Way back on page 600 or so someone asked about the pirate mickey heads.pirate:

Then I cut out a rectangle for the scarf on Mickey's head. I hemmed it so it wouldn't fray in the laundry. Then I used a fabric marker to trace the round part of the top of mickey's head minus the ears. I stitched a gathering/basting stitch around where I had drawn with the marker. Pull the thread and it helps your fabric bunch up into a circle. fold the raw edges under.

THen I got a needle and red thread and sat on the couch and watched tv and hand sewed the scarfs onto the heads. If you make little stitches along the top you can't see them at all. Tie a knot in the end of the little scarf and there you have it.

Tomorrow I can post pictures. I need to get off to bed I gotta get up early to get the kids ready for school. :teacher: They start school early here in Georgia!

Thanks so much for responding. I was beginning to wonder if I was asking on the wrong board. None of my posts have been answered until now. :confused3

Not sure if I totally understand where you're marking and gathering if you could expand a little more that would help. Do you lay the rectangle fabric out, lay the head pattern on it, trace the top of head and stitch there? What do you do with what's left around the top?
I have my shirts and fabric washed so I'm going to practice on some scrap tshirts before I start on my disney shirts.

I homeschool my youngest and we started on the 6th. My son went to Orientation last night and starts next Wednesday. Seems like schools start earlier and earlier doesn't it?

Love the dresses and fabric. Where'd you find the fabric?

wannaseetigger~at my local joann fabric's store...[/QUOTE]

:headache: I've been to HL, Joann's, and Hancocks and can't find anything I've wanted. I didn't see this and I really want the retro colored spiral mickey fabric. I have a teenager so the prints I found she will not wear. I did buy me some great clothes and I found some appliques so I'm going to try and tempie them on for our trip.

Glad to help. DId you have other questions? I can try to help with those too if you repost.

I did what you said I have a mickey head "pattern" that I cut out of cardboard so I used it to trace. Then I stitch where I drew the line. THe gather just helps the top of the little scarf look more round and it is easier to sew onto the Mickey head. I tuck the edges (about 1/4") under as I stitch and hide them. I also used tear away stabilizer under the Mickey head applique.

Play with it and have fun it will look cute when you are done!

I wish they didn't start school so early. My DH has gone back to school to finish his degree and didn't get out of summer semester until August 2. So DD and DS missed the open Houses where they got to meet their teachers and they missed the very first day of school.

anyone know where I can get some of this? thanks so much...lime green is my daughters new favorite color (11yrs old) may be the only way I will get her to wear something custom if I use some of this fabric....

I've been looking for this material too. No luck so far and I'm running out of time. :sad2:

This is what I think can work for any age with this fabric.

I got this pic from the "Voldemort" auction site..there is some there but it is >$20 for a yard and a half I think...I didn't want to spend that much...our closest non-Walmart fabric stores are an hour away....hankcock one direction and Joann's another so I have to chose where to look....

does anyone know the official name of this fabric so I could call the stores to see if it is there or will they be able to help me if I just describe it....I can't seem to find it online either, but maybe I am not searching correctly....

I stayed up until 4 am last night. I had 101 thing to do. I am going to pay for it today!

Here is what I made. I cut the minnie dot fabric for the first time! I was so scared! I am seriously in love with the ruffler. We should get a room!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Absolutely loverly!!! I love the big dots and the cute ruffle and the fact that it ties around the neck...Just super!! :thumbsup2 I woke up at 4 am and couldnt fall back asleep until like 6 am. :confused3 Is it a "sewing virus" do you think?? I think we all have it on here!!! :rotfl2:
I think you just convinced me to try to look into getting a ruffler foot. I mean I do ruffles by hand but if its truly easier I will check into it!

I got mine at Joanns. I haven't seen it at Walmart. I have a little left over and it says #CP11149 on it. No name just the number.

I paid 9.99 a yard for it:scared1: Call around to Joanns and see if you can find some. I haven't seen it in my area since early summer. Disney fabrics sell fast around here.

I bought the last two yards at my JoAnn's. I didn't realize until I was checking out that it was $9.99 a yard! I bought all my other character fabric for $4 a yard a Walmart and was shocked that I spent $20 on fabric!

Ok everyone, I went to a friend's today and put my pics on a cd so I can share with you all---you know my camera hates my pc;) I am going to do it on several post since I have a bunch. First up a non-disney but is for all my MD friends!

I still can't believe you do all this by hand!!! Your bows are very nice!! I like this outfit, even though it's Ra... Rav... I can't even say it!!!!!!! Notice I'm from TN, so we'll just keep the rivalry on the football field!!! :rotfl: I hope you do get a machine from your DMIL, you'll have "sew" much fun once you do!

LOL I am am still pissed not 1 of my 4 kids have my blue eyes.

Ok, I'll trade you one blue-eyed kid for one brown-eyed kid! :rotfl:

I love the pimped out Minnie dress! I never thought of adding a panel to the bottom! Shoot! They were too short for Lydia, but she's so skinny, she could have worn it if it were longer. I haven't seen any of those at our Walmarts in awhile though. Well, yours looks fantastic!!!

I think our WM still has some, PM me if you want me to pick one up for you!

Gorgeous! This is the fabric that I've been fighting with about the tutu skirt. I think I'm going to make something different, can you tell me what pattern you used?

It takes me forever to catch up on this thread. I can't be gone for more than a couple hours at a time!

I love those dresses! I'm scared to try shirring, great job!!

Do I need one? I keep thinking it sure would be nice to have nice, finished looking garments on the inside. Those of you that are doing such great work here, do you use a serger? I seriously know NOTHING about sergers. Do you use them to sew on, or just to finish the seams after the garment is finished?

I'm already thinking ahead to Christmas and thought that I would ask for a new sewing machine (that Brother 6000 something that everyone keeps posting about), but I wonder if I should get a serger instead. What do you think?

I  my serger!!! I think once you used one, you'll never want to go back! One drawback, if you make a mistake on a serger it is MUCH harder to correct than on a machine... and that is if it is correctible AT ALL!

She did such a great job and she was convinced that she had married the ringbearer.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Awesome! Thanks for sharing that!

Thought I better split it up since there were a bunch of photos...

I love all of your stuff!! Your bows are absolutely amazing!

I sooooooo want a ruffler!!!! I love your Minnie dot dress!

Girls...and TOM:lmao:

There is a really different Mary Poppins auction on Voldemort. Search boutique custom Spoonful of Sugar. Hope it's okay to write that.

It's painted, so I'm not sure about that, but I like the idea of a Mary Poppins outfit! Opinions please!

That's really cute! I'm not usually a fan of painting, but it almost looks screen printed on. I can't believe someone handpainted that! I like it a lot! :thumbsup2

Well I got my new Brother 6000 sewing machine last night and I was SOOOOO excited. :cool1: My DS1 would not go to bed last night so I didn't get to play with it, so I got up early this morning to use it. I am kind of frustrated and have a few questions. I really got this machine because of all of the high recommendations on it and I wanted a machine that I could try to applique. That said, I was playing with the zig zag and applique stitches and for some reason the bobin color is what color the zig zag is. Also the zig` zag shows up on the bottom side of the fabric. I am doing something wrong? Or is something backwards on my machine??? Thanks for the help. My other machine had a zig zag (not adjustable) but it would show up zig zag on the top and bottom of the fabric. I am just getting really frustrated!!!!:confused3

2b4him - I love your applique! I have no clue how to help though. I've never done it. But the detail on the face is great!

disney4me - I love the pirate dresses!

spongy - Very good tips! :rotfl2: Post a pic of your "nightgown!"

KDK - Great job! I love the pink and brown outfit!

aimee - I LOVE the minnie dress!

I almost bought that fabric! I love it, so cute.
I had no idea what I would do with it so I walked away. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I love that Pixar short....did you recognize my avatar :)

Oh my gosh!! your avatar is so cute..All I can think of is that funny "honk"....you know..the sound he makes...LOL... I was having a not so good morning...and that totally cheered me up!!:rotfl:
