In other news, has anyone ever had their gall-bladder out? Mine has to come out early next month (scheduling it the tuesday after Thanksgiving), and I'm a little concerned, since I am a stay-at-home mom. They kiddos are in school (pre-k and K), but put them on and I get them off the bus and take care of them until daddy gets home every night. My mother has offered to come out and help me for a few days, but she's a cleaning nazi (and I'm...well...cluttered), and having her here is extremely stressful, adn would require my spending the next 3-4 weeks leading to the surgery Frantically deep cleaning the entire house. I would prefer to avoid this, since they say this is a one-day surgery, but will I need help? Thanks in advance.

I had mine out about 5 or 6 years ago. I was kept over night since I had it done in the afternoon. I didn't have any sort of problems. The Doc kept me out of work for a week since I work in retail and on my feet all day. Otherwise, he said I would have gone back right away. Now I think they do them in those small outpatient centers.

That is so sweet! Now I'm crying again. I guess I just miss my parents more right now because of the holidays. My oldest 2 have great memories of my mom. She was one of those grandmas that is all about the grandkids (like you!) DHs dad and step mom will be in town (they live in Canada) for days before even making time to see my kids and it breaks my heart. Yesterday I was just remembering that when I was my daughter's age, my mom would let us have her fabric scraps and use her sewing machine to make "Barbie clothes" I even remember sewing kleenex dresses. I have her machine now, I should really let DD make doll clothes. That is a good memory. Okay, sorry to ramble, like I said, missing my parents.
Here I go crying again... to you. My husband's mother is one of "those" Grandmas. She's seen Tessa 2x in the last 4.5 years (one of those times we flew to TX to meet her), but she can galavant all over the world on expensive vacations. Luckily, my kids have wonderful grandparents right next door and some truly great great-grandparents, too.

I too miss my Grandma more because of the holidays. My DD never got to meet my Grandma. But I think my Grandma would have LOVED her. My Mother, well she is not really a cookie baking, sewing Grandma. I hope my DD will be able to make fond memories with her. :santa:

To bad we can't choose our familes, our kids could have a "Aunt Heather, Aunt Teresa Joyce (I remembered :lmao: ) and Aunt Lisa and cousin JORD!"

Cindee
Aww..:grouphug: I'd love to be Aunt Heather! You are just too sweet!

I'm having a hard time with Thanksgiving/Christmas this year. We lost Henry's Grandpa (I'm crying as I write this and my DH thinks I'm going nuts) last year on December 15. It was unexpected and he was "only" 72. He was not only my Grandpa, he was one of my best friends. We talked to each other on the phone and/or e-mail almost every day. We spent every Thanksgiving and Christmas at their house. He would cook us the most delicious food and give the greatest bear hugs in the world. I miss that man more than I can say :sad1: . Henry's Grandma is going to spend Thanksgiving at our house this year. It's going to be so hard, but we'll get through it. :grouphug: To everyone else who feels this way this year.

Those are comfy, cute pants! You look fine, too. I've never had my gall-bladder out, so I'm not much help. But, everyone goes through surgery differently, so it might be a good idea to have some help around, even if she's the "cleaning nazi".

Okay so you'll have to excuse the pj's and unbrushed hair :rolleyes1 but here are the two capes we finished. The red one is for Haleigh (my 3 1/2 yr old) but Paige (one of the twins) is modeling it princess: and the pirate one is for Taylor...she's a bit of a tomboy.

Since it won't let me post links yet (my post count is still too low) here's my .mac gallery (it's the only album there)

gallery dot mac dot com/alixwest

just replace the dot with an actual .

guess I better get to posting, huh :)

Your girls are gorgeous!! Those capes are too cool!!

