I was gone from this thread for a while, since we had completed our trip, I thought "what's the point" ...I actually found myself going through some type of withdraw...NO more planing, No more looking for that perfect outfit, etc:sad: .

Then just days ago, I started asking my family (4 sisters, mom, 2 nieces) if we COULD, would they want to try to visit DW next year (January 09) EVERYONE was in, I booked our Magical Gathering this morning. YAY, I feel revived, I am planning the whole trip and will be needing matching outfits, for everyday, for each of the three 5 year old girls. CAN'T WAIT! :rotfl: :rotfl: So I am back, for ideas and inspiration.

DOODLESMOMMY---I love these outfits. Can you give us a clue who made them for you? Local? or ebay?
Everytime I think I have seen the cutest thing ever, new ones pop up, that I MUST HAVE!!:lmao: :rolleyes1

I really would like to try my hand at sewing my own outifts, I do have a sewing machine but have only made curtains...probably will just stick with the professionals though. GLAD TO BE BACK! THE ADDICTION AND A REASON TO LIVE HAS RETURNED!

GLAD TO HAVE YOU BACK!!!!!!!!
You have plenty of time to plan and sew outfits. Many people here started just a few months before they went and had awesome outfits!
Lori

I need to be sewing, but you would not believe the carrots dh & the girls just pulled out of the garden. Back when we should have had carrots they were all puny little shrivled things & I figured that we just wouldn't have any this year. He just bruoght in 4 HUGE carrots & said there more still out there. I can't believe they've survived the cold. :confused3
Pictures???

I'm wondering if Aunt Penny would look at it for me. Henry said it couldn't hurt to ask, but I'm thinking that depends on her mood!
When the timing was off on my machine, I told Mom that I was going to ask Aunt Penny about it, and Mom said that Penny got rid of all her sewing machine repair tools, and not to ask her. I still think you should ask your sister if she has an extra machine in her basement that she picked up really cheap at Walmart.

And my BABY turned 4. He told me he wasn't my baby anymore :sad1:.
Beautiful outfit! I had a difficult time last month when Lydia turned 5. Although, she tells EVERYONE that she is now and will always be Momma's Little Sunshine Baby. For now anyways. ;)

I would never tug on anything! You could break your machine that way! :rolleyes1
Yeah, geesh, that will throw the timing off for sure! Gosh! Just for fun, take it to Mr. J's!

It was bittersweet when Tessa turned 4. It sounds so much older than 3!
Just over two months until she is 5. :sad2:
If anyone wants to see more videos of cute disboutiquer kids, go to
http://www.expotv.com/search?query=britax+regent+car+seat&type=videos.
The 3 reviews of the Britax Regent car seat are all by disboutiquers (me, Teresa, and jessica52877). You can see Tessa in true form making stupid faces while I talk! You can also see cute little Dallas and my cute big sister. If you do a search for Britax Boulevard, you can see Sawyer! We all have other reviews on there with our kids in 'em.
Aww, you said i was cute!

Hey, you have an Aunt Penny? My sister's name is Penny!
My kids have an Aunt Penny too! They are EVERYWHERE! (Actually, my kid's Aunt Penny (one of my SILs)is really named Constance, but everyone always called her Penny, go figure.)

Great footage, I'm lovin' all the mini movies! Did you have to keep turning the camera off from laughing at Tessa? She looked like she was in a foreign film that had been dubbed over! lol!

TeresaJoy's always make me laugh also. She's sitting in the car seat! Baaahaa! Than she does the super model flip of the hair & exclaims "look how easy this is to install"! Classic Price Is Right style, minus the breathless giggles as she can't get the thing installed! He he!
I like you! You are very much like Heather and I, I can tell!

Yes, I had to keep stopping because she was crackying me up.

Teresa makes better reviews than I do. She always makes me laugh in hers!
Hey, who said I'm trying to be funny????:snooty:

I do what I can for the public good, even if it means sitting in carseats, and almost blinding myself by ridding the world of a horrible movie!

Okay shameless post to get to 400!

YEAH!!!

This post has become my latest addiction. :scared: I logged on a week ago to take a look and now I'm finding myself checking in daily. I thought I'd share some of my favorite customs that Avery wore to DW & our cruise last March.

heheheheh, ooooh, we've got her now girls! (and Tom)

Thanks! Let's see if this works......

