Here's a photo of just some of my stash.

You make me feel normal! There is someone else out there like me! :rotfl2:
Here are the first two dresses.

These turned out perfect! I especially like the Mickey camo dress...but I have a soft spot for that fabric, so I may be biased.

hearing that makes me soooo glad I'm not married
Haircut-$35 dollars
Wash, condition, blowdry $25.00
Tri-tone color job $50.00
Last minute added highlights $35.oo
Tip for stylist $20.00
Not having a husband to complain about how much this stuff costs...
PRICE-LESS!!

You ladies are making me so glad I don't color or highlight anymore. I don't miss those huge salon bills. More money for Disney! :rotfl:

What made it worse is I have blond blond blond hair. I went swimming in my Aunt's pool and my hair turned bright green. My normal $150 splurge quickly jumped to $200. Blond is something you have to maintain though!

I had that happen as a kid...no bright green though...just that tinge of green on platinum. I had to get it offset by doing strawberry blonde for a while. I'm so glad I grew out of that white blonde hair...its rough...and certain brands of chlorine will just bring that martian look right back! LOL!

I've only done it twice but here's what I did.

So much work went into this! It looks terrific! Me and Applique just don't mix right now. Although I am supposed to attend a class tomorrow at the local quilting shop tomorrow and the ladie promised to help me perfect my technique...we shall see.

This is the smocking plate I bought today. My disney ones are taking forever!!!

BooToYou3.jpg

My hat is off to anyone that does the smocking. Not something I'll ever attempt, but it looks gorgeous, but I just envision a lot of cursing and fabric/thread/sewing machines flying in the air if I gave it a whirl. This pumpkin one is really cute. ;)

Hey, that's my Minnie hat! :lmao: I love all your outfits. How did you do the one with the overalls...is the minnie print attached only at the front? Very cool!

A while ago someone was asking about a Tiger Lily costume. Here is my daughter in the one I made. She may it a point to correct anyone that called her Pocahontas, such good manners I'm teaching.:dance3:

DSC03263.jpg

I'm hanging my head in shame...your DD would probably have to correct me too...I never can tell the difference between Pocahontas and Tiger Lily! Did you make all the costumes? They look great! Tiger Lily looks like you had to do a whole lot of beading, I'm assuming you did that by hand? Awesome job! Ugh...that reminds me...I have to finish our costumes for MNSSHP...but I think I may just sew half and then buy half...two months until we go back to Disney, but time flies!

A name? (just kidding). I don't know because I used it all. But it's at Walmart next to the kitty fabric. I just love the torquoise with the pink! There's like 5 coordinating ones. I noticed some solids that would go nicely. And some sew on applique that would match....and bright pink pom poms. See what I'm turning into???

I'm sure I'll be there tomorrow, so I'll check the fabric name for ya. :)

Thank you very much! My fabric store didn't have the stripe or the flowers so a name would be helpful for internet searching :) Thanks again!

I did it!! I finished this whole darn thread, lol. Now I'll get ready for the day, go to the park, and come home to 20 more pages. But darnit, for just this moment, I'm caught up! Yay me!

I absolutely LOVE all the dresses and custom clothes. I wish I had the time to do some sewing for myself and kids. Of course by the time I get to it the kids will be too old. LOL!

I must say though, that spending 8 days in WDW and going to every park, not wasting a minute of WDW time, not once did I see anyone in a custom outfit.
Also, strangely we only saw a handful of girls in princesses dresses.

Do you let your kids where their custome clothes to school, parties, etc after your trips?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! A feat worthy of the royal bowdown! :worship: You are worthy!!

Like the laundry (at my house)....only done for 5 minutes ;) :laundy:

cancer survivor 06- Just noticed your name. Congrats to you on your victory over cancer. From the looks of your siggie, you've been through alot, but are beating it! I too am a cancer survivor- 13 years this past July 19th. Keep up the good fight! It definetly can be beat!