:wave2: :welcome: Sweetnsassy! I agree w/ everyone else about checking out TJ's links and pillowcase dresses. I wanted to mention too that my first project was a stripwork twirl dress and it was pretty easy too. I actually had more trouble w/ the pillow case dress b/c it is really just instructions where as I had a pattern to follow for the stripwork...I just didn't have enough confidence to make the assumptions neccessary for a pillowcase dress, and when I did I made the armholes WAY too big and had to start over. But the 2nd time it was like a homer simpson DUH moment, like how'd I do that wrong? but we make mistakes and learn from them KEEP MOVING FORWARD!!! my new motto. That and make sure your scissors aren't in the couch cushion before you sit down.:rotfl: :rotfl: AND you might want to repeat this mantra to yourself as you sew, I know it's helped many of us..."right sides together, right sides together"
I bought a ruffler today, and OMG...I zipped through 180" of fabric in record time!!! Stitching them onto the skirt fabric with my serger took even less time than I thought possible (I skipped pinning) I can't wait to time myself on a twirl skirt because pulling gathers and pinning each row took FOREVER!!!
You and Heather have me in FITS!!! I tried my moms ruffler (original 1942 model:sad2: ) No go, my MIL's ruffler- NO GO and I bought one at Joanns w/ NO luck. Forget optimizing...I've followed the directions and all it does is go "ka-chunk ka-chunk ka-chunk" and the one I bought broke 2 of my needles before I realized the blue "blade" was bent. I haven't taken it back yet, but I really need someone to show me how to use one these things ( yes I have the instructions from YCMT) My life would be so much easier if I could use mine(after I return it and get a new one)!!!
Well, I finally got my DD4 to model her casual princess outfit! And no I will not apologize for the falling down ponytail hair!:rotfl: Nor for my messy living room!:rotfl2: You know how dangerous cleaning is!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

Now you know I don't have to tell you how cute your kids are, but I will anyway:cutie: not only is she cute, but stylin' too!! I have those pillow panels and some yello and blue fabric at home I am planning on CASEing this w/ snow white for Little for christmas. We're totally broke and I have a ton of fabric so she'll be getting some homemade stuff for christmas, that way the money I have can be for toys from santa. Besides the Grands will buy her clothes too. So now we're even- with the CASEing:thumbsup2

JHAM, you know you're kids are too cute...I can't believe you get your older daughter to match her sister- that is sweet...I always thought MY lily was the prettiest girl ever (I know most of you will disagree;) ) but YOURs might just run a REALLY close second!!

Steph- Great job on the corset-shirring and all (now if I can just work up the courage to tackle it!!) I'm sure your neighbor is going to LOVE it!! M probably hated giving it up!

PS thanks for all the curly hair tips. I have baby fine POKER straight hair and my litte's head abounds with the curls. I have found that braiding it after a bath totally helps but then it seems her curls aren't quite the same in the morning. Fortunately here in the land of high humidity it is usually taken care of as soon as we step outside our humidity controlled bubble.:scared1:
Dh has curly hair- she gets it from him... he said when she's 12 and is fighting w/ it every day he is going to tell her it's all my fault that throughout my pregnancy I prayed for a baby w/ his thick and curly hair. He says I cursed her. I think she's blessed.

Hi Everyone! I have been busy sewing away all morning on a peasant top and a pair of matching jeans. Boy...what a job. I only have one leg half done. I do have an exam on Tuesday, that I'm so not ready for, so I will have to get to it, this afternoon.
Anywho, thanks for all the inquiries about Miss Ireland. She is feeling better. Her face still has a little red patch that is going away. (if she hadn't picked it, :sad2: it would have been healed by now...) her thumb is almost back to normal, and it's strange. She's kind of slowed down, in a good way, since all f this happend. I think she sees now what can happen, when you go "ape-wild" all the time. She's taking a nap right now, and thanks to Miss Carol, I have to fight Ireland for my computer. She is Webkinz crazy. She loves her little Reindeer, and she sleeps with it every night. She even pushes it around in her baby stroller.:rotfl:
I will be posting photos of my new outfit soon. Maybe even with just one leg done...:lmao:
Everyone's new outfits are great.
Cindee---Did you make a Grinch outfit for Jord? And I still want to see what you've been making...
Take care everyone!!
Lisa