Beautiful dress and daughter!!! Cute doggie too!

Ok, this is weird, since we switched to this server, I keep missing posts! I usually reply before I sign off on the thread, and after my post shows up, I always check to see if anyone else posted while I was posting. But, when i sign back on and start reading , inevitably, there will be a reply to a post or two that I NEVER saw! So, I backtrack, and realize that there are like two or three posts before my last post that I SWEAR were not there before! This is weird!

Who said you can only have one BFF? :rotfl: :grouphug: I  you all! Now get over here and help me sew, only 4 days left!:scared1:
I would love to come over and help you sew , my kids are all off track and i am afraid it would cause more havoc than anything else:headache: what do you still have to sew? i love your jedi luke t-shirt. We all had those shirts on our trip and got alot of attention..
Go Jhammy , Go you can sew it, you can sew it all night long:rotfl:

here are the ones I made for dd for our trip last summer
th_prinminnie.jpg

th_emprinstank.jpg

they were a last min idea LOL now I have till sept to make her some new ones, I was planning on doing more minnie's w/ different colors... and doing more princess stuff SIL has an embroidery machine, they were just basic tank from Old Navy, and I paired them w/ knit shorts from gymbo.
those are really cute outfits and i love the glasses, How cute are those

I would suggest what everyone else has about taking the bobbin case out and playing with it. Tessa was too cute, especially calling out to the Disboutiquers.

The white with red dots is a Michael Miller fabric, available at quilt stores. I have a 4 x 40 inch strip if you would like it.

Here is the Valentine's outfit for DD6 (still have to make DD8). I only changed fabric 3 times (not a good idea when you're using the quilt shop fabric).

I made her jewlery and hairbows & clips......I leave the sewing up to the professionals :goodvibes I'm such a sucker for custom clothes. I told myself I wouldn't do it on this next trip and I've already ruined it. I think she has a new outfit for almost every day of our trip....again. What's wrong with me???:rotfl:

Wow what adorable outfits and your DD is just beautiful!!! We are all "suckers", maybe even cheap suckers since we make the stuff ourselves:rotfl: :rotfl: (no offense anyone,...just kidding!). Actually some of these customs just take hours of work so no wonder they are $100-$200 each! But anyways, welcome to our addiction! :surfweb:

My kids have an Aunt Penny too! They are EVERYWHERE! (Actually, my kid's Aunt Penny (one of my SILs)is really named Constance, but everyone always called her Penny, go figure.)

Our Aunt Penny is actually Penelope. The teachers had a time pronouncing her name in school. Her full name is Penelope Jane, so I tried to call her PJ, but she didn't like that at all! :snooty:

[I upload my pictures to photobucket. Then, I copy the box that says and paste it into my post. HTH!

Heather and my Aunt Penny's name is Penelope too. I have NO idea what her middle name is though!

Now, why wouldn't someone want to be called PJ? PJs are warm and snuggly!

My friend had a horse named PJ once.....

We are all suckers around here! Some of us for buying the customs, some of us for spending way too much time and money on making them ourselves! Do you have a sewing machine? You should try your hand at making something simple, like a little elastic waist skirt or something. I didn't think I could sew anything but curtains when I came onto this thread back in July. But, now I'm cruising along.

Aw, what a sweet serenade! It'll be Arminda's 10th birthday when we're at Disney. I love the matching shirts and the pixie dust is too cute! You have us beat with 18 people over our 15. I guess I need to get some more kids before the trip! ;)

I really would like to try my hand at sewing my own outifts, I do have a sewing machine but have only made curtains...probably will just stick with the professionals though. GLAD TO BE BACK! THE ADDICTION AND A REASON TO LIVE HAS RETURNED!
:woohoo: Glad to have you back!! Such great news about the big '09 vacation!!! Now, you really need to try sewing something!! :woohoo: If you can make curtains (which is all I ever thought I could do), you can make a simple elastic waist skirt. Just get some cheap fabric and try it!!

A) When the timing was off on my machine, I told Mom that I was going to ask Aunt Penny about it, and Mom said that Penny got rid of all her sewing machine repair tools, and not to ask her. G) Congratulations on your next trip!!! YEAH!! And, thank GOODNESS you now have a reason to live!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

A)Heyyyyy.....do you have a machine sitting in your basement that you'd let your sister use?????? I would really, really, really, love to borrow it until I can get the situation with my good 'ol Singer girl resolved!!!

