I just read in another post that older kids can order off of the kids menu but would be charged double. Now, my question is, what age child? My ds12 is being charged an adult for the AYCE and buffets but if he orders off of the child's menu, what will he be charged in the TS restaurants??

Wow, this is new info for me. I must have missed this anouncement. My DD age 13 has always ordered off the kids menu and never been charged double. We were just there in Nov. This must be another of those great changes that are going to cost me MORE!!
Is this new for all of sit downs?

Okay, I've called 3 different times to get an answer on this. And 3 different times, I've gotten confused CMs who read the script and then transferred me to a manager. The concensus of 2 of the 3 managers (#2 just said, "Wow, I don't know... that is confusing, isn't it???") is that, according to the new policy, children over the age of 9 will be charged adult price, not the child's price. Whether or not the child is even allowed to order off of the children's menu at an ala carte restaurant is up to the discretion of the individual restaurant. If they are allowed to eat off the child's menu, it will be at the "adult price". What this adult price is, will be "determined by the individual restaurant", although that restaurant has the right to waive the adult pricing.

Clear as mud, huh???

So when you make your AR's 90 days in advance can they tell you what price you will be paying? Probably not. And we have about a month for our 90 days out, so you know there won't be any answers by then.

So does that mean my DS11 can order the kids mac and cheese for $ 5.99 and be charged for a $ 25.00 filet? Or with a different server in the same restaurant, be charged $ 5.99? Or not allowed to eat it?

Sounds about right.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Any questions???

Thanks HookdonWDW, I appreciate your answers. Don't like them, but I appreciate it. :rotfl:

I guess the only answer is to get the dining plan, and then they can only charge one TS meal no matter what it is.

But if they still refuse to serve an 11 year old ADULT a child's meal, that still leaves DS unhappy with the food.

Of course, now here come the flames. We've been going every November for the past six years. So this year when I call for room ressies, the CM says "and Dh and J will be going, too?" I said yes, and left it at that. No other questions. When I called to get prices for adding tix and dining, the CM said "2 adults and a 7 year old." I didn't correct her, but somehow someone must have carried over the wrong year/changed something because we've never lied about his age and he'll be 11 in August.

We decided that dining would not be a good idea, too much food for all of us, we never eat appies and a large dessert. DS wouldn't eat enough at non-buffets to justify the price, charged as an adult but eating a kid's meal. Now, I just don't know what to do. Maybe try to ressies at Universal?

What really bothers me about this policy is that some of the children's portions are MINISCULE!! There were a couple of times when my 4 yo (who is NOT a big eater) did not get enough to eat. This is not consistent, though. His child's chicken paremsan at MM was more than enough to share with his 2.5 yo ds. Still, it wasn't large enough to be worth the double the price!!!!! I think the prices should be indicative of the size rather than tied to an age.
