Love the leopard Santa print, I've got 2 1/2 yrds. of it and I'm not sure what to do with it though! All of our Hobby Lobby's are sold out of it right now and I got the last of it about a month ago at one of them. Is there anyway you could cut off the overalls at the bib and make a skirt for it? Maybe then you could use some of what you've got done. The Cinderella overalls are cute too!

Didn't think about that! But, I've already placed them somewhere which must not be named!

Hey, can I join the fun here girls?:mickeyjum Love, love, love the creations! I stumbled on this forum & I'm sooo inspired for our next trip! I made a Mickey quilt for the plane, a weighted Mickey vest for DS, T-Shirts, & custom beach buckets for our last trip to Disneyland, CA-nothing compared to the beauties that have been created here!;)

I do custom overalls, pjs & Tees for my little Princes (along with lots of other sewing projects). Curious how others work with appliques on the bibs of overalls? Do you tend to buy without pockets, rip out the pockets, or sew fabric over the pockets? I've done all of the above!! :rotfl:
:welcome: Of course you can join the fun! The more the merrier!

My first DD was 9 lb 1 oz, second was 7 lb 14 oz and induced early. I never thought I was going to be "right" after the first one though! Sorry if that's TMI!

My first DD was 8lb 15oz and I definitely know what you mean about not being "right" again!!! I think it took months to feel in the mood again and then I got pregnant with my DS(they are 14 mos apart)!!! Who ended up being 9lb 8oz and I didn't let my DH touch me for a LONGGGGG time!!!:rotfl2: I finally felt back to normal again and then got prego with most recent DS who I said was before was 9lbs and almost two weeks early, thank God I was induced early!!!!

Thank you for your kind words.

I am humbled and amazed at all the attention that these items have gotten.

I am not sure how well that "Mrs. Potato Head" rag would do?:rolleyes1

I have already had a few interested "vutures" eye it already!

"ObsessedwiththeMouse"....loved your Mickey overalls for DS! Did you do the applique or purchase it? The little dude duds are so infrequent, I just love when I catch these posted! Yours are awesome!

:welcome: Glad to have you! Now, please show pictures of your creations so we can all copy them!:rotfl:

I just have to post pictures of my Oscar! He wants to be famous too!
P8060432.jpg
[/IMG] He's a big baby and wants very much to be a lap dog! Here he is trying to snuggle with me while I hold DD2.

P8060433.jpg
[/IMG]This is Oscar and me while I'm holding DD2 as an infant. As you can see, he's bigger than my couch!

P1220121.jpg
[/IMG] This is DD4 when she was about 2 1/2 using him as a couch! He's a good boy! This is why he's my buddy. My kids can do whatever they want to him and he doesn't even move or blink an eye!

P7220063.jpg
This is my sister playing with him on the floor. As you can see he's about as long as she is (she's around 5'4").

Oscar is my shadow and is about as under foot as a dog that size can be. Most people think he must be an outside dog but he is a people person. If he is left outside for too long (in his opinion) he cries to get back inside! I am definitely a dog person and I wouldn't trade him for the world (most days anyway)!

WOW have I missed a lot. It's been so nice here the last few days that I've been outside enjoying the weather. Today is rainy and it's getting colder. So, I'm back (although I've only been gone a couple of days).

I love looking at everyone's pics from the World. Those are my favorite ones! I've seen lots of great creations lately. I'm working on a few more myself. I finished the Minnie twirl skirts and matching tops. I'll have to take some pics. Next are some princess dresses. That blanket of mine just keeps getting pushed back. I do want it finished for our Feb trip, though.

I'm starting some t-shirt dresses with an empire waist. I want the dresses to be very twirly. Duh! Anyway, I cut the shirts to where I want them and am ready to cut the fabric. Should I angle the cuts of the fabric so there's not so much fabric to sew to the shirt? I'm only doing one fabric, not a stripwork. If I cut it at an angle, will that look dumb? By angle, I mean kind of like a triangle. More fabric at the bottom and less at the top. But since I'm only using one fabric, that might not work. It's a princess fabric and I can just see their heads being chopped off because I made a triangle. Does this make any sense?

Chantell

I was just thinking about you! I'm glad you have a good time and I can't wait to see the rest of the outfits (that got worn). I had a question about those little furry cuffs your daughter wore I think with a Halloween outfit. Do you think I could wrap a boa around elastic and make them that way? I was thinking about easy way to slide them on and off. How were yours made? Thanks and welcome back!

I don't know if you crochet or not, (I don't) but I bought a pattern on YCMT for crocheted fur cuffs and gave it to my SIL who does crochet. She is going crazy making me removable "fur" cuffs for my DDs. They are very fluffy and remind me of mairbou but, unlike the little mairbou pair I have, nothing pulls off, no "fluff" sticks to their t-shirts. They are so cool! They are removable and washable and one size really fits all! From Dniece 12 months to overweight me. She is making some to sell at the Christmas boutique she does every year. I will have to get some pictures up for you guys. I love them so much I almost don't want her to sell any just so my girls will be the only ones in town who have them! :rotfl:

I don't angle it, but that might just be me. Good luck!

