Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 4

Wow! I am #13 and haven't said much in a month! Had to get something done! I leave town again next friday for the week, so won't be chatty! I need to make a few customs! To all the ohioans out there, we are finally making our trip up, wish we could have done it in august and met with everyone!

This is adorable! Did you use a pattern? I need a visual :)

I did not use a pattern for this, I think that is one reason why I liked it so much.

Here's how I did it....
1. I measured how wide I wanted my strips -- I used a 3.5 x 5.5 card for this. The width was 5.5".
2. I measured how long I wanted my strips -- I taped 3 of those cards together longwise and that was my length.
***Since I don't have a rotary cutter, I had to mark my strips with a pencil and then cut accordingly.
3. I cut 9 strips of the orange and 9 strips of the candy corn material.
4. Alternating the strips, I sewed them together lengthwise.
5. I made a casing for the waist, stitched, inserted elastic and stitched close.
6. I measured my hem, ironed it down, pinned the ric-rac and then hemmed it up.

Voila -- stripwork twirl skirt.

I'm sure that it could probably be done much easier (I'm not an advanced sewer like some on here) but it was super easy for me.

Now I just need to tackle the patchwork & tiered skirt.

I didn't think I talked that much!! :rotfl2: I figured I was hiding in the background. Apparently not! Very funny!

On a serious note. I need some sanity vibes and some sticky baby vibes. I have been bleeding all day and went to the ER. The doc says baby is hanging out in there as comfortable as can be, but I'm still stressed. Hubby is due home from his mini-deployment tomorrow. The doc figures I just overdid it trying to get the house put back together and taking care of three kids. So now I'm on modified bed rest for the weekend. So much for wandering town with hubby. Also, no "reuniting time" for dh and I. But whatever it takes for baby to be okay. So if you guys wouldn't mind thinking some happy thoughts for us, we would greatly appreciate it:hug: . Hubby can't get home and in my arms fast enough!!!

Here are a few photos from our trip.
Unfortunately DD didn't get to wear all of the customs that I made. It was either too hot, or way too rainy for the day the outfit was planned for. I guess I will just have to plan another trip soon so that she will have a chance to wear them.

DD got lots of attention on the days she wore her customs.

These are all great!! She is absolutely adorable!! And boy, does she look just like your wife!!

Oh honey, lots & lots of prayers for you!!!

Ok, I know I am starting to beat all of you down, but you are the only people that act half way interested :rotfl:
Picture257.jpg

My DD wanted to dress like Cinderella when we eat at the Castle (I know, the Castle doesn't have the best food, so forth and so on, if we ate McDonalds nuggets and paid $25 for a 4 pack at the Castle, it would be worth it, just so our DD gets to eat at Cinderella's Castle) Anyway, I thought a "costume" would be too itchy, so we had this made instead. It didn't turn out exactly like I imagined....but it will do...Need a different crown! Also, should have ironed, before pictures.
Picture256.jpg

This outfit.....I am still debating on if I like it :confused3 My DD loves it, because it's Mickey, but hmmmm? But the bow is OUT!

These are both great!! I would also choose a different bow for the second outfit -- just not my taste.

20 pages of posts since my last log in. Whew! I still have about 10 pages to look thru.

This is what I've been up to,

I'll definitly be keeping you in my prayers. Been there, understand the stress. I hope everything stays ok.

I thought that I would post one more set of photos before calling it a night.

Of course MY own LITTLE MISS PISSY PANTS didn't want to wear something that I made this day!

How cute would it have been if she would have worn her Alice outfit on this morning?

How did I get so high on that list!?! I'm sure I don't talk that much. :rolleyes1

I love the new winter crocs with a fuzzy lining thats detachable. Unfortunately they are almost $40 each :sad1:

I need to check those out. I noticed the cold so much more last year than I remember from the past. The fuzzy lining would probably be a good idea for me. It's not easy for me to spend that on shoes for myself but since I haven't bought any new shoes for 3 or 4 years, I guess it's an investment. ;)

Lisa - would you mind sharing your conclusions from your ruffler test? What settings do you have to use to get so close? That is the one thing about using the ruffler that drives me nuts! I hate that I need to ruffle and then attach when I know that I CAN ruffle and attach at the same time. I just haven't figured out the right ratio yet.

