The dresses came out super cute!!

I went to Joanns yesterday planning on buying a few disney different prints to make some of those for dd but they only had 2 and I didn't like either one. I was so mad!!

hey all! i love all of the adorable outfits you ladies are creating! lots of talented mommies. anyway, i am a VERY new sewer...i did manage to make a couple of pilllow case dresses last week. however, now im itching to try the bandana halter and pants- my dd skin is sooo sensitive and i like to keep her cool and breezy in the summer-. anyway, i went to the you can do this site and its 9.95 for the pattern. martha stewart has a pattern under summer crafts but it must be archived or something, because it wont display the page. anyway, i was just wondering if anyone had directions to a pattern or could give me a site that had free directions. i dont really want to spend $ on a pattern that may or may not work for me. thanks so much! and keep the great pics of your amazing creations coming!

I was just wondering where do you get the pillowcases??? I went to Wlamart & the only ones that I saw had big faces of the characters facing side ways & they were flannnel (too hot for Sept!) Thansk for the help!!

I was hoping for something free too. May sound silly, but if I'm gonna pay for the pattern, I might as well by the outfits on e-bay. I saw a really cute one that had a t-shirt plain white, with the initial of the child in the matching bandana print. I just love t-shirts!!

I was wondering the same thing! I looked at Walmart (even though I don't sew) and they were not all flannel but they were all horizontal. The would have made a very odd looking dress. Plus I think they all come in packages of 2.

Here is my new Ariel outfit.

This set is a twirl skirt and shirred back halter. I love the bright colors. Sorry for the not-so-good photos. I haven't edited them yet.

And my Cow outfit is finally completed...Yes I know, Cows aren't Disney...but you can link it...see...um...cows make milk...you can use milk to make ice cream, and I love the Mickey Ice Cream Bars. See...it works...

I love the cow print and I couldn't decide what to do with it. So I think this was one of my easiest outfits, but it took me the longest to make. :rotfl2:

I don't think pillowcase dresses are made with actual pillowcases. They are called that because they used to be made out of pillowcases. Nowadays, they are just made with fabric. Hope that helps!

Ok - so my intent was to make a bunch of twirly skirts for the girls for our trip. I haven't made a single one! What do you think the chances are that I can get several sets of three (I have three girls) done before our trip in nine days?!

what kind of sewing machine does everyone have? I am looking to purchase an inexpensive one but one that will do the applique embroidery.....???!!!

Hmmm. The directions I have read all say make them out of a pillowcase.

I think you can make them out of pillowcases, but you can also make a larger "pillowcase" out of fabric. This is helpful for older kids(that are too tall for a standard pillowcase!), and you can use fabrics and prints that you like. Someone posted directions a few pages back...it says that you can use a piece of fabric that is 36-40 inches long, fold in half, right sides together, and stich up one side. Then hem bottom. Hope this helps!

I don't know what the others have used but I'm pretty sure you use regular fabric to do these, not a real pillowcase. I found a free pattern using google and it said to use a certain amount of fabric based on what size dress you want to make.

Can I add my two cents about the pillowcase dresses. Do you still have to do any sewing? It looks like you have to sew the casing where the ribbon goes through. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But if you have to do any machine sewing at all, why not just pick up a yard of your favorite material and sew the one seam down the side. You'd pretty much have the same thing. Right? I know, I'd much rather sift through hundreds of beautiful bolts of fabric, instead of being limited to just whatever pillowcases are offered.
Of course I don't know anything about pillowcase dresses, so if I'm wrong...sorry in advance...:rotfl:

Oh yes you can use just regular fabric. I have made several and not one was from a pillowcase. I just find fabric I like. I sew a side seam, finish the arm holes and make the neckline. You can add trim to the bottom or just a plain hem.

I have just a simple brother machine from walmart, which was around $120. I can make any of these outfits with it (except the ones with Mickey embroidered, which no regular machine will do).

I also then have a brother disney 2002D embroidery machine, which was WAY more! $4000 to be exact. All it will do that my other won't is embroider disney designs and I can insert a disks with other disigns and design my own. I hardly ever use he embroidery part unless I make a towel or something with mickey on it. I have done a few blankets and a couple sets of bath towels, couple dish towels. They turned out really cute.

But for just doing these outfits something simple and cheap from walmart is perfect, they have them even cheaper now.
