castle and anyone else with the embroidery machine experience -

How do you easily thread the thread thru the Q foot?
It's a pain in the rear!
Especially if you have lots of color changes.

Is the Q foot the one with the hole in the bottom...LOL...I get the thread as close as possible and raise the presser foot up the extra little amount it lets you and use tweezers to grab the thread. Yup...it's a pain. It takes me longer to do that than embroider the design...

I put together a tulle tutu skirt, didn't like how it looked. Took it ALL apart to start over. Tried again, took it apart and was about to trash the whole thing. Then I got advice from someone definitely more experienced and thought I knew what to do. I got all my pieces cut (again!) then gathered the tulle and pinned it in place and was just about to stitch it down when I noticed I pinned the entire thing to the wrong side of the fabric

So, I walked out of my sewing room with it still lying on the floor, locked the door (dgd is visiting and can't understand why Nana won't let her play with pins!) and vowed not to touch it until tomorrow. I'm spending the day with my Granny so she can see dgd and probably criticize every inch of the matching dresses I made today for dd2 and dgd2 to wear.

Anyway, I wanted to finish that skirt today, but instead got two dresses done. I will post pics tomorrow after I actually get them on the models.

I haven't done that, but I made a gorgeous Tinkerbell applique only to iron on the fusible stabilizer to the wrong side...Yup, ironed it right on Tinkerbell's little upturned nose...so there it sits...stuck together...NEXT! LOL

I totally understand! The last time I was working with tulle I worked with it for 2 days pinning and repinning and finally got frustrated and threw the whole thing in the trash (pins included ). Now I would rather applique than mess with tulle

I did throw out 15 yards of chiffon with a pettiskirt pattern still attached. My children heard some words that only truckers say...that day...

Shhh -- my secret-- these are embroidered scrapbook stickers. I got them at Hobby Lobby -- 2 different packages.

Ladies, I am so sorry to post pics and run. Had an old friend call me up and out the door I went. Since I see that she claimed her sewing creation, I am glad that all of you can appreciate Obsessed Wth the Mouse's work She was so amazing and patient. The fabrics were a nightmare to find, but I am sure if you want to copy, something can be found that is close. Anyone that uses Lindas talents whether by purchasing or advice should just be thrilled! I can't say enough great things about her

I am going to try to post pics of the ruffles, but photobucket dosen't want to be my friend. I didn't understand why the origional pictures were so gigantic anyway?

I am going to email the designer of the appliques, and ask her if it's okay to give her ebay name. When I get a reply, I'll let you know everyone.

Audrey Grace will have at least three times to wear this stunner. Tomorrow at her third birthday (where does the time go ), Playhouse Disney is coming to our local civic center, and then at the Hollywood and Vine at MGM. Maybe I will sell it then, but honestly, I think this one is for keeps forever!!!!

Absolutely amazing!!!

All this talk of rufflers had me intrigued. Yes, I actually went into Jo Ann's today and got one! Hopefully if I can get if figured out it will be the best 15 dollars that I spent. It should save me tons of time, since my Princess likes to have ruffles on everything!

I bought one today too -- but mine was $30.00 (then I spent another $30.00 on the walker presser foot too). If you figure it out -- please pass it on -- I got home -- looked at the package -- but was too intimidated to try it.

We have a local party store that also sells Halloween stuff. So they sell the red and white tights for their Raggedy Ann and Andy Outfits. They were 5 dollars a pair.. but they are big. Since their cotton, I will be able to take them in a little..

We need AA for sewers....maybe FO...Fabric Overbuyers...I always get the sweats....When I'm in line for the cutting table. I think boy, if I get what the pattern says, I might make a mistake and need more..and what if I come back and it's gone...then I have a half made outfit that will have to be cut up and made into a twirl skirt out of tiny little blocks because there won't be enough fabric left to do anything with...

A couple of days ago I bought five yards. I am only planning on doing two pillowcase dresses. Today I went back and asked for five more and when she got to five I said give me it all! 10 yds 20 in. So I have 15 yds 20 in for two pillowcase dresses!!!!!!!

Well I was just out shooping tonight and i can tell you, Gap, Old Navy, Marshalls, and Childrens Place have no halloween type tights out. Neither did Walmart. Yeah I looked for tights at every one of those places. it's a disease.

Know what i want, those adorable orange patent leather maryjanes the Gap sold a year or so ago. The go for like 25 bucks worn/used on ebay!!

OH MY GOSH!! They are the cutest...see...I told you all...We all think alike. i was just looking at Ebay for some of those...I wish I could get a pair...LOL

I just went to my Walmart earlier tonight and bought the whole bolt of the minnie dot, all 12 yards and did I mention...I DON"T SEW

I've officially gone over the deep end because of this thread
so now what exactly does a non sewer do with 12 yards of minnie dot fabric?

Well, at least I'll have it when I get around to those sewing classes I want to take

Well, I have saved all DS clothes that seemed like they could pass for DD. I had no big plans for them, then I found you all So, I dressed up some 18 month overalls - Maybe she can wear them to CP breakfast in Nov.
My sewing skills are basic and I think I am now better with my seem ripper than almost anything else, but I am happy with the outcome.

