Another question for you ladies. I almost have the pillowcase outfit finished for my daughter and have now realized that I don't have the tiny elastic needed for the legs. I could go buy some today but I have 3 kids here and going to the fabric store just isn't an option today!

Does anyone know if I can cut the elastic that I already have into that size or would it ruin it and ravel?

Thanks in advance!

I am tired of ruffling. Besides, I need at some point to find my orange spool of thread and get some sleep. Tomorrow (0r is that today?????) is yet another day to craft to my heart's content. Nite all.

Hello, you up yet?? I want to see what you've been working on!

I don't think I would do that. I think it would come undone. Walmart sells elastic, would that be easier to go to? Sorry I dont' live closer, I'd bring some over to you! :lmao:

I usually lurk more than I reply, but had to comment on the JOJO outfit. I must say I think the color of the JoJo outfit is what's wrong with it. The color isnt right for your daughters skin tone. She makes the outfit cute, but it doesnt do anything for her. Its a one way relationship there!

My youngest daughter is part Asian and those colors wouldnt look good on her either. :scared: The black NBC outfit is a perfect color for her complexion and she is gorgeous in it! :goodvibes

I agree I would have been dissapointed after having bought the NBC outfit. One of the first rules of doing custom work for someone is to keep them in the loop during the design process. She should have sent you a picture of the fabrics for your approval before she made the outfit. :sad2:

I am envious of the outfits you have shown us on here and I feel your dissapointment on this one. The pink ruffled one is one of my absolute favorites.:thumbsup2

Good luck on a new JOJO outfit and here's a hug for your bad day.

Am I the only one that feels sort of bad for the seller of this outfit? I'm sure she was trying to do her best, but it just didn't work out. More communication probably would have been a good idea. I've made things for people before and they tell me, "Just pick out any fabric." That is SO stressful! I have no idea what kind of taste they have, so it is really difficult. And, the only thing I make is nursing coverups! I can't imagine having to pick out the fabrics for an outfit like this. I can see what she was going for though, and I personally really like it. I guess I just feel bad for the seller, because I'm sure she wanted Tink to like it, but instead everyone is here calling it ugly.

I just feel bad for both of them Tink and the seller.

I guess I shouldn't have posted pictures. I just wanted to see if I was the only one who didn't like it.

I could go somewhere and get it but I have both of my kids and my niece here today and I have tons & tons to do today that I really don't have time to go anywhere. But, I am also itching to get this outfit finished. The leg on the elastic is the only thing I lack.

Oh, and I won't name the seller because I don't want to hurt her business. I just won't buy anything from her again.

Well I just reuqested the same type of outfit that the NBC outfit was.

She chose the fabric so I never saw it before it arrived. I guess I just trusted her from the work she had done on the other one. I won't do that again.

I guess I am the only one who thinks the JoJo outfit is actually cuter than this one?!?!?!?!?! They are both cute though, I am probably just a bigger JoJo fan since I've never even seen NBC. As far as the quality of the fabric though, I would say they are the same. The fabric in the NBC outfit can be bought fairly inexpensively at Wal-mart. I didn't look too closely at the JoJo fabric, but I doubt is is any less quality than the dots in the NBC.

Anyway....... I hope you find something that you like!

I agree with you, Teresa.

I'm sorry Tink isn't happy with the purchase, but the outfit isn't that bad. If anyone on this thread had posted "look at what I made" or "look at this great outfit I bought," everyone would ooh and ahh over it. Even if someone made it and said, "it didn't turn out like I wanted it to" everyone would have made nice comments.

It's a cute outfit. I don't know that much about JoJo (maybe the seller didn't either.) It sounds like she was given a lot of license to do whatever she wanted. It didn't "hit the mark", at least as far as Tink was concerned, but it's not a bad job.

For what it's worth, one of the things I really like about the NBC outfit that it's controlled -- only three fabrics. It's an adorable outfit, but it still leaves the focus on Tink's beautiful DD. Saying "take what I like about this but make it look like a circus" would be a really tall order...and a lot harder than it sounds, I'd imagine.

(I'm a graphic designer and, although it's not exactly the same thing, sometimes it's really hard to have people say I want this piece of this thing, and that piece of that thing, and this new thing, and put them all together and make it look good.)

Sounds like the seller should have been in better contact with Tink... And I'm really sorry that Tink's not happy. I hope the two of you can come to some sort of resolution. I'm sure she's not happy that you're not happy.

I have cut elastic in half before with no issues, longwise, to get the right width.

As for JoJo, I don't think it is ugly at all. I don't think it is what tink is used to, that is all. The detail is missing, after looking at the NBC oufit and the JoJo outfit they are similar in detail though. Difference is with the NBC there isn't much more detail that could be added, where JoJo to me is very in depth. I would personally prefer the tent on the leg and jojo on top, but that is me.

I am making a pair of overalls right now for a lady and she chose to purchase the fabric, which is fine with me, after seeing what she has purchased, it would NOT have been what I would have gone with. I am one to send lots of pictures in the process though. I am thankful that so far she has been wonderful to work with.

Question to all out there, do you resell your custom outfits? I won't personalize my son's for that reason, but see alot that like to, so I was just wondering.

