I am here shamelessly boasting about my thread for the holiday card exchange. Please if you have the time, step away from the sewing machines and come visit and let me know what you think....

For you Florida people, is anyone near Bunnell? I have an aunt, uncle and a Grandmother there. When we went to WDW in April we went a day early to see them and then went to Orlando. I saw that some of you were east of Orlando so I was just wondering!

Hi...I live East of Orlando, and I know where Bunnell is...LOL...not much to see there, but I know where it is....LOL

That is very cute!!!!! I was thinking some red/white dot and/or some green/white dot would look good with it. I've never seen it before and I'm not partial to scotties, but I really like that!

I'm another lurker coming out of hiding! After seeing all the amazing creations, I had my mil teach me how to sew. First we made a bumper pad and quilt for dd's room. Then we made this outfit
Picture253.jpg
(hopefully I put that in right!) The smocking was so much easier than I thought it would be. Here's a close up of the smocking
Picture283.jpg
it's really not as dirty as it shows up in the picture! Unfortunately I picked a pattern that was the hardest my mil has seen in her 50+ years of sewing :scared1: She ended up sewing a lot of it!

Then I made this outfit
Picture266.jpg
which was so much easier. It doesn't show in the pictures, but my mil appliqued the characters to the legs of the pants. That encouraged me to move on to my next pattern, not containing the word easy in the title. I'm not sure that project will ever get finished :rolleyes1

Heading back to the beginner projects I made:

The T is for me. I'm hoping to make her a jojo set and my boys (9 and 6) camp shirts (the non-easy project I started awhile ago) and iron on star wars shirts before we leave in 1 month.

Thank you all for the inspiration! Without running into this thread and seeing all the amazing things that could be made I doubt I ever would have started sewing.

Wow, the lurkers know how to come out with a bang!!! They're all cute, I especially love that Pooh outfit! Great job!

There HAS to be more lurkers out there. To all those new posters, WELCOME!!!

2) Yes I did see that story and no, I am not a fish killer! Honestly! :snooty: I am not a fish killer!
Uh Huh, SURE. We believe you, uh huh.

Wow I love all the latest creations!

I really love the Peter Pan shirt. My DS loves Peter Pan.

Today I went looking for some coordinating fabric to go with this
th_IMG_5347.jpg

I have no help, but that fabric is ADORABLE!!!! I especially love the hidden Mickeys!

To those that asked about Morgan's tongue, she is a little better tonight. She talked a little funny today. Poor thing. Ok I admit it the poncho was sympathy....... I felt so bad for her. She picked out the fabric a few weeks ago and has been bugging me to put the white fur on something. So I did. She was so happy when she came home and saw the poncho, I could not get it off her.

And yes Teresajoy I am making one for Jord LOL:banana:

This "mommy" thing sucks when you can't protect them from "oweees". It finally hit me last night why this upset me so. This was the first time since she has been home that she cried when she got hurt. I have seen this child run and fall face first on a marble floor and not even wimper. For so many years of her life she did not know when you fall down mommy kisses your boo boo.
Sorry for the too much information, it gets to me every once in awhile.

Cindee
How did you know I wanted to ask if Jord was getting a matching outfit!! You know, I won a Cabbage Patch Doll back in the Cabbage Patch Doll frenzie of the early 80s. It was a the Kmart just off of 19, near Tarpon. His name is Patrick. I have a soft spot for Cabbage Patch Dolls, and Florida. :)

But, what are you thinking making me cry like this? It breaks my heart that she didn't have a Mommy to kiss her when she fell. How old was Morgan when you adopted her? You are both so lucky to have found each other! :grouphug: There I go crying again, I'm glad we bought Kleenex yesterday.

Ok, now the lurkers are just showing off! ;) These are FANTASTIC!!!! SMOCKING???!!!???!!!! WOW!!!! I love it! I love the Pooh dress, I love the Minnie outfit, I love the t-shirt you made for yourself!!! You got skills!

You're not kidding! There really isn't much to see there! I've only been there once (my Grandma used to live by us until a few years ago) and it was a very short trip through the town!

Welcome to all of the newcomers! I agree with Teresa, really do you have to start off by showing off? :) I think some of you are just trying to make us feel bad!

So I'm getting ready to get started on Thanksgiving outfits for my girls. I washed and dryed all of the fabric and I'm in the middle of ironing it. Am I the only one who does this? I swear half the time of making an outfit is the prep!

