Well - I said I would never get a dog - too much expense and care - but I have learned now to never say never! Here is our new addition!

He is so cute! Our dog died a little over a year ago and we just decided we are going to get a puppy  In the spring or summer. I realized that we very badly need some new carpet, but don't want to get any until we have "potty" trained a new pup so we can't wait forever! I also don't want my kids growing up without a dog. I always had one growing up and she was a real friend to me. I remember troubled teenage years crying to my doggy.

I am going to ask for a rotary cutter and mat for Christmas and I was wondering what you ladies & Tom use to measure the strips. Since I have to use my regular scissors, I have to measure, mark everything and then cut. Do you use something like the Dritz Omnigrid Ruler ( http://www.hancockfabrics.com/shopp...ID=26697&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=rulers ) ?

I am having trouble coming up with Christmas ideas for myself since I want to wait until next year to get a new machine. Are any of you asking for sewing stuff for Christmas? If so, what?

Yep, that's what I use! I also have a cool quilting one that I can not find. It has a sort of lip that fits down over the edge of your cutting board and keeps the ruler straight. I had to ask for a new machine this year since mine died but DH just called me from Costco, he is getting it right now! :cheer2: Now if I can just keep my hands off it until Christmas!

That is what I have and I love it!! Holds the pattern down, gives you a straight line to cut against with the rotary cutter, measures, and gives you a right angle.Definitely put it on your list. I have the same size cheaper one from walmart that I got for about 5 bucks.

I don't have any sewing stuff on my list for xmas per say. Instead hubby just let me lose at Joann's the day after Thanksgiving in the 99 cent flannel sale. I bought about 50 yards :rolleyes1 He knows that makes me happy so he just says go for it

Where do I find that pattern? I keep looking through Teresa's bookmarks but I can't find it. I must be looking in the wrong place.

Also, has anyone made these for younger kids? My dd is 4 and my ds is 2.5 and I'm wondering if they would like them.

I think it is under toys. But, just do a search at the top of the page, and it will pop right up. That's how I find things half the time! I think those ages would love them! Lydia is 4, and she loves hers. That is if I ever rember to pick it up from my Mom's house!

I just found them searching "I spy" in the bookmarks. I made one for each of my 4 kids, ages 10, 8, 5, and 2. They are for Christmas but I know they will all love them. Each one is sort of custom to each child's interests (more thinks like Legos and plastic bugs, a guitar pick for DS8, things like polly pocket stuff and barbie mirrors and girly stuff for DD2.) The older kids will be able to find items from their list. The little ones will just have fun squishing it around and looking at stuff or I can direct them to "find the pink Polly pocket shoe". I showed them to DH and even he had fun playing with them!

My DD (who will be 3 in two weeks) loves the one that I made. She obviously can't read what she is supposed to find but she loves it when you tell her what to look for!

thanks for all the responses!!! I'm going to go shopping this week and start some. I think they sound like fun!!!

OMG!!! That is my dream!!!

All 3 of my boys are almost always up by 6:30/7am every day! And that is no matter what time they go to bed!!!

You and me both sister. Mac MUST get up by 7:00 am EVERY day no matter what his bed time was and his sister stays up until 2am every night, between the 2 I am EXHAUSTED

Ok I have just returned from Santa's sweet treat sweatshop- also known as my sisters kitchen!!

We have a place like this it's my MIL's. When my DH (then 23) finally moved out of her house we were having dinner after having moved his stuff to my apartment.. His mother BURST into tears. My FIL said "Ro, it's okay, he'll come home" (mind you we live all of 15 minutes away to this very day-though thankfully not in the same rat trap!!) she said "ask him" he said "ask him what?" she said "KEN!!! ask him" My FIL then, looking exasperated, says B- tell your mother that you will come home to make christmas cookies w/ her." :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I almost fell out of my chair. So 10 years later we go EVERY year to my MIL's for a marathon cookie baking session. She mixes the dough and we scoop, plop, mold, spritz or whatever else the cookies need done to them. My FIL is chief operator in charge of the Oven temp and time. B is solely responsible for the choosing what color dough goes w/ what spritz cookie shape and the last 2 years we've made mini bread loaves for christmas favors and gifts for neighbors. I sort all of the dry ingredients into ziplock bags according to bread type (Last year we made 5 different ones) this is on top of the 6 dozen chocolate chip cookies (3 w/ nuts 3 without) a million spritz cookies, tassies, and thumbprints
It is an exhausting and trying day but it's our Christmas tradition.:santa:

