Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 5

Where can I find a true-to-size peasant top?

I've tried the free patterns on the web, and they end up too small around the chest and I hated the square cutouts for the sleeves.

I made a Simplicity one. Size 7, which should be a bit generous in the chest and good for the length. It's HUGE! DD is 24 inches around her torso. This is 35 inches! According to the pattern, a size 3 is 30 inches around. What kids did they use to figure out pattern sizes?

We're home!!!!!!!!!!! Not that I was happy to leave FL, but I sure am glad to be home! I won't take up a bunch of space with tons of pics, I'll save those for my TR. But, these are just for you guys!

And this one because this was the sweetest FG ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the morning of 12/4, dd2 woke up and said to me "I want to see Fairy Godmother today". When we were waiting for the girls' appts at the boutique, dh had dd2 on Dumbo when we realized FG was out. We waited to see her and she had to go before dd2 could get there. I was about to cry. She knew I was waiting for dd2, so she hid under Tinkerbell's Treasures to wait for her! As soon as dd2 saw FG, she broke into the fastest run I've ever seen her attempt! It was priceless!

What an awesome FG! What a great story. You can tell your DD was very happy to see her!

Somehow, I missed the quote from Tom. I was just gonna say what a cute top you made! Adorable!

I think the new portrait peasant dress by Sewboutique for dolly by CarlaC (on ycmt) is true to size. DD is a size 5 and that is actually the size I used for it. You'll have to modify the pattern a little for a more traditional peasant top look , but this pattern in by far the best one I've tried. I've used a pattern from Simplicity and the Dainty Designs pattern, and I had problems with both of those patterns right from the start!! The CarlaC pattern is awesome! I've made 3 so far and not a problem with even one of them!! Here are the 2 that I did.

I finally figured out how to make my own tags yesterday, and I wanted to share with others how I did it.

1) I used Microsoft Word to create a table with cells 2" tall by 1.5" wide. The table settings were 4 rows and 5 colums to make a sheet of 20 tags.

2) I made mine say:
An Original
My Mommy
Made This
Design ♥

2) Copy and paste into each cell then center it inside each one.

3) Using Hanes t-shirt maker iron-on paper, print out the page. Remember to go into your printer settings and turn on mirror image.

4) Print page.

5) I cut a piece of scrap fabric to the size of a sheet of paper. I trimmed my printed iron-on page down leaving 1/2" around the outer lines.

6) I applied the iron-on page to the piece of fabric following the iron-on paper instructions.

7) Using pinking shears, I cut out the tags along the lines.

8) To apply the tag to the garment, I laid the tag down on the back seam, and using a regular straight stitch, I sewed in a square pattern along the outer edges of the tag.

You can also just buy printable fabric at Joanns. They have it in packages of 8.5"x11" sheets and in rolls in cotton, poplin, canvas and silk. OR if you're feeling extremely DIY or have a specific fabric you like then you can buy this stuff called Bubble Jet Set. You wash your fabric w/ it and it makes it color fast so you can run the fabric through your ink jet printer. YOu just cut it to size and press some freezer paper on the back and VOILA! Your very own printable fabric. I have used this for lots of things including some custom patches and I LOVE it. I've been meaning to make some tags for mine.
When I finally branch out (years from now, remember my goal is to have an online boutique or do the :wizard: thing once I become a teacher-3 years from now) I think my stuff will be "t-beri Togs" So that's what I'm gonna put on the stuff I make Little now.
Gotta run...dinner

Alright, I'm having some trouble with a couple of projects. Maybe I can get some help from the rest of you guys. This is Kirsta's Xmas dress. She wanted to wear it to church, so I just pinned a ribbon to the bottom of the shirt part. But it's so big. I was trying to figure out how to attatch elastic. Or just those side hooks for a ribbon to slip through. And the bottom isn't hemmed. It's just serged. I was going to roll it. But now I'm wondering if maybe some horsehair braid might work to fluff it out some more. It's not as long as it looks in the picture. You can't see it, but I iron-on one of those bling Santa's. And it has black fur cuffs on it.