I know what you mean! UGGH! I also hate cutting out the patterns, and pinning the patterns! Has anyone tried fabric weights? I think that's what they are called anyway, you use them instead of pins. They just sit on the pattern. I saw some at Field's the other day, and wondered how they worked.

Wow, great outfits and WELCOME! I am so jealous of that smocking! I would love to learn how to do that!

I know! By the time you wash and dry and iron, I am over it! When I get ready to sew something I want to just be able to do it! This is why I've started washing my fabric when I buy it. That way when inspiration hits I can just go!

Seriously the smocking was so much easier than I thought it would be. I bought the plate (pattern) and got a book from the library that explained the stitches. That was the first smocking I've done, and it took 2-3 hours. I think it's easier than sewing! I have a serious problem with staight lines!

Believe me if you could see these outfits close up, you would feel much better about your sewing :rotfl:

To set the record straight-if you ask Morgan- SHE adopted me! And I am not arguing. I pick my battles and that ain't one of them!:rotfl:

btw, I also recommend Puffs with lotion-much better than kleenex LOL

I would guess that they would only work with a rotary cutter. If you tried to use scissors the pattern would move. Right? or am I totally missing something?

All of this talk about cold weather inspired me-

That is sooo cute!!! It just looks so cozy!

That's a really nice book. I really like that you used the pics from previous trips.

Thanks! I had to do SOMETHING with some of the over four thousand pictures I have sitting on my computer's hard drive!

:rotfl2: That is too funny!

Just remember, Teresa and I live in Michigan, so all of you thinking you made the right move by moving away...you're wrong! You're missing out on the Dis Sistas! :lmao:

:snooty: See above :snooty:

Aww, but if I still lived there, then I would probably never have gone to Disney (my then bf would NEVER have taken me like dh did) and if I'd never gone to Disney then I would never have found this board...and if I'd never found this board...I still would have missed out!

Since we've been talking about autograph books (well, a little anyway), I thought I'd share mine. I got the 6x8-ish albums that Target had in the $1 bins last month & took out the posts & added ring clips so I could have as many pages as I wanted. Once we get back from our trip I'll add some ribbons & the pics of dds and the characters.

That is a GREAT idea...I would have never thought to ditch the posts and put it on rings...very cute!

Okay, who put in the ringer? Let's not expect this kind of standard from ALL the lurkers, now shall we?:teeth:

I totally agree! I was thinking the other day as I was ironing some Tink fabric, that I need a special "project fairy"...someone to come in, wash the fabric, iron it, then clean my house while I was sewing, pick up all the threads that I leave behind, then put all my things away, while I bask in the glory of another project finished. That's not too much to ask is it.......really????:rotfl2:

YES! I try to wash & dry my fabric as soon as I get home with it so it's ready when I want to use it. I have found, too, that if I'm good and fold the fabric as soon as it's dry, I don't have to do nearly as much ironing. Also, since I've mostly switched to quilt shop quality fabric, it seems to require much less ironing than the less expensive fabric I used to use.

In addition to all the pre-cutting prep that needs to be done, I often find I spend almost as much time ironing during construction as I do actually sewing. I definitely think it's worth it but it certainly adds to the time to make a garment.

I know what you mean! UGGH! I also hate cutting out the patterns, and pinning the patterns! Has anyone tried fabric weights? I think that's what they are called anyway, you use them instead of pins. They just sit on the pattern. I saw some at Field's the other day, and wondered how they worked.

I improvise with anything that has a good weight for it's size - tuna cans work well. :) Mostly I use the weights for pattern pieces that are fairly simple in shape - like pants, peasant top pieces, etc. It's so much quicker than pinning. I use scissors so I have to be careful that I'm not causing the pattern to shift as I cut.

I want to thank everyone for all of your inspiration. I have seen some great creations posted on this thread.

I hadn't taken my sewing machine out of the box since I was first pregnant with DD5 and decided I was going to make all of her clothes. Nothing I tried to make was ever successful enough for her to wear and after about 2 months of trying I boxed up the machine. This thread inspired me to try making matching outfits for my DD5, DD3 and DN1 for our Sept trip. I have been checking in to read the new posts and see the new wonderful creations several times a day for several months.

Here are some pics from our Sept Trip. All of these were cased ideas on this thread so a big thanks to all....

OOPS...I think I need one more post before I can post pictures.