Sounds cute! I'd love to see pics. My dd16 knits, and I've been wanting her to try some, but she refuses!

I tried to pm you, but it won't work, maybe you can pm me and let me know where to find the appliques!

We are back from our cruise. What a let down that now I don't have a trip to plan for! My DD had way too many outfits and had several that were never worn! Here is a picture to start you off. Hopefully I can post more the end of the week, lots of catch up for now!

Welcome! (pretend I'm not too lazy to look for it, and insert fancy Welcome smiley here). Please share some of your creations !

Schnockered is too funny! I love it!

And Teresa, no epidural? Are you kidding me? My bestfriend for 26 years is an Ob/Gyn in Bloomington, IL (anyone from that area that needs a recommendation, let me know!) and she says she wouldn't let anyone work on her teeth w/o pain killers so why would you let them not give you anything for childbirth. I had epidurals for both girls, although the first one wore off before I got to pushing (of course, she was 9lb1oz:) !) but at least I had it for several hours before that. I begged my doctor with my second induction to give the epidural before I started the pitocin or before she broke my water but it was no good, darn that hospital policy! I feel no need to feel any pain if at all possible! You're a brave girl for even going to a hospital with that policy!

Well, I didn't know about this policy until we started taking Lamaze classes, right at the end of my pregnancy! UGGH! It was H O R R I B L E!!!!!! The absolute WORST 36 hours of my life!!! The second he was born though, it was the BEST time of my life!!! But, I am not one of those "Oh once they place that baby in your arms you forget all about the pain" kind of people. Even now, 15+ years later, I shudder at the thought of the horrible-unbearable-almost-inhuman amount of pain I went through!
Very cute outfit! DD4 calls glitter in her hair sprinkles too. :rotfl:

With all the pets being posted, I have to share too. Her name is Chewbacca, but we call her Chewie. Yes, dh does love Star Wars, thanks for asking. ;) I had to promise him we cuold use that name if we got a cat because he kinda wanted a dog, but I'm soooooooo not a dog person.

OHHH BEAUTIFUL Kitty!!!!!! Cats Rule Dogs Drool!

ok

im sure alot of you saw this already, but someone recommended i post this here...so here it goes

th_IMG_1392.jpg

hehe, that was me! I'm glad you posted it!!! I knew everyone here would love to see it!!! It is just amazing!!! Do you have any idea how many inches of rhinestones you used for this? I saw some cheap ones at Walmart (plastic), and while it wouldn't look as fabulous as yours, it might be within my price range!

Since everybody is sharing pics of there pets I thought I would share some too.

This is my Molly. She is a 2 year old Beagle.

This is my ds' dog, Patches. He is a 5 year old Lab/Dalmatian mix. We brought him home 4 weeks before Gladys was born.

Such sweet looking pets everyone has!

DS wanted to take the kitten home with us- He said he didn't want a pet dog anymore.

Now, that's my kind of boy!!!
Your kids look so cute!

I am thouroughly impressed by this entire board. This coming from someone who bought a Mickey head cross-stitch kit this weekend (you know the one; basic, supposedly easy). I gave up after the first ear. ;) . Granted, I did take home-ec for two years in high school and made an attempt of a skirt. Oh jesh, that thing was wrong, wrong, wrong in so many ways.

Again, thanks for sharing your work.

You should try a twirl skirt or a pillowcase dress! You can do it, we will help you out!
Awww..Chewie is so cute! I had a little calico kitty, when I was kid, named Tiffany. But, we called her T... No, we didn't call her T, but that would have been funny if we did!
Aww, Tiffany was a beautiful cat! Even my Mom loved her!
Your dogs are so cute!! I must admit, I have a slight aversion to beagles because my brother has an awful beagle that bites my niece all of the time and destroys everything in their house (that my husband and dad built). But, yours looks to sweet for that kind of behavior!
Our brother's dog is one of the world's worst dogs! He is awful. But, my SIL law loves the stupid thing. So, they keep him, and my poor neice will bare the scars. (OOOH, it makes me so mad!)

I haven't shared pics in a while, so I though I'd share something that I've actually been working on. Simple set, but will be really comfy for the holidays. Sorry no model. She's napping.

I need to take a few more pics, and I'll share later.
Aww, very cute!!!

Hi Everyone,

Well, we had a summer style day here in the Philly area - we headed down the shore, and 14 yo DN and I actually were swimming in the ocean!! In October!!! Cant believe this crazy weather!!

I was wondering if anyone out there has made bib's for people with special needs that would need a larger size for drooling and such - a friend at work is asking me if I could make some for her 15 year old sister - any tips?