Tink, Sorry about your outfit. I like the dress part but, the pants...hmmm. Is it just the picture or can you not see the characters on the pants with the skirt over it. The NBC one you can see Zero on the leg really well. I also think the patterns aren't the best together but, I still like the dress part. It doesn't seem as poofy as the other one. Maybe put something under it? I don't know that I would even use the shirt. Maybe just wear that with jeans or something.

Here is my dd. Excuse the pictures...it's bedtime so we didn't fix her hair or anything.

I did contact the seller. I haven't heard back.

I think it's cute. It doesn't have the flare of the NBC outfit does. Maybe that's what you keep finding wrong with it. I'm not a fan of NBC and don't really find the outfit that cute. But I do like the style of it. IMO.

Tink561...sorry about the outfit. For what its worth, I do think the swing top and shirt are cute (but, I know absolutely nothing about JoJo). I wouldn't wear them together though and not sure why the seller decided to put a purple background on the shirt. I don't care for the pants either all around-I see what you mean about the waistband looking like a curtain!

I think there was a huge communication gap on both ends. I do interior design for a living and my worst nightmare is a client who tells me just to do whatever or even worse yet "you know what I like". Nope...I don't....you have to tell me what you like and we can go from there! I consult my clients almost constantly through a room or house overhaul so I don't get any horrified looks when things are complete. A happy customer tells one or two people about their experience, an unhappy customer tells everybody about their experience.

Both outfits seem comparable to me as far as workmanship and fabric cost. I'm sure the seller put a lot of time and effort into each one. I don't know what the answer is or how the seller could rectify things in a manner that would be fair to both of you...but I'm sorry you had that experience.

BTW...your daughter is a cutie! :cutie:

I feel bad for both Tink and the seller. I wouldn't want to spend that much money on something I'm not completely satisfied with. I also would hate to know that my buyer wasn't pleased.

When you list your outfits for sale, I believe you open yourself to criticism. I hold people who are selling me the outfit to a higher standard than if I made it myself or someone did it for free. KWIM? I would never go so far as to call the outfit ugly, because it's not, but it's not Tink's style. I don't see much resemblance to the NBC outfit at all. I also see Tink's point about the colors not being cohesive. The seller may have put lots of thought into the outfit and just missed the mark, or she may have thrown something together because she already had her sale (I think she just missed the mark...the NBC outfit is TDF!). Hopefully they can come to an agreeable resolution.

I'd cut the seller some slack. I've seen much, much worse "custom boutique" for sale on eBay.

Someone please help me out. All I want to do is sit here a read this thread. I have a pillowcase dress to finish putting rick rack on, ribbon shorts that I need to put ribbon on, 2 minnie bows, and a pair of flip flops that have to be finished tomorrow for my DDs birthday. On top of that I wanted to make a tutu skirt. They shouldn't take that long for each project but I cant find the motivation. What is wrong with me!?!?:sad2:

About the Jo Jo outfit.... I dunno.... I definitely see what the designer was doing. She was going with brighter, more circus-like colors. Many of you have mentioned the detail is lacking, and I don't see that at all. Both outfits, style-wise, are very simple. The NBC outfit has 2 main fabrics and 1 trim fabric and 2 fairly simple appliques. The Jo Jo outfit has quite a few more fabrics and 3 more complex (more than 1 or 2 pieces put together) appliques. (I'm not even talking about the tee.) Also, the NBC dress has more of a patchwork random feel to it. The Jo Jo dress has more of a quilted look (but w/o the batting) to it. The squares all seem to be lined up quite precisely, so I don't think it is a lack of detail. It is more a lack of flare. The NBC outfit has flare because of the polka dots and the color combination and that makes it very trendy and very "now." The Jo Jo outfit doesn't have that trendiness - neither in colors or patterns on the fabric. It looks like a bright Holly Hobby to me. I do like the Jo Jo outfit though, but I would've done some things differently. I would've put the applique on the tee on the dress and put the tent on the leg.

I'm sorry you're dissappointed though Tink. FWIW, I think it looks better on, and I think your dd looks adorable wearing it.

Can anyone recommend a sewing machine to a novice? I am looking to start sewing but do not have a machine. I don't want to spend a fortune but I also don't want to buy a cheap piece of junk. Any advice? Thanks.

I have a Janome, pretty basic. I only paid about $300 for it about 5 years ago (maybe it was more?). I have used nothing but a Singer since I was a teen. So this was a big switch for me. My machine died and I only a few hundred to spend. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this machine. And I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It's an EXCEL 4014. It does have a few fancy stitches on it, but I'm a pretty basic sewer. Straight, Zig, Button hole, hemming. And that's pretty much it. I have a serger, that I replaced with a Janome, but I'm not that fond of it. But I basically only use it for hemming or finishing off the seams. And my Mom and I share a Brother Disney embroidery machine. I haven't had a chance to use it, she won't stop playing with it!!

I'm having the same kind of slumpy day. I had to run over to my college, but I didn't even put make up on, or take a shower. :rolleyes1 That is not like me at all. I can't even make an excuse that I'm sick or anything. Just tired. I'm sitting here contemplating a nap. LOL
I just bought tons more fabric yesterday and usually that perks me up, but today...Nah...

I am no expert on sewing machines but my $170.00 Kenmore from Sears works great!