Here is my other project. It's great for your fabric swap. I would have liked to join in on that, except my fabric cuts were all alot smaller. Anyway, I orgionally thought to make it short so she could wear bike shorts or leggings under it with a Tshirt. My Mom thinks I should add another row. But I look at it and it's so full, that I'm wondering if I should just make a jumper out if it and add 2 rows. It is a lot shorter then it looks in the picture. It comes to about mid thigh.

My second problem is the front. I wanted to applique a Mickey head, but you can see how blue it is from the pocket (I have a paper cutout on it now). Should I just make a patchwork pocket for the front? The back is plain, and I thought I'd just embroider a little Mickey head. I went to Joannes, to see if I could try the large Disney applique, but they didn't have them. I thought maybe Cinderella may cover that big spot.
Anyone have ideas?

That's the end of my troubles for now!! I have to get to work on my Xmas projects and put the sewing away until month. When I'm sure I won't have anymore time, but I'll squeeze it in.

I love it already. I think you should cover with material and then do a mickey head
cute idea!

I would like to say that I have been looking at these clothers and LOVE them. I do not know how to sew but saw some clothes on a TR and she mentioned this thread, I have a DD so I thought I would take a looksy. OMG, they are great. What talent everyone has. I am getting a machine this christmas from my mom so when we go to WDW in 2009 I could maybe try some of these outfits. The denium one is absolutely adorable.

I'm so glad it's been slow here lately. I haven't had time to get on!

Tom - Sorry to hear about your mom. That must be so tough.

Love the pics from the World!

This is my first post in this thread and everything is so cute. I am an artsy person with one little problem...I would love to make cute stuff like this BUT we don't have kids and there are no little ones in the family.

I think it is time to consider making friends with people who have small children.:rotfl2:

Yes, another I Spy question. I'm going to make one as a present for DN2. I was looking at the instructions and it says to cut out the square in the fabric and sew the vinyl on for with window. Won't the fabric fray? Is it supposed to?

TIA!
Chantell

OK, everyone - we're getting ready to leave tomorrow! I think (I hope) we're all packed up. Just had to post real quick before bed. If anyone recognizes my two little crazies come and say hi!
Have fun Lori!

Well I started my new job this week and I haven't really had much of a chance to get onto the DIS. I am going thru withdrawl!!! But I do really like my new job and once I am done training I will be able to get onto the DIS during the day at my computer. I did make a dress this week on a whim for a good friend of mine. They left this morning for WDW. She used to follow this thread way back when but life got in the way and she couldn't keep up with this fast moving thread. So she knows all about the great custom outfits but she ran out of time to make one for her DD. After talking to her on the phone I decided to make her something for her DD, which was a surprise trip for the kids and she said that the dress would just be icing on the cake for her DD. I feel like I did my good deed for the week!
My pics are done loading so here it is...BTW I about had an anxiety attack cutting into my Minnie Dot(I have almost 15 yards of it!!!)

th_IMG_0165.jpg
That looks great!!!!

I think the diser you're talking about is me! We got here just in time for the big snow last weekend and have been counting the 12 or so inches dropped since then! Quite a welcome to Wisconsin if we ever had one! Of course, the moving van came and unloaded all the boxes on Monday, on the ice and snow packed driveway. I am in the middle of unpacking boxes, but I did promise some pics, so tomorrow I'll go outside and take some and post them.

Anyway..... have to say, I just got back online this morning (talk about withdrawl..... and....

It's REALLY good to be back!

I missed you all and am looking forward to catching up!

I was just about to send a search party out for you!!! I'm glad you are in your house! It's REALLY good to HAVE you back!!!!!

