in a row in the fall and 1 or 2 days in a row in the Spring . I try to plan around days that they might already have off for teacher workdays. Last year they missed 8 days in a row. Teachers have been okay with it as long as they make up the work. I do have the kids work on homework while we are on vacay. Have fun!