My ruffler and sewing machines are White brand from JoAnns so I'm not sure my settings will help with other brands. I have my stitch length set to the longest and have the ruffler set to pleat/tuck every stitch. For the pleat depth, I have it just short of the shallowest depth. I wanted to get it so the ruffled strip ended up 1/2 its original length. This got me close but I'm still not able to get it exactly right. Neither my ruffler nor my sewing machine allow for really fine tuning the settings.

I did come up with a way to "fudge" it a bit. I put my settings so that the ruffled strip ends up being just a bit longer than half its original length. As I stitch the ruffled layer to the next layer, if it looks like the seams won't match up, I decrease the stitch length just a little bit right at the end so the ruffle is a little tighter. Once I pass the seam, I put the stitch length back to where it was. The difference in ruffling isn't really noticable once everything is done and it's the only way I could think of to get things to line up better.

Urgh, kids! Getting to play with Alice is wonderful on its own but the photos would have been so cute if she was in her Alice dress. Ah well, I guess it's best to let some things go since it isn't always possible to reason with a kindergartner. :rotfl:

Tom ~ Oh my how precious is she! I do agree to bad she didn't have her Alice dress on. :( DD got to sit in the cup but did not get to ride. The teacups were down. I will have to show her your pictures. :)

Hi - thanks for sharing, so your strips were 3.5x15 retangles? and then you just bunch up the waist with the elastic to her size? how did you know you needed 18 strips? i'd love to try to make this skirt!!! Ive been working on a tier skirt, and its okay, but somethings not perfect on the top level - ugh!!! thanks, wendy

Cute outfits! We love seeing them!

I am not going to be on the dis right now. I don't really know when I'll be back. I just wanted to thank all of you for your camaraderie and inspiration. All of your gorgeous outfits inspired me to keep at sewing and practice. All of you regardless of skill level have been an inspiration. While I was on here I really felt a sense of friendship among the board members and I am thankful to have met all of you. I hope that someday our paths will cross again.

Have an excellent Halloween, I know there are many costume contests to be won. Keep up the excellent work and Have a great time on your next trip to WDW.

Till next time...tifani.

:sad1: You know that you can come back anytime. We will really miss you.

Would you believe that I was voted shyest girl in my class? True story!
Could you please forward this to my teacher who said I talked to much? :dance3: Guess I need to talk more. :cool1:

Cindee

I had a major allergic reaction today, blame the silliness on the Benadryl.:rotfl:

We are opposites in that respect! All my teachers always complained that I didn't talk enough. Oh, if they could read me now!

I didn't think I talked that much!! :rotfl2: I figured I was hiding in the background. Apparently not! Very funny!

Oh no, you must be so worried. I am going to say praryers for you, if you don't mind. :grouphug: I bled with both Arminda and Lydia, it is so scary. Please take it easy, don't do anything if you can help it. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

HOW COOL IS THAT!!!! In the teacups with Alice!!!!

When I got home from my Mom's tonight (weekly Friday night out with Mom and Heather and kids) Brian showed me a card they had given him at work. It said something about never giving up, and keep your chin up, that kind of thing. Everyone at the store had signed it. I was really confused, and then he handed me the envelope the card had been in. There was over $70 in it! They had all felt so bad for Brian's van getting broken into they had secretly taken up a collection to pay for him some new waders. I was just in tears at their generosity.

I guess what they did was call Brian up front (he is an assistant manager at a grocery store) which usually means a customer need him. But, instead of a customer all of the employees were standing there waiting to give him the card. I am just so touched by their kindness and generosity. Of course, I cried!! I guess there really are more nice kind wonderful people out there than there are rotten ones!

Brian was all teary eyed when he was telling me about it too. He and Corey just left to buy waders at the store. I told him to buy some hot pink ones. Because 1, no self respecting fisherman is going to steal hot pink waders, and 2, if they DO steal them, they will be easy to spot! :lmao:

Oh, I cracky myself up!!!!!