I was thinking that I would cover the whole top panel of the overalls with the pooh fabric, but it never worked out for me, is there a secret to that folks? I added the piping (red) to the bib part (second pic) and am thinking of adding it to the pant leg cuff, but I am not sure.

Just got back from Hancock (99 cents McCalls patterns, limit 5...I got back in line!!!) and thought I'd share my treasures...

This is the fabric- Walmart has 4 or 5 coordinating ones...

Those of you with working ruffler-"foots" are LUCKY! I bought one today that was "universal" except for the brother budget machine! All my gathers are tediously down by hand.

THose are adorable fabrics I have the first three. I had to buy that first one just because it is so pretty. I don't have any use for it yet.

I love the kitty fabrics sooo sweet. Why are you gathering by hand?

I always run two sets of stitching along the edge with the widest setting a basting stitch and then just pull the strings. It works okay for me. I kind of slide the gathers around until the ruffle is the length you want and then tie them. Then you can slide them around more to make them even.

I think the trick is to only pull one set of strings. I pull the top strings which is the thread from the top of the machine. I don't pull the underside which I think is the thread from the bobbin.

Very cute! I did my overalls the same way. I don't know how you could cover it up because the buttons are in the way.

You did a great job and the piping is pretty.

Ahh, it is so nice to deal with Disney fans. When I made this book a few years ago and showed it too my coworkers, they said, "what is the spoon for?" Duh, have you seen the movie? Anyway, the spoon was in a set made by Jolee's. I think it had a fork and knife in it also, but I only used the spoon. I'm sure Barbie borrowed the other utensils!

I'll have to keep that in mind if we find Mary Poppins. I may have to scraplift if you don't mind!

I'll be on the look out for the Jolee's table ware! Is the spoon made of paper?

Hi! Nana to the rescue...TaDa!!! Ok, to get the 3D effect I did tiny little stitches(by hand) along the TOP /sides of the scarf up to the knot. I made sure that the longer stitches ended up in back of the applique head and the tiny stitches in the front, catching only a thread or two of the scarf fabric before going into the back of the appliqued head. then I tacked down the knot but left the "bottom of the scarf loose I thought it looked more 3D that way. Nana

Oh thank you that helps! Might I ask what color thread looks best? Red like the scarf? Or Black like my Mickey Head? I do have some clear nylon thread too. Any recommendations?

Since Hancock's 99 cent Mc Calls patterns are probably picked through by now, take your Hancock ad to Walmart! The match ads!!!!! Be sure and get the specific non-excluded McCalls patterns though. Me and Spongie went tonight. I took my DH and he got 5 patterns and I got 5. This calls for a banana dance!

I'm by no means an expert but I'm enjoying the experience of refining my technique. I'd say the best way to get good results is practice - sorry, I know that's boring and sounds like a mom. I started with simple shapes, like squares, hearts, daisies, etc. and progressed from there. I finally took the "plunge" in December to try more complex designs. Here's a close-up of a t-shirt I did for my DD this spring. I did as much as possible with my sewing machine, including stitching around all the pieces of the eyes, and then added the finishing details by hand, like the black line and eyelashes on the top edge of each eye and a brown line on the lower edge, the line to show the nose and the eyebrows. I figure if DD wears it a lot, it's successful.

That is awesome! Practice? I really didnt want to hear that. I could practice everyday from now until I leave and still not get this good. Can we just adopt you into the family? That just seems to be a more realistic idea.

I was tempted to buy those jeans. I might have to buy them now, since I'd be able to wear 2 sizes smaller than normal. Will they print the size on the outside of the pants for me, do you think? Do they fit bigger in the waist, legs, butt, or just all over?

Magic jeans? I want a pair! Leave it to Disney to come up with the idea. Did any of you buy the mickey bathing suit. Holy cow! I never would have believed I could have worn the size I ended up with. It was awesome!

Yes, there are things you just have to do to get those machines to work.

OK, so be gentle! This is my FIRST attempt at sewing and using a pattern! My MIL usually does all the sewing, but I have her so loaded down doing other vacation outfits, I thought I'd try a simple on on my own. Nothing fancy AT ALL, but I'm happy that I actually finished it!

The ruffles are SO bad, but if she moves real fast and you aren't too close up, I think don't anyone will notice!

Great job on the fabric with all the hellos on it, and the kitty material. And I did buy the whole bolt of that dotted fabric. Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a little obsessed, okay, alot.
The Serenity prayer? Okay, I will accept that the need for me to purchase material is something I cannot change. Now here's mine

Sewing prayer:
Please God, do not let me embarass my children with the clothes I sew and make them wear against their will. Hold tight the seams and do not let them come apart thus scarring my children for life until after our trip is over. And please Lord let them know what to do with the numerous bolts of material that they will inherit instead of the DVC I could have spent the money on. And lastly, do not let the fabric shrink or the color run if we are caught in a freak rain storm since I didn't remember to prewash all my fabrics. Amen
