Slightly OT -
DD had a princess party over the weekend. We decorated the "gazebo" on our deck to look like a ballroom. (Of course I forgot to take good pictures of all the decorations!) Here's a few pictures from her 5th birthday party.

Waiting for the arrival of some "special" guests!

It was a fun day!

MY PRINCES IS 5!!!!

DD turned 5 yesterday!! I made her a sock monkey dress to open on her birthday. She actually squealed when she opened it!!! Here's a picture from this morning. She wanted to wear it today (with a pair of shoes she got at her birthday party)
 My BIG GIRL!!!
IMG_1735.jpg

She's ADORABLE - I have about 6 months till my first is 5 Im dreading it - it seems like such a "big age".... Out of the infant and toddler department and into the little girls stuff etc... it's SCARY!!!!

Travel agent just called me to let me know I saved $50 on my cruise... that means I can get FABRIC!!! :) (Don't I wish!)

She's so cute! Don't they grow up WAY too fast? :sad1:

I love the colors! Where did you find the sock money fabrics? (Sorry if you've already posted it)

I made a sock monkey dress for DD too. I bought my fabric at reprodepot.com.

I love the pink sock monkey fabric. It is great! Did you use a pattern or wing it? I love the straps.

I bought on :wizard: I bought a fat quater set and an extra yard (of the stripes). She has the red sock monkey fabric and a yummy yellow! I almost bought the yellow, but DD's favorite color is pink, so...
Search funky monkey N round.

The pattern is from ycmt. It's the stripwork jumper. (I modified the back)

For the staps, I cut elastic the length I wanted the straps. Cut the fabric almost double the length of the elastic. Made the straps and inserted the elastic (like a casing) and secured the ends. I like the straps that way too - it has a little "give" to them!

BTW - I loved your sock monkey outfit! I got my fabric the day before you posted your outfit! It gave me the motivation to get it done!!

everyone who is looking for the sock monkeys, it comes in several colorways: red, blue, mint green, yellow and pink. Since it is technically a quilting fabric, many quilt shops and online quilt fabric retailers have it in stock. I know that www.fatquartershop.com has it ... I believe that equilter.com has it and keepsakequilting.com among many others. So if you're looking for it, start looking at the online quilt shops :)

hope that helps some of you!

(I'm a quilter, so I've been running across this fabric a lot - it's adorable ...)

ABBYBETH - Where in the "mitten" are you from? (And YES, you need to hold up your hand to show us! LOL :) ) We have a few Boutiquers from the mitten state!

Thanks for the search, because all I could find was info stating that you could have unlimited smilies, 3 pics, and upto 50KB. All of your help is much appreciated, I wouldn't want to get banned from the DIS!!!:scared1: The funny thing is before I updated my sig I was WAYYYY over on my KB. Oh well..

Uhhhh, just please don't get rid of your Kenny photo ;) ....and post often! :rotfl:

I bought this set for DD on eBay:
piratetutu.jpg

After I got it, I realized it would be really easy to make (although I probably could never do it! :rotfl: ) I was told you could buy pre-cut strips of tulle. They would be twice as long as you want the finished tutu length to be, and then you just wrap them around a piece of elastic and loop the tulle through a hole you cut in it so its attached to the elastic. You would just repeat this until it was as full as you want it to be.
I hope that makes a little sense!

I was looking at that one (or one like it anyway)...so you think it could be made by just knotting the tulle around elastic? Would it be full enough?

I just went thru 100 pages of posts to get myself caught up. I really need to log on atleast every other day. My goodness my head is spinning!

Now I need to just get some of my new stuff posted....I've been a slacker on that.

I bought the one in the picture, and that's exactly how its done. It's very full. She said she used 100 yards of tulle! If each strip is about 2 feet long, I guess that's possible. I can take pictures of the waistband if you think it might help. I thought I had some on my computer, but I can't find them now. :confused3

That would be awesome! How long is it from waist to bottom of skirt?

The tutu itself is probably about 12" long. (DD is only 3, so its sort of small.) So I'm guessing if you take the length you want it and double that, then add maybe an inch or two for the knot/tie, that would work.

Hope this helps!

It's Cool!!!! 100 YARDS??? My Walmart charges about $1 per yard for Tulle.....:scared1: Looks easy to do!

It DOES look easy! When the auction said "100 yards", I think it's basically 100 yards in length, not width. So she got a bunch of 2 or 3" wide strips from each yard of tulle, but if you lined the strips up end to end, it would be 100 yards? :confused3 That's what I'm guessing b/c 100 yards sounds like a lot...but its very full!

hahaha, I'd post a picture of me pointing to my hand but that requires the use of at least one hand ... so needing a hand count of 3 and having 2, I'll just tell ya - I live in Grand Blanc, so right now I'm in the middle-ish. Parents live in Port Huron, so I'm from east-ish and I went to college on the west side

where are you?