THanks, wendy

Are you talking about a bib (around the neck), or bib overalls? I thought I'd seen an online pattern for adult bibs. I will try and check. I have some things like that in my charity section of the bookmarks. But, I'm not sure if I have a bib one there or not.

Where did you see this? I am amazed at all the views and watchers I have!

I never knew that I would be "famous"!:confused3

Aww, WE knew Tom!

I just have to post pictures of my Oscar! He wants to be famous too!

Teresa already asked the question-about bibs or bib overalls- If it is Bibs I would take a hand towel and make a circular hole in it- not in the middle but sort off centered. know what I mean? Then put ribbing around the edges of the hole. You could put any kind of applique that you wanted on the bib part- but use an absorbent type of fabric. Also, instead of cutting a hole you could add ties to the sides and still put a cool applique on the towel part. I've seen these types for both babies and adults- just use different towel sizes. You could make the towel with the terry fabric but the towels already have the edges finished, saving a step in the process. Hope this helps.

THIS IS HOW I "PREP" OVERALLS for APPLIQUE WORK :
IF I am using o'alls that have a bib pocket, I usually remove it completely.
But this (usually) leaves those nasty stitch-lines & darker areas where the pocket WAS.
So, I either :
1. leave the bib blank & make sure the applique I'm applying covers all "offensive lines & dark areas" :) ...
but sometimes, that's not always possible.
In this case I will opt to :
2. remove the bib pocket & cover the entire bib with a contrasting background fabric, and apply my applique to the front of the bib on top of that fabric cover.
I seal the fabric down with lightweight wonder-under, + fold over edges & stitch them down.
Depending on the large bib applique, I stop the bib cover fabric at the waistband ~OR~ continue a bit farther down, closer to the front hip pockets

FRONT HIP POCKETS =
the thinner white pockets right under the waistband, by the hips ...
I steam-a-seam them down flat to the inside of the o'all.
Before I stared doing this, I had a couple of pockets fold up on me WHILE I was appliquing over them.
I didn't realize it until it was toooo late, and it was a nasty, lumpy mess =
that had to be ripped out & redone ...
I totally avoid THAT now :)
FIRST, I turn the o'alls inside out & press them flat (this also "pre-shrinks them a tad, you'll understand when you try it) ...
Then, I use "steam-a-seam" (1/2" wide, comes on a spool) the pocket flat to the inside of the overalls, & pretty much ignore them, after that.
This helps to keep them flat while you work over them from the outside.
Turns out really professional looking :)

BACK POCKETS = sort-of the same as bib pockets =
Remove the pocket & try to cover with appliques
OR ignore & leave them, as they are.

HAMMER / TOOL STRAPS =
I remove leg straps, IF they don't go with my applique theme.
You can cut them off at the seams they are attached at, but that leaves a bulky seam & back pocket edge ...
IF that does not bother you, leave it like that.
IF that bulky-ness bothers you, you can cut the stitching in those areas and remove the strap bit inside that seam & out from under the back pocket ...
Then, replace the stitching & "Orange" top stitching, as needed, to make it all blend back in & seal the side seam hole.

LEG POCKETS =
those neat little squared-of leg pockets ...
Sometimes, they require too much effort to dispose of, or the results of trying will not look great =
So, generally I ignore the& work around them.
But, IF the appliques can cover it = I remove that pocket & cover that spot. :)

TO WORK ON THE LEGS EASILY =
Don't forget that you can undo the INSEAM (that's the seam down the insides of the legs).
This way, you can easily work on the legs as flat panels. :)!
When you are done with your appliques, replace the inseam ...
Add ruffles before or after you do the inseam = you'll figure out which one's easier for you.

PRE-WASH = Don't forget to TRY to pre-wash your darker overalls,
BEFORE you do appliques.
SOMETIMES, later the denim's darker colors can BLEED BLUE into the appliques & ruffles, in the wash AND/OR even if you hand wash and HANG DRY. :(

That's about it, right?! Good Luck ... Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the great tips. We are planning a Surprise Christmas morning trip to Disneyland for the girls. And I decided on Overalls for the three. Your tips will come in handy when I am working on them late at night so they don't see them. I am so excited. Thanks again.:flower3:

Oscar looks like he gives SLURPY wet kisses! He does nees a boutique outfit! Like Buzz Lightyear or Mater (wouldn't that be cute!)

Ok, I've been slacking lately but now have the fixings to do fleece hoodies for my kids as well as PJ's! Yayyyy!

This morning I tried to put this Osh Kosh overall dress on dd3 size 3t. It's WAYYYYYYYYY too short! But the top part, the bib, fits fine. What should I do? twirl skirt the bottom? regular "A" shape (no panels) with a ruffle? What has any of you done in this situation?

How about I just buy them, then you can be the only ones in town with them! No, I don't crochet but I would love to see pictures of them. They sound really neat! Does she take internet orders?

Flece hoodies sound so cozy right now! I'm freezing today!

I like the idea of a twirl skirt for the overall dress.
