Sooooo, what youre saying is that even if we adopt you and you already have ALL THAT FABRIC, that you won't be able to make us anything?

Oh I'm destined to always be the proverbial shoemaker's daughter. The story goes, the shoemakers daughter always went without shoes because the shoemaker was always to busy making shoes for everyone else.:sad2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If it helps, I haven't made anything for myself in years either. :) Besides, if I use the fabric just "willy nilly", what will I do when I think of the PERFECT outfit to make with it only to realize it's all gone and no longer available anywhere? :lmao:

I'm sorry your daughter is outgrowing her love of custom outfits, but there may still be hope! My older daughter is helping me pick patterns and material. So just wait a little while. :thumbsup2

I think we're finding a compromise. I'll be able to make her clothes but they won't be as embellished as I might like. I think it helps, though, that her friends seem jealous of her closet contents. I hear them sometimes looking through her clothes and expressing their wish that I'd sew for them. Once they find out I'd expect to be paid, they don't hint quite so much. :thumbsup2

I got a new sewing machine!!!!
This one will magically make me good, I'm thinkin'.
I feel like I've been using a push lawn-mower and have switched over to a ride-on! I haven't really read the instructions ("instructions are for wussies!") but I simply sewed some seam binding onto a bit of fabric, and it sews like a dream!!!!
It's another one from Walmart. The brother CS-6000i computer one. IT THREADS THE NEEDLE! :cloud9:
Happy camper in Utah tonight!

CONGRATS! :yay:

Ok, so I have only made it to page 127 and I already want to go out and buy a sewing machine to learn how to use. I am so not crafty that I have to buy pillowcase dresses of of ebay. With that being said can the appliques that also be done of the pillowcase dress. I have alot more looking to do but since I am leaving in two days to go on a cruise I know I will not be finished w/ this thread before then. I have also been writing down post #'s so I can ask even more questions when I am finished.

I never actually introduced myself, My name is Lori, I am a mom of 4 (3 who run, 1 who soars). I like to sew. Just don't have the time always.

I found this really cute pink Mickey fabric last night at the good Walmart and I started making my dd's dresses for our trip in Sept. I can't wait to see them finished.

Any one have any ideas for an 11 yr old boy?

TIA
Lori

Hey welcome!!! I've been following your BBB thread! Good idea about writing down post #s, I do that too. I keep a DIS notebook by the computer for that reason. They will have you sewing before you know it! I think there are more beginners on here now than near-pros (I call them that because they are too modest to admit it themselves, don't listen to them ;) )

Lori

Hi Lori!!! I've been thinking, and lots of people have suggested, pajamas or just simple t-shirts. My oldest dd is 16 and has given me strict instructions that I'm not to make her anything custom to wear to wdw :sad1: So, I bought a pattern for pajamas and I'm going to surprise her with Disney ones on our trip. I'm also going to make her a couple of pillowcases. Hope this helps!

I don't post much (I think this might be my 3rd post here not sure), but I just wanted to let everybody know that each morning I can't wait to see what everybody posted.

I am still learning to sew outfits and learn so much from this post.

I hope the meanies don't stop people from posting their outfits on here.

I am replying to everyone who has sent me PM's. Twenty of you and counting. Some I don't even recognize as posting here.:confused3 So many of you have been kind to me before. I actually am worried for the person, because the outfit was a "borrowed" inspiration. By no means exactly the same, and she did all of the designing herself in her computer, but... This woman is wonderful, and I got to thinking about how nasty some things have been on here and e bay. I got some snarky e mails when I bid on Castles Minnie outfit. So I posted it, but then got afraid. I'm not sure who exactly the bad guys are here. so in order to protect the seller, and hopefully keep her doing things for me:goodvibes , I took off the e bay id. Sorry if I have offended anyone. I know lots of people have been very nice to me, and given me lots of "things" incognito, but for a rare time in my life, I am actually intimidated by the jerky people!
People just need to get a life! This thread is to share ideas and for those of us that don't sew to make some great contacts. It really sucks that a few nasty peolpe ruin it for the rest of us! And I thought we were out of high school!! I am sorry you are getting some nasty PM's.