I saw this photo, this morning...and it made me wish it was Summer again...:santa:

Clearly noone has let sweet-n-sassy know that we DO NOT apologize for....not commenting on every single outfit ever posted, bath tub hair, pj's, not having matching hairbows, messy livingrooms (my2angels, if that's messy, I would like you to come clean MY house!) being off topic, whining, posting really cute pics of our kids in NON disney clothes or storebought clothes just to say hey look my kid is cute! or our sisters posting completely humiliating stories about us. Or much else really. So you are OFF THE HOOK Pj's and all- your kiddos are gorgeous and so are the capes you made, looks like you are off to a great start! :cheer2:

Those capes are really neat! Princess Leigh has already said that she HAS to have one to see Santa! I guess I better get busy!

Everyone's stuff is truly great!

I just want to let everyone know how nice it is to be able to share my talents as well as see everyone elses.

This place just ROCKS!

Okay, sundays are always slow so I may not get an answer to this but if any of you have the YCMT patterns by dainty designs for the double layered tulle twirl skirt and for the corset I need the yardage requirements for them for a size 24 months. I forgot the info and am at my MIL's and need to order the fabric. It would be a great help

TIA (and oddly that was the name I went by throughout childhood, sometime after the army it was shortened to just t.)

...t.

This is the fabric requirement for a Size 12m-2T Tulle Skirt
Waist: 1/8 yard
Top tier: 1/2 yard
Bottom tier: 5/8 yard
Ruffles: 1/4 yard for EACH print

Tulle to match (3 yards for sizes 12 months to 3T)

For the corset..I didn't see materials for specific size but this is what is listed under Materials:
1/2 yard each of 4 different prints (center panel, side panels, back) - liberal amount
1/8 yard solid cotton fabric for lining (if you choose to line)

Hope this help!

So yesterday I went to Hancock Fabric, and they had some Minnie Mouse Dot fabric and I bought about three yards of it! DD was pretty excited to see the fabric when I got home with it. Can someone tell me where I can get a pattern to make a Minnie Mouse dress...she would love one for Chef Mickey when we go Disney next year...? Thanks again!!!!

Giving myself a shameless bump!

YOu know I haven't been online in a week (damn layoff!!!) and I have to keep my post count up... besides noone else is around (typical sunday)

I just wanted to say that I grew up w/ one of "those" grandma's.
I spent every saturday night at my dad's mom's. She kept us kids after school and took us to church on sundays. Saturday nights she could have had just me or any combination of me, my sister, and my 2 cousins. We made cookies, popped popcorn, rented movies. She taught us to play cards. When I was in highschool and college I lived w/ her and once I was in my own house we would go to lunch or she would meet me and the kids at the park. I don't know what i'll do when she's gone, luckily that's a long way away (barring an accidental death. But she absolutely refuses to get hit by a bus which I have asked her to do to spare me the agony of watching her go)
But my mom's mom is another story. Mostly absent, certainly unavailable. I held a lot of resentment toward her for the way she seemed to care more about her other grandchildren or the way she treated my mother. Mostly I feel sorry for her now though. I look at my kids and think she's missing out on them. She missed out on me, I am a wonderful person and she'll never really know how wonderful and special I am b/c she couldn't bother to get to know me. And I truly believe that is her loss not mine. I couldn't have had a better Grand than I do. Even the grandchildren who my mom's mom spent more time with have grown to hold some resentment toward her for her selfish personality.
I don't think your children are missing out. It's their grandparents who are missing out on the opportunity to get to know and love your kids. These are precious times that they won't be able to get back.

