That is so cute! My DS is standing here yelling DODA! DODA! DODA! Where did you find the fabric?

I know how you feel--I wish my grandmother were here to see what I'm making my kids. And to help. ;)

THanks!

I got it at Hancocks... went there to find some of the friends fabric, and my daughter found it. :)

Question: how did you wash the shirt with the fur ... I've bought some fur to put on DD's halloween dress -but I've been hesitating because of what would happen in the wash...

Mine are removeable, so I don't have to worry about that, and they can go with any outfit! PM me if you want the ebay seller.

I saw some there, but they want over $10/yard plus shipping. I was hoping to get it for less.

They had some at my local JoAnn, and I havent seen it there in a while.
But not much was left...just over 2 yards.
I sent you a second PM with some info off the bolt in case that helps.

I haven't posted much on here even though I'm addicted to this thread because well, I have no sewing machine! But I've been reading and keeping ideas for when I take the plunge and get a machine. Anyway, until then I'm buying my customs for our WDW trip (only 4 more weeks ). I wanted to share pictures of my girls in two outfits I've recently bought thanks to 2 very talented ladies on here. If you want info on who made them, feel free to PM me.

Minnie Twirl skirts. I bought black shirts and I'm going to decorate it with rhinestones in the shape of Minnie.

And of course, showing off the twirl:

Princess twirl skirt outfits.

And again, how can we not show off the twirl:

Now to figure out what to wear for Animal Kingdom and Epcot!

The outfits and your daughters are adorable!

Our local JoAnn's is updating there t-shirt embelishment section and by tuesday they will have the whole line of these out...

It looks like they will be about $4 each.
Just wanted to share.
Now the question remains, if my DD or I get to be the Princess ;)

I absolutely LOVE all the dresses and custom clothes. I wish I had the time to do some sewing for myself and kids. Of course by the time I get to it the kids will be too old. LOL!

I must say though, that spending 8 days in WDW and going to every park, not wasting a minute of WDW time, not once did I see anyone in a custom outfit.
Also, strangely we only saw a handful of girls in princesses dresses.

Do you let your kids where their custome clothes to school, parties, etc after your trips?

I haven't made the wonderful customs some of these ladies (and gentleman) have, but we go to Disney the end of summer. I ended up making clothes, because I like it and because I don't want her to wear clothes that she's "beat up" over the summer. I try to make them big enough to wear the following summer. She loves to wear anything Disney anytime, except School is a boring uniform.

ok!!!

I did my Minnie Head Applique! ::MinnieMo I hope it ok! Apparently, stablizers are NOT for wussies. I didn't use it. I just pinned, but I made it hard on myself. But it looks OK. I 'll post it with the minnie print shorts I'm working on at the moment. I'm maximizing the kids' naptime. My chores are sort of done (minus folding the never-ending laundry).

Hey! Riley's my DS7's name!

OK, where is the pic? I'm doing my first one tonight!!! I have it cut out and ironed on to the shirt. I'm using stablizer that pinned on the back. I'm nervous!!!! It looks cute right now. I just don't want to ruin the whole shirt!!!

Would you, Tom, or anyone who bookmarked it, post the link that Tom shared with us for making hairbows? I saved the page but the text didn't save. I'd like to find the page again!

Thanks in advance!

This link was from teresajoy's bookmarks. My sister has compiled lots of links there for the joy of us all. We also add new ones when they are posted on this board or if they are PMed to us. If you boomark her bookmark website, the world of sewing will be at your fingertips. The link is in my siggy, teresajoy's siggy, and the very first post in this thread.

I have absolutely loved browsing this thread in the past couple of months. I grew up in a family where all the women could sew. My mother made so many clothes for me growing up from baby dresses to prom dresses. She made a french hand sewn graduation gown for me and then remade it into a christening gown for my children 15 years later. I never needed to learn to sew and only picked up a few skills from her.:sad1: A couple of years ago she gave me the Singer sewing machine she received as a college grad gift. It's a lovely shade of green that would fit well in the 60's scene on COP. Thanks to this board and all the tips and advice I felt ready to take on a small project. Here is my result. I think the smile on my daughter's face says it all. I will be emailing these pictures to my mom too. She will be so proud. My first satin stich ever! A tinkerbell costume is next!

Great job!!! Your kids are adorable, too!

For anyone else who has a major fabric shopping addiction, if you haven't tried quiltshops.com, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the links, it has been added to the bookmarks!

YES!!!! It seems like such a waste to only wear in Disney! DD got the minnie twirl set - and when I had her try it on - she wouldn't take it off! LOL!

I completely agree! My daughter is wearing her "Disney Cuties" outfit today. I want her to get as much wear as possible out of her custom outfits!

I LOVE the princess twirl skirts! Your daughters are SO cute!

