AWWWW that is so sweet! What a great picture! I remember Lisa (or is it Elisa?) posting that outfit before. Those two are SOOOOO adorable!!!!

We got our family pictures out of the way!!!! My nephew did a great job. There were some really great ones from the time he came to my house. There was one that was hilarious of Drew 5, twisting Riley 10's ear and she is just smiling into the camera like a little model while Riley's face is all scrunched up! It very much shows who they really are.

I was feeling disgusting while I did the pictures. I have several zits, my muffin top was bad (even with the support top hose with the legs cut off that I wore to try to disguise it) and the hair just wasn't working. Riley's was o.k., but poor Drew's just went back to it's original state no matter what I did. Oh well. It's a picture of us how we really are, very imperfect!!!!

Can't wait to get sewing again! I'll have to post a pic of Drew in the dress I made her for today when I get on tomorrow.

Are the pictures going to be on his website? I bet you looked great! Perfect pictures are overrated anyway! Natural is best!

Is it elastic?

Here is sort of a back view of the headband. I didn't know what I was doing, so any of you our there who actually know how to make a jeweled headband, let me know! What I did was use 2 strands of regular beading wire, strung together at times, and seperating at times for the double row effect. If I were making a bracelet or necklace I would've used a solid jump ring on one end and a lobster claw on the other. On the headband I used a solid jump ring on each end and looped a piece of ribbon through both and tied it on with the ribbon. It really didn't stay put until I had her hair in the pony tails. I mentioned before that I am surprised it lasted all day without falling out so something's working! Elastic would be great, I have some elastic beading cord but do not know how to use it I used it to make bracelets for DD10s American Girl dolls but they broke because I just tied the ends and they came undone.

I found a drop waist dress at Belks yesterday for $1.98 that totally wanted to be "transformed" into my Gatsby dress for halloween. I'm pretty exicted. and I was going to knit a cloche hat (which I still want to do) but my mom said "Will this straw hat work?" and it totally will, but it is brown and I need to dye it black- has anyone ever dyed a straw hat before. I was thinking I may need to spray paint it, but I'm not sure how that will hold up. Today at CVS they had all of these hair accessories 90% off and I found a pony tail holder w/ a flower on it that is JUST PERFECT for my cloche hat for .$0.29!!! B was fussing about spending money on costumes and things are just falling into place...I'm so excited!!

Sounds like you were meant to be in that costume!

WOW lots of choices at sewzennes. I am going to have to shop that one. I got a Burda pattern that is for stretch knits only and it had leggings which I want to make for Makayla. Only way she will be able to wear any of the things I have planned for her this winter. Thanks a million! I know what you mean about tee's. Nothing fits her in a teeshirt...I love to custom make everytrhing to fit her just "so".

I made Zoe several tiered skirts for school and then it suddenly started getting cold so I'm very glad I'd bought some leggings but of course they aren't the fun colors I'd prefer to have - like hot pink and lime green! LOL I saw some cute pink leggings at TCP today but they don't seem any thicker than regular tights. The rib knit at JoAnns is a nice weight and should be nice and warm.

Love that Zoe...what a pretty kid...she is growing up so fast...it doesn't take long, unfortunately. Both of you are so blessed. I get teary eyed every time I see the two of you. Adoption is so wonderful. Susan

Thank you! I've been touched by your stories and felt tears form when I saw the photos of Nicholas. When I started checking into adoption, I was planning to try for international adoption but things just fell into place to do a US adoption. Between my first contact with the local adoption agency and getting the call about Zoe, less than 4 months had passed. She was 4 weeks old at the time and was expected to be adopted by a couple but they had to put their adoption plans on hold because of financial changes. I think all my paperwork had just made it to the adoption agency a few days before they were told about this little girl in Florida waiting for a home. I was holding her in my arms a week later and still can't believe how lucky I am that everything seemed to fall into place without any problems.

Thanks everyone! My dd will wear the halloween skirt to the pumpkin patch tomorrow. Now I want to make her one of those t-shirt dress. I think I know how to attach the skirt to the t-shirt, but not sure about the pattern of the skirt.... do I just measure the hem of the t-shirt, and then cut out fabric about twice the length of the hem of the t-shirt to attach to the t-shirt? I think I will cut two piece for the skirt - one for the front of the skirt, and one for the back of the skirt...would the two pieces be just rectangle in shape, or should I angle them? Am I making sense? Any tips on making a t-shirt dress would be very much appreciated!