I'm sure my family will tell you that I rarely sew for them. I did make some Backyardigans overalls for a great-nephew but that's about it. Zoe's the one who suffers the most from my need to design. Unfortunately, she's getting to an age where she wants to wear "normal clothes" like her friends. :sad2:  :sad1: :( Of course she decides this while she still fits the Snow White twirl set, Ariel capri set, Belle twirl set, Mulan capri set and several princess tees I've made not to mention that I have Jasmine appliqued on a piece of fabric waiting to be made into a top. :headache: Kids... you've got to love them... or they wouldn't survive childhood. :rotfl: (I joke, of course. ;))
If you need to get rid of some of those outifts, I could probably help you out, since are DD are about the same size!:goodvibes

:wave2: Can't wait to look at all the new outfits when I get back!

There will probably be 100 pages!:scared:

:wave2:
Have a wonderful, magical trip, I am guessing there will be closer to 200 pages since I have to read at least 10 everyday that I work!;)

I imagine you will be making a purchase very soon :rotfl: I bought mine to save costs on the customs I was buying off a certain auction site. I hadn't a clue as to sew on a button. I'm learning but I can honestly tell you that you will learn alot from this site.

Hi Lori -- I have an 11 year old boy too. So far, the only thing he has been interested in is the Mickey swirl shirt on the craft thread (the one with flour). I keep asking him if he wanted me to make him something -- he keeps replying 'No."

Pajamas are a great idea!! Now I'm rethinking my purchases at Hancocks yesterday -- hmm -- another trip is in order - pajama patterns!

Question: How hard is it going to be for me to make bloomers? A newbie that hasn't used a pattern since 7th grade home ec. I'm going to try this weekend -- bought the pattern for 99 cents!!!! I guess I will get ALOT of extra fabric :rotfl:

Question 2 Online there is Hancocks and Hancocks of Paducah. What is the difference between them? The Hancocks of Paducah has more of the fabrics that I want to purchase. Also, is there a physical store in Paducah -- if so, it is not too far from me, I might have to make a road trip.

A while ago someone was asking about a Tiger Lily costume. Here is my daughter in the one I made. She may it a point to correct anyone that called her Pocahontas, such good manners I'm teaching.:dance3:

I'm not quite sure of the difference, but I do know that Paducah is a mecca of sorts for the quilting world. They have huge fabric shows there so I would venture to guess the Paducah one has a lot more fabric.

I see you are from Picayune! My mother grew up there.

So funny . . .

Tonight my DH did not feel like doing his homework. No he is not 10 he is in graduate school. So he hung out with me in what he likes to call my crafting" cage." (A woman at a craft show had a cage like structure that she painted ash trays while her husband worked the floor!) I call it the Art Room.

I set up one of our desks as a sewing desk. I bought a thread holder and hung it up tonight. I even started a desk top sewing basket with my little gotta have notions. I brought down my antique sewing supplies lion. Those little girls better not touch it! I already saw Hannah eyeing up today.

My husband saw the two dresses I made and was talking to me. He giggled and said they were really cute. The one with the camo Mickey- he said Aimee the smocking is beautiful. I in return said thanks hunny bunny but thats ric rac. At least he has been half way listening. I pulled out my practice smocking. (I did more tonight.) He was amazed that was done by hand. He thought the sewing machine did it.

I then started to show him my idea book. I was working on my Crystal Palace outfits and all of a sudden DH starts telling me all the sewing terms he knew. I think he said hem, elastic, sewing machine, felt, and smocking. He was really proud.

