I need some help. Those of you who have done appliqued letters, what are you using as a stencil or how are you getting the letters cut out? Does this question make sense? :confused3

We bought Butterick 5439 - I thought it looked like a good one for him to start with (although we will probably leave off the rick-rack the pattern uses). Now all we have to do is find the pink camo fabric he wants. The lady at JoAnn's told us that it has been so popular that they sell out of it almost as soon as it comes in (the last time they got a bolt in, someone bought the whole bolt the first day.) I know I've seen it at a few places recently, so what a wonderful excuse to hit more fabric stores!?!

Now I just need to get him interested in Disney customs and o.k. planning for her first trip.

I think it is great that he wants to help sew!!! Also that pink camo is at walmart and is much cheeper than joannes!!!

now that one of my fellow disers clued me in...ill post another pic. this is a tshirt dress i made emma for western sunday @ church. my tshirt pulled too (like a pp mentioned) so i too added a last minute sash! not great, but she loves it! sorry the pics are so huge...dont expect miracles, i just learned how to post em, next weeks lesson is how to resize!:rotfl:

I love the tee shirt dress. I also had to add a sash to mine. I did however buy a walking foot (as suggested by someone here) and that has helped a lot. I got the walking foot at the Stiching Post for $10.00. It was $20, but the person in line before me had a 50% off Q, she was trying to use to buy a gift card. When that was not allowed she handed it to me and asked it I could use it :) I was thrilled! Anyway- it has also helped me keep my stiching straight when adding ruffle to DD's jeans.

Well, here is the complete tinkerbell outfit that I gave to my neice. (It has a peasant shirt too but it was too warm for her to wear it!) I made the korkers too. Not sure you can tell - the jeans have bling fairy dust going down the leg by Tink. She really liked it (can't quite tell from the pictures!!) She wanted to try it on right away, and my SIL had a hard time getting it off her that night!) Of course I decided to make the dres for bitty baby at the last minute!!

Now all I need to do is make another set for DD!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Tink outfit. I am not even a huge Tink fan, but this is so cute. I may have to try and CASE this. I think I remember you saying you got the jeans from :wizard: correct? Would you mind giving me a name to search for? Thanks in advance. You did a wonderful job.

I thought WalMart might have been one of the places I've seen the pink camo... I'll have to go check them out today. Thanks!

I almost bought a walking foot at JoAnn's yesterday, but decided on the ruffler foot (with my 40% off coupon). Next coupon I think I will have to get the walking foot. Sounds like it will be a help for the sock monkey flannel rag quilt I have planned.

I love it! You should be very proud!

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. My daughter loves the idea of adding the bling skull & cross bones. But where would you add it to? The skirt? The corset?
th_100_0253.jpg

I vote for the skirt... well, maybe the top... no the skirt!

So exactly how does this work again? How do you make and bake korkers? Do you have a website....uh oh...I know...go check TeresaJoy's bookmarks right???

I'm sure there are instructions there, but basically I tightly wrap ribbon around a 3/8" dowel and bake at 275 for 15 minutes. Use clothes pins to hold your ribbon in place on both ends.

I use paint or wordpad to get the letters to the size I need then print them out and trace onto my heat'n'bond. Make sure you trace the letter backwards so that it will be right when you iron it down. It's confusing, but trust me always trace letters backwards!

When I first saw that picture I thought "wow, she CASED Leslie perfectly!" Then I realized it was you that posted and decided it was time for my morning coffee!!! :rotfl: I love the korkers, I've baked some, but not done anything with them yet. Only here would that not sound strange!

Yay! I can use my 40% coupon for that!!!! Can you remember how much it was?

I think it was $16-18, I got $6 off of it. :cheer2:

Ok, just over a month ago I did not even know how to turn on a sewing machine :rolleyes1 Thanks to this thread I have been inspired to learn how to sew even though I have no kids to sew for  I know this thread is called the "KIDS Disney boutique/custom clothes" but I am a kid at heart, a Disney fan and everyone here has made me feel very welome, you guys are great :grouphug: The outfit is for me to wear to WDW the top is a modified Simplicity 4176 view c and the bottoms are capri jeans that I cut the upturned cuff off of it and then added the ruffles to :thumbsup2

I will post a pic of it on later when DH gets home. I made the top longer than the pattern called for (with help of my instructor) so it would hide a few caloric sins :rotfl:

Thanks for letting me share :cheer2:

This looks great: can I ask a question? I bought this pattern and my mom started to make a top for me with it and it was too tight I couldn't get it past my shoulders. Did you make it the size that you wear and were you able to get it on ok? We can't figure out what happened.