I have absolutely loved browsing this thread in the past couple of months. I grew up in a family where all the women could sew. My mother made so many clothes for me growing up from baby dresses to prom dresses. She made a french hand sewn graduation gown for me and then remade it into a christening gown for my children 15 years later. I never needed to learn to sew and only picked up a few skills from her.:sad1: A couple of years ago she gave me the Singer sewing machine she received as a college grad gift. It's a lovely shade of green that would fit well in the 60's scene on COP. Thanks to this board and all the tips and advice I felt ready to take on a small project. Here is my result. I think the smile on my daughter's face says it all. I will be emailing these pictures to my mom too. She will be so proud. My first satin stich ever! A tinkerbell costume is next!

Giggle - Great job! I'm going to try something similar this weekend with the nemo print.
I can't do the impressive applique, but I'm hoping I'll be able to manage a square. Maybe. :rotfl2:

How did you attach Donald in the middle?

PS - Your kids are precious!

The Donald was an embroidered iron on applique I found on ebay. So I just ironed it on. Super cheap and super easy. Thanks. When my son saw me taking pictures of Helen he had to get in the picture too. I found a white shirt at the Disney Store with Donald swimming that he will wear the same day. It was on clearance for $2.99!:cool1:

Question 2 Online there is Hancocks and Hancocks of Paducah. What is the difference between them? The Hancocks of Paducah has more of the fabrics that I want to purchase. Also, is there a physical store in Paducah -- if so, it is not too far from me, I might have to make a road trip.

They are not affiliated. Hancocks is the online version of the store with locations in many cities. They mostly cater to hobby sewers and the carry fabrics that vary in price and quality. Hancock's of Paducah (aka HOP) does have one location, in Paducah KY. Check their website for address and directions. I'd so love to go there in person but that's unlikely to happen. I just love looking through their catalog (sign up or call for a free one!!!). They mostly cater to serious quilters (not including the home decor fabric and things). The fabric quality is generally VERY good... and the prices often reflect that. I love to shop through their discount prints because I can sometimes get wonderful prints for 50% or more off the price I'd pay elsewhere.

For anyone else who has a major fabric shopping addiction, if you haven't tried quiltshops.com, I highly recommend it. It's a search engine that will look through the online stock of 190+ quilt shops. You can search by color, general style, designer, etc. Like HOP, though, the stores mostly carry quilt shop quality fabric which means they are higher priced. I really like being able to check prices at multiple stores to find the best one because it can vary a few dollars per yard. They don't seem to have much licensed character prints, though, and what they do have is overpriced IMO.

OK, more information that you asked for but hopefully it will help someone. ;)

Congrats to you as well. July 4th a year and a half. I Just had my 6mth check up and visually everything looks good. My blood work on the other hand is being crazy, but I am going to disney and that's all that matters. The docs are doing blood test so I will know not this week coming (I am cruisin to mexico) but the following week.

What happened to it!??! Why is it closed? Anyone know?

I am really sad about that! I got my email about it being closed last night. I know that there weren't very many posts on it, but I was hoping that it would really take off. I think that would have been a great place to go for those of us who are going to list. I am all excited to get started once my girls get in school during the day and I was hoping that group would be around.

sorry to hear theres been more trouble ,it seems like its something to do with castles minnie outfit right? Anyway, isnt there a way to trace the ip address of the emails and see if they match someone on here? The only thing is they may not post here just read. even so I would just ignore or block if you can. I have found so many great ideas and also sellers on here. I only had one favorite before and she still is ,but Ive found a couple of other sellers that have expertise in other areas like applique and Im thrilled! Im going to disney in a couple of weeks and have wayyyy too many outfits! I actually had to book another character meal 2 days ago to make an outfit wearing opportunity! How bad is that? I didnt think I could get one but I did at a resort restaurant with characters.I will be changing them twice at the parks as well. keep up the good work you guys ,dont let anyone ruin what is going on here, its too good to let go!