B) Aw, she's so sweet! Tessa just outgrew the shirt I made her that said "Mommy's Little Sunshine Girl". It broke my heart. :sad2:

C) In my defense, if I didn't tug on it at all, my beautiful Cinderella dress would have been forever trapped in the sewing machine. It was REALLY stuck! Also, I was using upholstery thread in the bobbin to gather the sides up (thanks Tom! :rotfl: ).

D) You had to remind me? For some reason 5 isn't bothering me as much as 4. Maybe because I started kintergarden at 4 and that sounded so old to me!

E)Well, yeah!

F) Did you know I would count the people to see who "won", too?

G) Did you know this would make me think of Grandma?

WELCOME~~~ congrats on your trip! :dance3: :cheer2:
No offense, I'm a cheap sucker!! Although, I don't think it's much cheaper to make some of this ourselves- by the time we buy the supplies!! If we factor in our time, we're probably in the hole! Since I started sewing, I don't know how some of the people on Voldemort (I haven't used the "code" in a while, I was missing it) sell their stuff so cheap!

Our Aunt Penny is actually Penelope. The teachers had a time pronouncing her name in school. Her full name is Penelope Jane, so I tried to call her PJ, but she didn't like that at all! :snooty:

Tessa's middle name is Jane! She's named after Teresa (Tessa) and Henry's high school teacher (Nancy Jane), who is still a dear friend. I feel like we're playing 6 degrees of seperation.

Heather and my Aunt Penny's name is Penelope too. I have NO idea what her middle name is though!

Now, why wouldn't someone want to be called PJ? PJs are warm and snuggly!

My friend had a horse named PJ once.....

PJ was a good 'ol horse!

You know, someone once told me that Tessa was a dog's name when I was pregnant with her. The woman had a daughter named Claire. I didn't think of it at the time, but I should have said "Claire is a fat girl's name. She's skinny now, but I could see her pushing maximum density." I actually love the name Claire, but that would have been a great opportunity to show that woman how rude she was being and to semi-quote my favorite movie all at the same time.

Somehow I lost my only quote? How does this stuff happen? Anyway,

Doodlesmommy, I love your little ones outfits! They are so cute! Your daughter is beautiful and looks like she's having the time of her life!

Teresajoy, how do you like your serger that you got for such a steal? I have a couple of stripwork jumpers planned for our upcoming trip and I figure a serger would take a lot less work than sewing all of those strips together (since I don't have a serger I zig-zag around every piece of fabric before I sew it together, then I sew it, then I zig-zag them together again - three steps!). I am seriously contemplating buying one but I wondered what you thought of it. My neighbor got a Huskylock (spelling?) serger for Christmas and I know that is more than I was thinking of spending but she hasn't tried it yet, she is waiting to go to a class. I had originally asked for a serger for Christmas but my morning sickness was so bad that I told my husband to forget about it since at that time I had no motivation to sew, of course now that has changed! How long will it take me to figure out how to thread it and use it? Any help is so appreciated on this!

Those shirts are too cute - each with a different character. How did you do that? Did you make them or buy them?

I actually wonder about this too! I know how much I spend on elastic, elastic thread, thread, fabric, and my time has to be worth something and I totally wonder how people can sell things for so cheap! I guess maybe they are just starting out and hoping to gain a following/reputation? I do understand that but I don't think I would keep doing it if I wasn't making any money. On the flip side of that, I said earlier that I watch a seller whose name has the same name as a famous painting (pm me if you want to know who I am talking about or just look under custom clothes and sort by highest prices) and I seriously question the sanity of a person spending $500 for an outfit for a child (or for me actually) who will undoubtably spill something on it and outgrow it in a year! I know that when people resell her things though they usually make a good chunk of that back, but my DH would kill me! Plus I would be terrified every time they wore it that it would get stained. Actually I'm probably just jealous since I would love to buy something from her for my girls but like I said a couple of days ago, money is tight around here and prices just seem to keep going up! I heard last night on the news that they are expecting gas to hit $4.00 a gallon by this summer    ! I guess I'll be walking? On this money question......how many of you when you go to WDW get the park hopper passes? I am trying to minimize our expenses on this trip and I am thinking of skipping the park hopper passes which we have always had in the past. Any opinions on this would be appreciated!