I wonder if it is b/c Heather was leaving to go out of town today -- you know she has been trying to move herself up the "Post the Most" ladder! j/k!!
:rotfl:

Not that anyone is here to read this...BUT I am joining the upside down pants club! I can't believe that I just cut not 1 but 2 pair of pants out for little and the patterns are upside down. Well, not just..I was cutting at about 2 in the morning 2 nights ago, I only just realized they were upside down. CRAP. the one pair are for an outfit and I have plenty of material left over so I'll recut them. But the other pair were pj pants and they were cut from a remnant piece of flannel I got hella cheap so I saved some money but her kitty cats will be upside down CRAP...I'm an idiot

Anyway, didn't think anyone else would really appreciate my vent. Thanks ladies.
...t.
I did the same thing with Arminda's Pooh Toille shirt, but I was able to recut the piece and make it right. Do I get to join the club too? Or does it have to be pants?

I decided to jump on the bandwagon, and make some I-Spy bags. The girls have never seen anything like it before, and they helped gather up the hidden items inside. I think the only thing I would do differently, is use something lighter than rice, like plastic beads....

I spy a syringe! I like it Lisa!
Thanks everyone for your well wishes. We appreciate them!
Mom is not doing very well, and we are having to put her in a nursing home on Monday. I have to figure out what to do with her apartment and everything in it by the end of the month. Can I just close my eyes and pretend that this is just a dream?

Love the tree pics! You all decorate as beautifully as you create clothing!

:grouphug: So sorry about your Mom, that has got to be so hard.
Hi! I read this thread quite a bit and love it. I rarely post though since I cannot sew and purchase all of my customs. I want to ask a question, maybe it is a stupid question though. Do any of you get attached to certain outfits and keep them long after your kids outgrow them? I have quite a few that I know I should sell/list on that site but cannot bring myself to part with them. I won't be having anymore children, so saving them seems like a waste. I try and talk myself into listing them to make some extra $ for our May trip to WDW but have yet to do it. Now, I'm telling myself to wait until after the Holidays to list them but after the Christmas holidays it will be some other reason not to list them. I KNOW I should part with them, but can't. Does anyone else struggle with this?

When I had Corey, someone gave me a little double breasted suit for him. When he outgrew it, I sold it at a resell shop. I went shopping there one day, and saw the suit for sale. I just about cried! And, I was REALLY tempted to buy it back! I STILL regret selling that little suit! So, I understand!

BTW - I just got 5 White Stag Ladies short sleeve tees for $5 (at Walmart)!!! There was a sign saying $6 but when I got to the check out, they rang up at only $1!! Yep, I went back and got myself some!! I've been looking for short sleeve tees for a week or so and Walmart was the only place I've found them!! Now I just need to find a girLs 2t white short sleeve tee. Not so easy in Michigan right now.

Thanks Leslie! I will have to check out our Walmart!

:dance3: :dance3: CONGRATULATIONS, TERESAJOY!!! YOU HAVE 1,000 POSTS ON OUR THREAD!!!

YEAH ME!   Thanks for letting me know!
I've got to hop in the shower but our vacation is over and we'll be on our way home in a few hours. Sorry I didn't get to run into TNMom. I was tempted to wander around yelling for her but she probably wouldn't have heard me. :)

I'll have pictures up either tonight or tomorrow, my husband took an insane amount and we got almost 200 photopass photos so it'll take awhile.

Okay, I've got to go but I'll be back online when we get home in a few hours. I just finally got the small person to wake up, she has said she wants to go home. I think I'm ready too.

I hope you have a safe trip home. We can't wait to see your pictures !
For appliqueing on stretchy material, it helps to put a stabalizer on the inside. Take a square or rectangle piece of scrap fabric and back it with fusible web just like the outer applique is backed. Attach the stabalizer piece of fabric to the inside of the shirt underneath where the outer applique will be. Applique the outside then trim the stabalizer down about 1/4" out from the outter stitches. HTH. :)

HI!!!! Nice to see you around! Don't be such a stranger!

Thanks! I'm going to have to try this!

We're home!!!!!!!!!!! Not that I was happy to leave FL, but I sure am glad to be home! I won't take up a bunch of space with tons of pics, I'll save those for my TR. But, these are just for you guys!