Ok.. here goes my posting of my FIRST piece of clothing EVER made... I've been dabbling with applique, and then decided to try a skirt... and I'm sooo :yay: that it actually LOOKS like a skirt, you don't even know! :cool1:

:cheer2: You did great!! Isn't it exciting to find out that you can actually sew? You've got skills!!

Ok, it has been a busy week, but I managed to complete two projects. The first is a backpack I made for a friend going off to college. My DH nearly died when he saw the fabric sitting on the dining room table! And then he nearly had a stroke when I put it one of the children to take a picture. Oh well, I hope my friend will like it:

Great job on the backpack. However, your little model just steals the show. Every time I see her little face, I just think how cute she is!!

It's super cool! It is made by Clover. You cut the fabric and insert it into the tool and it basically just folds it over. You iron it as you pull it through and it turns into bias tape!

I MUST have one of these!! I love the bias tape!

It's super cool! It is made by Clover. You cut the fabric and insert it into the tool and it basically just folds it over. You iron it as you pull it through and it turns into bias tape! I haven't used it yet, but I am really hoping it works. I got mine at a quilt shop for $7.50. It's probably less than that if it available at JoAnn or Hancock or someplace like that. I would look in the quilting area. If you really can't find it anyplace you can contact the ladies at my quilt shop and I bet they would sell it to you and mail it. They aren't selling on-line yet, but I am kinda hoping they will start. I really really really want their business to be succesful because I love having them in my little town.

www.needlenest.com

It's called a bias tape maker. It came in 1/2" and 1". I got the 1" to start because I figured the thinner might be a little more difficult to cut.
I bought one too! I haven't used it on my own, but she had everything set up in the shop (including the iron, lol) and we did it there. It was EASY! She also gave me lots of lessons on the rotary cutter. I love those quilt shop ladies!

I am on a fabric finding frenzy! In addition to tinkerbell fabric, I am looking for something similar to this

Has anyone ever seen it?

Hi all I love lots of the outfits you have all been making they are great. A couple of people asked me to try and find some Wiggles fabric in Australia. Sorry it has taken so long my DD has been sick and I have not been able to get out much. Anyway this is my first post with pictures attached so I hope it works if not I will try again. The fabric is all 120cm or 48 inches wide(sorry we are in centimetres over here) it is $8.99 Australian per metre. I think that maybe expensive for what you guys are used to paying not sure. Well here goes for the photo posts.

To give you an idea of size the cars on this print are about 13centimetres or 5 inches long

In this fabric which is the same as the third picture the characters are 16 centimetres or 6 1/2 inches high

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks
from Australia

I havent seen this in the stores for a month maybe, but I did see some on that auction site.
I think they called Tinkerbell Tropical Stripe.
I will keep an eye out...good luck.

I think I saw this at our JoAnns. I will look when I am there next week, but it won't be before then :( Can you wait that long

Now I'm begging......Can anyone get me the sku# on this fabric or find where I can buy some?

I will dig it out tonight and post it. It is at the bottom of my project mess. I am organizing tonight anyway. Monk at 9:00! I am prepared to organize in honor of Mr. Monk. :yay:

Someone named Amy of course made this. I got it from the Disigns board. She has a whole website of great stuff. M_I_C_K_E_Y is her name and she even takes requests.

She did this disign in Mom, big sis and lil sis. I am going to bling out pj's for us!

She loves it and I had a hard time taking it off her so "it wouldn't be dirty when we see Minnie".

Things I "learnt"...
1. The dots wont turn pink
2. Applique is easy if you secure the applique to your top. Not by pinning.
3. Rick Rack will hide a somewhat imperfect seam.:rolleyes1
4. We need yellow, black, or red CROCs. and her Hair bows for this outfit need to be BIGger and contain black (a mickey head in the center?) Somehow there needs to be an accent of yellow? In the hair bow? A button? A bow on the minnie? ((edited to add- I DID put a little yellow bow on top of the applique to the left a little...cuuuute!)
5. I love this pattern.
6. I'm wayyyyy more confident

I let my daughter (who is three) pick out the fabric, and I thought it wouldn't really matter since the chance was small that it would end up looking like a skirt.... now I wish I'd picked some different fabric to showcase my incredible skill (haha not really) :)

I still plan to applique around the mickey head (i was thinking in green so you could see it, but I have no green thread)...

Oh and I think I sewed the entire skirt with embroidery thread (weight 41?) so it will probably unravel while she is wearing it... but I'm still so tootin' excited!

Its times like these that I wish my mom was still with us. She was so creative and could sew almost anything...

Anywoo... enough of my babbles and on to the unveiling! (lol) :rotfl:

LOL - I just bought that fabric today! I bought it at JoAnn - my receipt says it is #8609190. That may just be JoAnn's own skew # though - hope this helps!