I showed him some other fabric I had. Like for Mickey's BBQ and Ohano's. I did not dare pull out my real stash. That has the 15 yards of minnie dot. I am trying to decide what to do for Hollywood and Vine. I pulled out my three choices I already had and said I just can't decide. I do not know if I want to do a random Mickey outfit or Jo Jo specific. He told me he likes when the girls match and we both agreed the girls are not Jo Jo crazy. He said why don't you just make all three.

I was like they have two outfits for each day! Not to mention princess costumes. He said no biggie- some days they will have three, kissed me on the forehead and went to bed!

BTW- he even sat through some of the photobucket link!

Aww Aimee! How sweet! I'm getting all sentimental just reading it.
What in the world is wrong with me? Ha!

Why is it on days when I'm too busy to be here theres Popcorn and 20 pages of posts to catch up on, but when the boss is out I'm here all alone...
...t.

You know...I have those days on this thread too. Of course yesterday had me tied up with work and this morning I log on and there are 12 pages to catch up on.
:rotfl:

I did make some pirate sneakers for DD last night. I am waiting for them to dry and then I will lace them up and photograph so I can share. pirate:

How have I missed this thread!!! After I post this I am off to view the previous pics! The first 3 pics are from our trip to DL - and the last is of DD in an outfit we just received in the mail today for our trip next month! I have two more outfits being made (a Tinkerbell and a Hannah Montana), and I am working on embellishing a pair of jean capris to match a High School Musical T.

I love those outfits! Your daughter is beautiful. Where did you get the shirt with the Minnie head on it? And what did you use to outline the Minnie head?

when do you all do your sewing. I can only sew a bit at a time. I have 3 children of my own then I sit for 3 others, so the ages in my home are..... 3 mos old, 20 mos old (theese two are sisters I babysit), 2yrs old (mine), 4 yrs old (I babysit), 6 yrs old (mine), and 11 yrs old (mine) :dance3: . The only time I get to sew is about 2 hours at night. That is after quality time with dh. He gets home from work and then the kids go to bed at 8:30, dh goes to bed at 10pm (he leaves for work at 3am). SO I get to sew after 10 pm. UGH. not much time when you are up at 6 am to babysit. I am wondering how you all do it? Am I not managing my time. Please give me all of your advice as to how to sew when the kiddos are awake. Then I think I could get more done. :confused3 . Really I am just so jealous of all of your great work :worship: . I must say though, that I did find time today to tape 4 ziploc bags to hangers today and fill them. :) :woohoo:

Well, I only have 2 kids so that has to make it easier for me. Naptime is my most productive time because DD8 does her own thing during that time (I homeschool, so she's here year round). I also make use of the time after dinner but before I get the kids into bed. But it's not like I'm cranking out 6 outfits a day. So far I've completed one top/shorts outfit, one dress and 3 skirts in the last 3 weeks.

Here are the first two dresses.

This is the green and blue Mickey print. I am proud to say I made my little one a moo moo! :rotfl2:

Keep in mind we are not going for seven months- well six months 29 days. Who's counting. In the last nine months DD grew 5 inches. I am not going to sew the straps in yet. I am goind to wait and do that the week before we leave. That way I can make adjustments.

I bought the green striped St. Judes fabric. I really want to add a ruffle but I do not know if I should. I could take a couple inches off the dress and then do it. Also do you think I should add a tie somewhere in the middle of the dress so I can tighten the waist. She is just do skinny!

Very smart to not sew the straps. Personally, I like it long and flowy as it is, to me the bottom layer looks like a ruffle. I do think a nice tie in the back would look really nice as well. Great use of the fabric! I have it as well but haven't decided on what to do with it yet.

lori - I hope you're caught up! or that you'll at least see this. I love your outfits. did you make them?

aimee - everytime someone reposts your nemo dress, I fall more in love with it! It is so sweet!

:welcome:

You could do a button up shirt, which that is what I am doing for ds (7), or you can go to the Creative DISigns board: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105 and find cute tshirt designs to iron on, which is what I am doing for ds too.

:welcome: to the board. :flower3:
