Kids eating in OC?

I understand that meal times work in OC as in they just set food out and if a kid wants to come eat, they go sit down and eat. But I have some questions.

Can the parents find out ahead of time what the meals will be?

How can you ensure your child will eat or has eaten? I have a picky 4yo and an 11yo with SN who may just choose not to eat.

How did you all handle this with your kids. Did you go get them and then go eat as a family then take them back?

Did you ever get to eat alone as adults and the kids ate there?

I would never make a child eat in the clubs. I saw what was offered for lunch one day and made sure I picked up my niece in time for meals. We always took them to dinner with us. The oldest one didn't like going to the club/lab.

I would either order from room service, go up to the pool deck or the buffet for a quick meal for your children. They really will enjoy that food more than what is served in the club/lab.

Meal times are advertised in the navigator. You can take them out of programming at that time. My son who was fussy eat Speggitti and chicken as well as pizza they do not inform parents in advance but know allergies. If the child doesn't like what is on offer they normally find what that child likes and make it for them.

The CMs will not force the kids to eat. It would be best to get them something to eat from the pool deck or room service before taking them to the club.

My kids did not want to eat there. I picked them up for lunch once and saw what was being served.

Cheese Sandwich and a bowl of fruit.

I don't blame my kids for not wanting to eat there.

If you want to be sure your kids eat, it's best to take them for meals with you -- whether that's Cabanas, the MDRs, pool deck or room service. Whatever works best for your situation. Otherwise, I honestly wouldn't count on the Club/Lab staff to ensure the kids eat a good meal. You could return hours later to find them starving, because once the food is served and mealtime done, no more food is served.

Enjoy your cruise!

The counselors' job is not to make the kids eat. If they put the food out and a child chooses not to eat it, that child doesn't eat. It's on the parents to make certain they eat a meal, so if you think your kids won't eat under those circumstances, it's better for you to feed them. You could take them up on deck for fast food (if there's something up there you don't mind your kids eating) or order room service before taking them to the club if you want a kidless meal to yourselves and also want to be sure your kids have eaten.

I would strongly recommend not having your kids eat in the club. The food is not that great AND they don't do a good job about letting the kids know it's time to eat. We had our kids in there for 2 meal times and they didn't eat. They didn't even know there was food served.

I made that mistake last time but I will not depend on meals in the club next time.

Thanks everyone! I think we'll definitely plan on take them out for meal times.

We had a great experience on the Wonder with our kids and their cousins eating dinner in the club the night the adults went to Palo. The kids ranged in age from 3-8. I was pleasantly surprised because I was not sure how it would go. We will definitely be doing it again next time.

My daughter had Lunch at Flounders one day. I have no idea how the food was, but three years later she still remembers that Stitch stopped by, stole her lunch! Good times!
