I had (HAVE actually he is 30!!!) a horse, a thoroughbred. Lovely chestnut with bold whited stripe on his face. He was my savior in H.S. I was one of those very popular girls, who secretly had a horendous life. i think they've made teen movies with that theme. Anyway his name is Tide Turner (retired racehorse) I called him Sunshine. Since I was preggers with number 1 son (16 years ago now) he has just been a "barn buddy" and loving retired life. He is a kind a gentle soul, the exact opposite of the stereotypical thoroughbred.

I was having trouble adjusting to having a girl. Silly really, but I kept saying, "what will I do with a girl? I am not girly. I so wanted a third son." Well about 2 weeks after finding out it was a girl (still early pregnancy) I sat up on the couch and said, "Oh my God she can have a pony." It's been wonderful ever since. I guess I was just a little panicked at having a girl. We had the two living boys, lost one son after having DS #2, so I just knew we were having a boy. I mean come on after 3 boys, who wouldn't think I was preggers with a boy???

Sorry so off topic, but to bring it back on, you should see all of the HORSE themed customs I have for DD!!! Oh yeah gymbo horse stuff too...does that help??

I didn't make it, but I am pretty sure this skirt is a modified version of it! I love this skirt. I am probably going to make a holiday skirt from the pattern.

I am now printing off the instructions for the Layered Tulle Twirl Skirt from YCMT. We'll see how it goes! I don't know how some of you complete things so fast, it takes me weeks it seems! I'll have to get going though, this is a halloween skirt and I want my girls to wear them a few times in October which is right around the corner! Yikes!

As far as Heather goes with the orange bubble skirt, mine was hot pink with an irridescent sheen to it! Very classy!!! I also had a navy blue one that was better but way too short and strapless. I'm sure there are some "ladies of the night" out there that would love them! I really can't believe that I see the bubble skirts back in some of the stores. Who wants all of that bulk right at your thighs??????????

I had a pony growing up too. He was a little gray welsh guy named Shamrock. He was as sweet as a puppy. Once we crashed going over a jump and I got a concussion. He didn't leave my side until someone pulled him away sot he ambulance could get through.

WOW, what a pony! That is such a sweet story!

So....about the cute pony pics and stories. I have a pic of me riding a Welsh/Quarter Horse cross pony this summer. I love the pic with his eye shut...he looks soooo sleepy

This is way OT. I can't even think of a way to segway back to sewing other than to say that people sew and sell those large saddle pad for $40-$60 each! Everything with horses is expensive!

And, about staying on topic, maybe you've noticed, we tend to get a bit side tracked around here! Actually, I don't even think this was SUPPOSE to be a sewing thread when the OP started it!! I just feel like that was the ring that DH put on my finger when he promised to love me forever. It is way to sentimental.

My Mom replaced her wedding ring a few years ago. Heather and I were pretty upset about it! Mom didn't want to, but the band was getting to thin after 40 years, and none of the jewelers around thought they could fix it. They were talking about basically redoing the entire ring, so most of it wouldn't have been original anymore. Her new one is nice, but it's just not the same. It seems like Dad didn't think it was such a big deal though.

Oh, Maureen, now YOU are making me cry! I am so sorry about the baby you lost. I had similar feelings when I found out I was pregnant with Arminda. (We had lost two babies after Corey was born, two boys) I just wasn't sure if I'd know how to raise a girl, and I was a girly girl. You know, I haven't thought about that in a long time, I almost forgot I had felt that way. Now though, I don't know what I was worried about!

It takes me FOREVER to get going on any project!!! I think about it a lot, and then I procrastinate a lot! It's kind of fun though, planning out an outfit!! Before I found this board, I didn't think I'd ever be able to actually make an outfit without a pattern, but now I see that it isn't that hard! You guys are great!

And, I really wish I could find a picture of Heather in that bubble skirt! Actually, I thought she looked pretty darn cute at the time! Of course, I thought she looked cute in pretty much anything! It was a dress I think. It had a little bolero jacket with it, that I liked to steal from her!

here is my first attempt at a shirred top ( I would do another now that I have it figured out)...needed to wind the elastic thread tightly onto the bobbin and it works like a charm..I did it in one peice around...by the 3rd or 4th row it starts to look right...

the hot fix gun I got was about $15, but you can put them down with an iron also...I got the crystals from www.hotfixqueen.com , much cheaper than at craft stores and free shipping received them in 2 days !

You've given me inspiration to try shirring today. I was thinking about it, and when I read your post I decided I will do it!! Wish me luck!

you can do it !..it was a real pain to wrap the bobbin tightly with the elastic thread...it kept slipping from my fingers and unwinding - probably a better way, but I couldn't figure it out - if I just wrapped it on not tightly it didn't gather up and I couldn't pull it all tight up at the end with the loose threads, that might work if you are doing a short peice....when the elastic bobbin emptied in the middle of a row I did come back and tie the 2 peices together and I tied all the loose peices to each other at the ends and stitched from top to bottom over all the elastic and threads to make sure everything stayed in place...took about an hour once I got going...GOOD LUCK

I haven't made one but it certainly looks straightforward. Basically, you make two skirts that are sewn to the same yoke at the waist. The bottom skirt layer just needs to be longer to show but otherwise I don't think it's any different from a stripwork skirt that is one layer as long as it has the yoke. I'm actually thinking of doing a few quick Halloween skirts to this weekend so I'll let you know if I do a double layer one.

Oh, I empathisize about procrastination. I have a big problem doing that and someday I'll get better. I have so many ideas for designs and usually have a few in progress but too often they just don't get done or take a couple of months to finally get completed. I do so much better when I have a specific deadline that isn't too far off. Setting my own deadlines doesn't work for me but it's amazing what I can get done when someone else gives me a deadline.

YOU procrastinate??? You seem like you are always on top of things! I know what you mean about having a deadline! If I know I have to have something done by a certain time, I get it done (at the last minute, but at least it's done!) But, to leave it up to me, I put it off and put it off!!

Try lowering the tension on your upper thread. I normally have mine set around 5-6 but with applique I lower it to between 4-5. That allows the upper thread to be pulled more to the back to reduce the chance of the bobbin thread showing.

Thanks Lisa! I tried lowering the tension, but still had the same problem. It's a pretty old machine, so that could be the problem. DH bought it for me when I was 17.

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts! Tessa feels fine today, thankfully. But, when I went to get Sawyer out of bed this morning, he threw up all over me. He also has a fever of 101. Poor baby...poor Mommy. I haven't left the house since Sunday, so DH is going to watch the kids for me after he's done working today so I can go to Joann's!

Heather graduated in 1992 too! Days before she became an aunt! She had a bubble skirt too. I do belive it was orange.

It was PEACH!! Anyway, it was a cotton dress with spaghetti straps and it has a short sleeved balero jacket with it. I got it for our 8th grade banquet. But, then they cancelled the banquet.