For the nightgown I made, I used two rectangles sewn together at the sides. They were about double the width of the tshirt. I gathered them to fit and pinned in place before stitching. I used one of the stretch stitches on my sewing machine and a ball point/jersey needle. After I'd sewn it, I removed the gathering threads so the seam will stretch still.

What kind of thread do you use when working with knits? I am guessing there has to be some "give" to the thread.

I use the same thread as I would woven cotton. I do suggest using a ball point sewing needle, though. They're sometimes labeled as jersey needles. They aren't as sharp as needles meant for wovens. They rounded tip helps the needle go between the threads rather than through them because that might make the threads break and cause a run in the knit. Also, the women who did the workshop had people do tests of different stitches on the knits before we actually started on a garment. I used the stretch stitch on my machine that looks like a lightning bolt. Zigzag will work as well as many decorative stitches. Try out some on your machine and stretch the sample fabric to see which will stretch with the fabric rather than having the thread break.

GRRR out of all of the pack rats I know... tell me NOONE has any leftover black velvet or ivory lace fabrics??? Someone has to have something worth covering this straw hat w/!!!

I have some black crushed velvet I'd be happy to send to you. If you PM me with your address, I can get it sent out in the next day or two. Do you think 1/3 of a yard would be enough? I think I have more so just let me know.

Alright here is the double layer twirl skirt that I made to match the lime green mickey head tee. I didn't use a pattern so I think it may be a little too twirly but oh well.

I don't think it's possible for a skirt to be too twirly as long as the weight of the fabric doesn't cause the skirt to fall off.

These are the hats I was saying that I love!

I made the girls pumpkin hats to wear with their Halloween outfits (or whenever dd4 decides she needs a hat, she wears themw ith everything). Of course, the hats are fleece & still in the 70's now & 2 days ago it was nearly 90, but maybe they'll get to wear them.

I also made them princess pants outfits to wear when we eat lunch with the princesses in Epcot. I sorta Franken-cased them for an auction & saw on ebay. They used a Zuma pants pattern & I'm too cheap, no frugal, to buy the pattern so I just made wide legged pants.

HONEY....Muffin Toppers are not attractive!!!! You did make me laugh though!!

I personally have Muffin Topper TOPPERS. Yep proud owner of several "rolls" I'm thinking though without them, the "girls" would be at my knees!!!!

I met Castlecreations yesterday. Totally unplanned! LOL. My DD and I went to Sea World (she NEEDED a place to wear her non-Disney pirate dress). As we were wandering around, I spied HAIRBOWS I recognized from this site. The outift threw me (Castle did your little one wear that outfit in the pictures you posted before?) for a minute but I recognized the ponytails!

I approached the Mom and asked if she was Dis'er. It was Castlecreations. Our girls became fast friends as they watched the Elmo Halloween show.

Funny(sad!) Muffin Top story: I recently accidentally took some ULTRA low rise jeans into a fitting room. WHY they make these in size 16, is beyond me! Anyway I did notice on the tag the SUPER low rise label but decided to try them on anyway. Now, I've had 4 c-sections and am a good 30-40 pounds overweight. I pulled them up up up...but they STOP abruptly WAYYYYYY too low. I managed to button and exhale. OMGosh! I cant SCRATCH that image out of my memory!!!!! IF I were to purchase these jeans, I would not be able to bend more than 15 degrees without showing a 4inch bum crack. NOT to mention the need for a uncomfortable WAX job down there. I think I laughed that silent-wheezing-teary-gut-laugh till I hurt. I did buy the mid rise, 1 inch below my belly button jeans like the good Lord intended, but often get a good laugh at the disaster of ultra low rise jeans on this carcass.

I was always amazed at how pretty her daughter was, and her gorgeous front yard. She sewed all the outfits she made her kids by hand too. I didn't know her real well either, but I always liked to see her posting here. I didn't realize that her little boy was so close in age to Sawyer. They are cute at any age, but at this age they are just so FULL of joy and happiness, it just breaks my heart.

I can say with the utmost authority that Chocolate is indeed a vegetable and healthy! When we went through the South Bend Chocolate Factory tour a few months ago, our (very funny) tour guide told us exactly that. She also told us that since chocolate is a vegetable, brownies are health food!