1) Thanks, now she will never let me call her PJ now! I had a pony named Shamrock and a horse named Buddy.

2) When I met my future husband, he sat me down and gently explained that most college students did not spend their weekends drinking cheap wine coolers and watching The Breakfast Club and The Princess Bride over and over. He tried to gradually insert me back into society, but met much resistance.

Whenever I make something for someone, I have no idea what to charge. I am usually using leftovers from fabric I bought for Megan, but then I run out and have to buy a smidge more, and then the elastic and thread. My husband asks if I make money sewing, and I actually have no idea! I am just hoping to break even at this point. Maybe someone more experienced can give us advice!

Hi all,

I have been lurking since this board started. I love all the outfits you all have created. I just started sewing again in April of this year. (Sewed as a child then quit - picking it up again at 31 is not easy!;) ) I have a wonderful little one who I love to dress up- Lily Kate 1 year. I am in awe of you all. Can I join the group? Please Please pretty please!!!:flower3:

When I sell on :wizard: I frequently start my auctions low, but I still make money on my supplies. Now, you've all seen my stash, but I buy a lot of estate sales and "store going out of business" liquidations, so my cost per yard tends to be very low for fabric and trims. I can usually balance this out with items I may need to buy to finish an outfit.

For example, this dress for my DD cost me approximately $.28 in supplies to make:

THe blue and white fabric, I bought by the pound on a roll, each roll still has MOST of the roll left, and I paid $5 for one whole roll and $11 for the other. The stabilizer on the embroidery was a bulk purchase where I got all of the stabilizer of a person who closed their embroidery business for $187 including shipping. (we're talking 100+ things of stabilizer). The thread, I bought a set of 480 threads with a rack, and used not much. The piping was from a bulk estate sale. I get embroidery bobbins by the case, etc etc. The most expensive thing on that dress is the serger thread.

IF I were to sell the blue dress (I'm not, DD spilled juice on it at christmas, can't even re-sell!), I know it took 4 hours including embroidery. I would probably start the dress at $20. That's a little less than $5 an hour for my work. Any increase in bids increases my per-hour intake, but I still make a profit at $20.

The big thing that takes time is applique. I have a sewing machine that can applique up to 6"by15" while I just add on fabric as it's called for. People who applique by hand, it takes a LOT longer, but often, they can have more intricate appliques. Thus, the price goes up. You usually won't see intricate appliqued outfits on :wizard: for less than about $50+.

There are a lot of :wizard: sellers who buy fabric in bulk and/or wholesale, or they are members of fabric co-ops. Some fabric suppliers will give you a deal if you buy a whole bolt, so they don't have to cut the fabric. Some manufacturers will give you the same prices they give smaller quilt shops, if you contact the manufacturer directly and have a wholesale number.

Sorry, this got long winded and preachy, and I didn't mean it to. :(

I hope this helped, even if I sound like a mean text book lady. :(

On the subject of "making money on sewing". When people ask me if I make money sewing, my answer is usually the same. I don't sew to make money. I do sell things but.... I sew because I enjoy it. I sew because I don't agree with dressing a little girl in alot of the "store bought" clothes I see. I sew because I LOVE to hear my daughter say "my Mommie made this"princess: . I sew because I am WAY too cheeap to pay AG prices for "Matching" doll/child sets :scared1:

Annnnnd I sew because 100's of my "best friends" online sew and we would have NOTHING (:lmao: ) to talk about here if we didn't sew LOL

Steph, the big thing is to keep track of your expenses. If you have to run out and buy more of X or Y, record how much you spent on it. If you only use half of it, or whatever, keep track.

Then, keep track of how long something takes to make. SOme people include planning time (picking out fabric and patterns, deciding on colors, etc), some don't. It's your call. I usually don't, but I have a friend who does, and it tends to even out.

This was VERY HARD for me to do, as I am the most unorganized, "whatever" sewer around, but with my business, I get audited if I don't have all of my paperwork in order, so I had to learn.

There are ladies here who do a LOT more business than I do, and make MUCH nicer things, so they might have better advice. I would take their's over mine. Most of my advice is experience from my purse making business, as I am only really getting into kids' clothing now.