I have a cold and need to go home to rest. I will post this weekend hopefully w/ Little's completed christmas outfit. I don't have enough of the stocking /christmas tree fabric and our Joanns doesn't have it. Luckily I had to go to a further one for the princess leia flannel anyway. OOH speaking of flannel. I found a 20x42 remnant of Ariel flannel for 1.94 :woohoo: SCORE!! Perfect for a pair of Little PJ pants.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!! We were all pulling for you! What a fantastic accomplishment! When do you get your "cap and pin"??? Do they even still do that??

I found some Converse High tops at Rack Room Shoes they had pink and black.

I also saw the cutest little shoes that were printed with the phrase materiel (not the faces) of the friends around the world fabric. The fabric I used for the Mickey Head on these overalls. They were made by a company called Xappeal
th_IMG_4927.jpg

If we had a trip planned I would have picked up a pair. I did get a pair of the black high tops.

Edited to add, forget about the overalls I found a picture of them on the shoe store website

Aren't they adorable!~

Sorry about the outfit thingy and I can't wait to see your tutu skirt. I tried to make one but I could put many layers without stretching out the elastic.

OK here is my surgery list: facelift, liposuction, tummy tuck, third chin deletion :rotfl: (is that a name?), breast overhaul :rolleyes1 (I nursed 4 children!). Are you open next week??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I ask this of my closest girl friends (and Tom).

My DD goes to a public school with uniforms. I was told when I enrolled her, that in the classroom they can ONLY wear uniform pieces. Outside (recess) they could wear regular coats. "Uniform" jackets are available for order from and outside vendor. I did not order a $60.00 coat from the vendor as I understood she could wear her regular coat for recess. She has been wearing a fleece jacket to school on the few chilly days we have had and nothing was said.

Today the temps were in the 50-60's. I sent DD to school in her short sleeve uniform polo, uniform sweater, and her fleece jacket. She came home and told me she did not wear either the jacket or sweater to recess. I asked her why. She told me the principal had made an announcement yesterday that if the children went outside without the Uniform coats they would be sent to the principals office! Soooo I called the school. I spoke with the secretary, who had to put me on hold, because she was not sure of the policy! It seems the school "rule" is a child can wear a regular jacket to school. But they must take it off in the classroom (which I completely understand), but if the class goes out for recess-the child is not allowed to wear their coat if it is not from the vendor(Even if I ordered a coat now, it would not be here for several weeks). Am I the only one who find this unreasonable? When I worked in the school district we encouraged the children to wear a coat. :confused3
I would think that the school would want the children in school and not home sick from not wearing a coat!

WOW, I've never heard of ANY school that dictates what jacket the kids can wear outside. That is awful unreasonable. Especially being a public school your tax dollars go to. I would advocate for a change in policy. So, your daughter had to be cold?? Maybe they should pay your medical bills when she gets sick too. I would be irate!

:sad2: I would be upset too. I haven't even heard of a public school that wear's uniforms...maybe I've been living in a cave.
They should have gave you ample notice if they were changing the policies.
How rude...

My DD goes to a Catholic School with uniforms and they are allowed to wear any coat outside. In the classroom they can wear a cardigan sweater that is part of the uniform and has the school symbol embroidered on it.

I think your school's policy is extremely unreasonable. I would try to find out what other parents think and what they are doing. $60 is a lot of money for a coat! Is the Vendor the principal's friend? It seems like bad policy to me but you need the other parents to back you up.

Also, does your school have a handbook? See if there is anything mentioned there about the coats. They can't change the rules in the middle of the school year. If the handbook says that the coat is required then you might have to buy a coat. But they should let your child wear a coat from home until it is ready. But if it doesn't mention it in the handbook or anything else they gave you regarding uniforms, then I would meet with the principal and see what he/she says. Your DD should have been allowed to wear the uniform sweater if she needed it.

Love the Cookie story! That sounds like a lot of work and a lot of fun! My DH avoids the kitchen. But I like baking, and I have to make a Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Chip Cookies on Friday. Hope your Cold  is better soon.