Now I'm all teary. I'll have to call my grand to say I love you. She is extremely stoic and totally not emotional so she won't understand and she'll shrug it off, but I'll call anyway.

okay, I need a pattern for a cape of sorts for a man. We have a bus stop dad who had a disease and now he can some days hardly lift his arm out parrallell. We are getting Eagles fleece material and I am in charge of making something he can just drape over his shoulders to keep him warm. I am thinking of a rectangle shape with pockets. Something like I saw on HSN
http://www.vermontoriginals.com/shoulder-wraps/
like this but more manly, does anyone have a pattern or do you think I could just wing it?

:thanks: You know I just remembered that I e-mailed the patterns to myself (at least the one for the skirt...) I'm such a dork!

;) Thanks for filling me in, I was wondering how I was gonna comment on everything, make sure my girls were freshly bathed with perfect hair in every picture, and still find time to learn to sew  Oh and thanks Heather for posting my link!

Here are the fur cuffs I made yesterday. I machine stitched the tube together, then hand basted it onto the sleeve so I can take it off for washing. They were super easy and I'm satisfied, though I didn't enjoy doing it! dd7 loves them, dd2 on the other hand, wanted it off as soon as she put the shirt on! Two more pair to make today, then I'm done with these!

QUOTE=camelotcats;21834087]Hey All!

I'm shocked we didn't get banned from flying air tran ever again, the stuff went EVERYWHERE. (I used the plastic beads you can use for beanbags...they're these little cylinders! They rolled everywhere, it was a health hazard for the poor stewardesses even after they helped us sweep them up.)
 You poor thing trying to clean up the airplane! Gotta keep that tip in mind! :rotfl:

I had mine out about 8 years ago. The surgery wasnt so bad but the staples killed me after a few days. You definately can't bend and lift stuff if thats required....and you arent supposed to drive either. I have a feeling that you may need help with the kiddos for the first few days and maybe cleaning and laundry and that type of thing for the first week or so after surgery. After the initial few days I was fine (I only took pain meds the first day) but those crumby staples hurt until they took them out. I too had my mom come and help out with the kids. If I were by myself, no problem, but with kids asking for this, that, and the other thing, cooking dinner and so on....you may need help! My prayers are with you and your family!

Glad Ireland is doing better...she looks great...and seems she knocked some sense into herself :rolleyes1 :rotfl: Can't wait to see your stuff. I have sewn a few things..I need to take pics and show you all! popcorn::

Hi Everyone,

LOVE all the eye spy bags@!@ cant wait to make some! im going to even put them in the parent newsletter at our hospital - these are so good for developing visual perceptual skils, and fine motor skills too if they are really moving the rice around to find things!!! GREAT IDEAS!!!

Okay - HELP!! My sewing machine is making like this sqealy noise - it chirps first and then a big squeal which makes me jump!! DH oiled and cleaned everything!!! Any other ideas? Its an older Kennmore - I hope it doesnt need to go to the shop cause i need it right now!!!

Did you all see the Joann's flyer for this weekend?

Wendy

I'm looking around  for Aimee G??!! Arent you leaving really soon or did I miss your send off???

I am so excited!! Last night I stayed up 'til midnight optimizing my ruffler!! :woohoo: Before I found this thread, I never would have imagined that I'd type that sentence. :rotfl2: Anyway, if you haven't read the free "ruffler unruffled" PDF from youcanmakethis.com, you've got to read it! If you haven't downloaded it, you have to sign up for their mailing list and then you can download some free patterns and stuff. Anyway, I used the calculations in the tutorial and my ruffle turned out the perfect length for the skirt I was making. It was like MAGIC!!! :wizard:

I tried to find the video on YCMTfor the ruffler foot, but couldn't find the link. Can you PM me teh link, pretty please? I have a cool ruffler but I am making it hard on myself trying to learn how to use it. The instructions are interpreted from swaheelee to broken english. It's a little torture devise looking thingy. I kind of think I need to force the beginning of the fabric a litel but am not sure. SOMwhere I saw a video that made it look easy-peazy...likity split!!!!
