Day 2 - June 2nd
Today we were up early to head over to the Magic Kingdom. We grabbed poptarts and granola bars from our suitcase, bought juice and mild at Roaring Forks, and ate breakfast on the dock waiting for the first boat to the park. The kids could hardly sit still once the boat arrived and the first glimpses of Cinderellas castle and Space Mtn came into view. We cleared security about 8:40 am and waited with the crowd for the gates to open. Alice was outside the gates this morning, and my DD got her first autograph and character picture!
The gates opened pretty close to 9:00 and we walked in watching our childrens magical facial expressions. I thought I was going to have to pick up their tongues to keep others from stepping on them! We walked up Main Street pretty slowly taking it in, and when we got to the castle guess who walks out to greet us? Mickey AND Minnie! We were only about 3rd in line too. I figured at this point everything else to my two kids would be icing on the cake.
We next did Dumbo and Pooh before rope drop at Toontown. While waiting for the rope drop the kids got to meet Pooh & Tigger. Since we had already met Mickey and Minnie, we skipped their houses and went to the character meeting area (the name escapes me now) where the kids got to meet Cinderella, Suzy, Perla, Chip & Dale, and Minnie (again). My DS was now begging for something a bit more thrilling, so we walked over to the Barnstormer. The kids and I both loved this ride, so we rode it again! Departing Toontown, we marched the kids up to Tomorrowland where my DS had a date with destiny in the Gamma Quadrant!
Buzz had about an hour wait by this time, so we grabbed our first Fastpasses of the trip. The kids wanted to do the speedway while we waited, so off we went. We pretty much let them set the pace and pick the rides on this whole day. The speedway is not that fun, even for most 6 year-olds, so Im sure we wont do this ride again whenever we make it back. But, it did kill the time needed for Buzz, which my DS LOVED!!! DD was a bit afraid of the dark, but not too bad.
Lunchtime was upon us, and Cosmic Rays was handy and air-conditioned! Plus they have good food. The music kept DD entertained while daddy (me) waited in line. The kids now had budding confidence, so we were off to BTMRR!!! They measured my DD twice (she is 40-1/4 tall). The children loved this ride. My DS was starting to put his hands in the air by the end of the ride! This would end up being their favorite ride of the whole trip! We actually got Fastpasses for this ride and did Pirates while we waited. This ride scared the hooeee out of DS and DD. Well, it actually was the queue and ghostly voice that scared them. Once we got to the pirates themselves they were ok and liked it.
It was now mid-afternoon, and with a great ride on BTMRR behind us, we headed for our room. We also had to check in with my brother-in-law, whose family was arriving at Fort Wilderness today. Turned out they had had some trailer problems and were running quite a bit behind schedule, so we agreed to just meet them before our Cinderella breakfast (for all 8 of us) the next morning. The kids rested for a couple of hours and we headed over to MGM for dinner.
The parade was starting, so we cut across to the backside of the park to head down to Toy Story Pizza Planet. On the way, we met Eeyore and Pooh (2nd time for pooh), and then stumbled across Sorceror Mickey! He was in a small room with a queue for pictures. The sign said he was supposed to have gone in at 5:30 pm, but it was now 5:45 and there was practically no line! This was one of my DSs favorite character meetings. Dinner was ok, nothing to write home about. Kids had cheese pizza, and DW and I shared a salad and pepperoni pizza. (remember, we are on weight watchers so we tried to share things) After dinner DS and I walked on Star Tours. At 6 years old, he has now become a Star Wars addict, and we had seen Episode II the week prior to the trip! I was learning that my son is a daredevil and adrenaline freak like his dad!
Anyway, off to the hotel for an early bedtime since we had Cinderellas Royal Table breakfast at 8:25 the next morning with our arriving family at Fort Wilderness.