I am a scrapbooker so I have a million fonts saved on my computer. I find the one I want and then print out the letters in Word and then cut the paper and fabric out at the same time. Hope this helps!

Well, I finally got caught up and most of the posts I flagged to quote didn't get added. Sorry, I'm not going back through 30+ pages. LOL If I was asked a specific question, please feel free to post again or PM me. I'll try to answer as soon as possible.

I've seen some gorgeous work shown recently, especially some of the applique! Great job all!!!   I also am loving the Animal Kingdom sets I've been seeing. :dance3: I have several animal prints that are begging me to do something with them soon. :lmao:

Sorry I haven't been around much but I'm still working to get caught up on orders after my illness last week. Zoe and I are off to do some shopping for tees to applique and then it's back to work.

Here are a few of my projects from the past week or so:

I also am trying to learn how to sew knits so I can make my own tees as well as other items. Here's a bad photo of Zoe wearing my first attempt. It's not prefect but she loves it so that's what matters.

Again, not having a computer makes it really hard to keep up around here. Our internet has been restricted at work so I can't even go on there anymore...But it should be functioning fully in the next couple of weeks and I'll be able to keep up w/ all your gorgeous outfits better.

I'd just like to say Kudos to all of you who are first time sewers and posting those outfits. They're great. it takes practice. I know I'm still a newby myself but I have lots of great seamstress-es in my life to help out when I'm in over my head!!:) I don't think I could do it without them.

I am still working on my AK outfit. My machine is still down, so sewing at my inlaws and it's tricky sometimes. I feel like I have to constantly leave the machine to make sure my kids aren't destroying the house or annoying their grandparents. Moreso than normal visits, ya know. But I am here today to finish adding the ruffle and attaching the skirt. so hopefully pics today. keep your fingers crossed.

The next outfit will be Epcot- and I wanna applique one of the friends around the world on the shirt- I think I'll make a practice run first this time.I'm a little nervous about it. it's a little more detailed than the mickey head and we all know how that went.

HALLOWEEN...the votes are in and Liliana is going to be a newspaper boy. I really love the idea of making her a little layered skirt/ corset gangster outfit but if I do the newspaper boy then there is less effort ( I'm already making her customs and have the rest of our costumes to work on.) and everyone thinks it'll be super cute. I'm gonna make her a cute little canvas newspaper bag to carry her candy in though- We go to the worls in just over a month- I can't wait. Current financial issues (work has been slow) are going to make it less than the dream vacation I have come to expect when I go to WDW but we are going to be on vacation for a whole week so I'm just going to try to enjoy it.

Well, if I'm gonna finish her AK outfit I'd better shake a leg... I'll keep you posted!
...t.

For the jeans search Tinkerbell jeans. There is usually one or two auctions going with these jeans - usually a resell. (from no particular seller)

Love those Christmas shirts!!! I like how Zoe is working that shirt! She's a cutie!

I normally wear a 12 and I followed the pattern for 36" bust line which is a 14 and as you can see in the picture it is STILL very snug up top. I mean "the girls" are stapped in pretty tight in this thing. :lmao: I have to sort of do a little jig just to get it on :dance3: I hope to drop a few pounds by my trip though.

Oh you look so cute in it! I followed my size exactly but the seam under the bust was so tight no amount of jigging was getting me in it! Maybe I will try the next size up but I would hate to waste more fabric.

Hey, I bought some fabric at the quilt shop and a pattern for something for Megan:

100_1796.jpg

The stripes are for the capris, the flowers are for the top and the pink is for the lining on the top. My question is for the designers...I am planning on adding a strip of the flowers to the bottom of the capris, should I add some of the stripes to the top? If you can't see the pattern it has several layers and I could mix the flowers and stripes. I don't know if it would be too much. I wish I had the eye for design that some of you have. Any opinions would be appreciated!

You look so pretty in your custom Disney outfit!!!! I like it!

I love those fabrics together, but I'm hesitant to offer any advice. I'll let the more creative ones handle that!

I understand what a ruffler foot is but my sewing machine has a walking foot that came w/ it but I don't know what to use it for. By the way, where in JoAnn's are you guys getting the ruffler foot. The one here in Frisco said they didn't have any at all but that even if they did it would just work on the Viking/Husqvarna sewing machines. Did I ask for it in the wrong section? I would love a ruffler foot, I'm tired of doing all of that gathering and it's never quite even!