Your daughters look so pretty!!!!
How sweet of the FG!!!! It sure sounds like you had a great trip. I can't wait to read your trip report!

I thought that I would try to make a quick little outfit for Princess to wear to school tomorrow. They are having candid photo day for the yearbook, so I thought, "Why not?'.

Little swing top with matching hair bow. She has a pair of brown velour pants that will look good with this.

Also, for our Anniversay, my wife bought this for my sewing room. It is a 5 ft. long desk, with a thick tempered glass top. The best part was she got it on clearance for $40. I am going to get a fluorescent under cabinet light and slip it under the glass to use as a light box. Now I have a place to lay out my fabric and pin the patterns to it. I used to use the ironing board. Not very convenient.;) Especially when you pin the pattern and fabric to the ironing board cover!:goodvibes

th_j1004.jpg

Also, storage underneath for my extra sewing machines, and other "stuff".
Cute outfit Tom!!!
How long have you been married?? Which reminds me, I don't think you shared your wedding pictures, you need to do that!

Welcome to both of you!! Just a warning: This thread is very addictive!

Disneylaura - I didn't know how to sew either when I found this thread back in May. I loved all of the outfits but didn't want to spend all the $$$ on them. I've had fun learning as I go and the wonderful ladies (and Tom too) are soo helpful to us newbie sewers! Have Fun with your new machine.

Hi Ladies and Tom :)

I have not posted on this thread for soooo long. I have been reading, but I have not had a moment to post. I have done a little sewing. I made Katie a really beautiful dress for the Pumpkin show here in town. I would love to post pics, but this dinosaur of a PC I am using will not recognize my camera? I have also started receiving my fabric from the swap. I was attempting to cute mine tonight, but I need a new blade for my rotary cutter.

I am having huge technical issues tonight. I have two sewing machines an old singer and the Disney brother. I usually love them both but tonight I would throw them out the window if my sewing room had them

Anyway- I was hoping someone could please help me?

The issue with my singer is the top thread will not catch my bobbin thread. I have replaced the needle, oiled it, cleaned the lint out of the bobbin case, switched bobbins and tread and re-threaded my machine several times. I do not know what else to try.

My brother machine will embroider fine. As for sewing it just stinks. I can not get it to sew at all. It just gunks my fabric up under the needle. I know several people have this machine. I was just wondering if this was normal?
I am only trying to sew two pieces of cotton, so it is not very heavy fabric.

I am trying to make Katie two Christmas dresses. I have everything cut and ready to go. I really want to get them finished tomorrow. I hate to have all of this stuff hanging over my head. I guess if worse comes to worse she does have several store bought Christmas dresses

I would love to see what others have done with the Rudolph fabric from walmart.

I also wanted to add... I love all of the stuff that has been posted lately. I am jealous some of you super sewers have Valentines outfits already. I also love the Cinderella dresses and the outfit that 2cutekids made for her daughter to wear to a holiday party. I also love the brown and pink outfit Tom whipped up for his princess today. I love pink and brown together.

I also wanted to let Tom know I am also very sorry to hear about your mom. She as well as you and your family are in my prayers.

Thanks in advance for the help. I look forward to sharing all of the stuff I have finished since October with you all. I think my DH is getting me a new laptop for Christmas.

Oh… DH got a new job in Vegas. We will be moving our brood from Ohio to Las Vegas sometime after the New Year. Any fellow Disboutiquers in that area? We are looking at Summerlin (sp?)

I saw some Christmas tree pics a page or two back. Here we are looking for our tree to cut down:

Watching DH cut it down:
DSC07282.jpg

It wasn't too, too cold, which was good. We went yesterday and decorated it today. I'll have to take pics of the finished product and get them up here!

we are all so busy running, but we must remember the true meaning of the season. We celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus. And now onto what I made for the girls. DS age 12 will not let me make him anything :confused3 So it is just for the girls but DS is allowed in the photos.
